Fantastic player he is. Been scoring consistently and looked awesome against us earlier this year.

I don't think we need a new striker, but if we do let it be him.

He's scoring a lot of goals (16 in 26 games with 5 assists to his name too) for Standard Liege but with players from inferior leagues you'll never know how good they are but he could be worth the risk. At least he's not playing in the Eredivisie ;)

His scoring record is brilliant but I haven't seen much of him to make a fair assessment.

2006-2007 = R.S.C. Anderlecht (Appearances - 8/ Goals - 5)
2006-present = DR Congo National Team (Appearances -10/ Goals - 8)
2007- Present = Standard Liège (Appearances - 62/ Goals - 34)

34 in 62 for Liege?

Sounds like he could almost be as good as Mbo Mpenza.

Anyone know if Tomas Necid is as good as people say? I know he's young but is he good enough to come here as a back-up striker?

Mbokani is Belgium's Drogba. Obviously not as good but similar in his style of play.

I nearly choked when I saw the amount they paid! To be fair, he's been a good buy.

Apparently he hasn't scored yet for CSKA Moscow since he moved there in January from Slavia Prag [3 starts, 2 subs] but he has been linked with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Chelsea..

I liked Mbokani when I saw him against us but that's the only time I've seen him play, I was very impressed.

He was the guy with the blonde streak, yes?

Well he certainly looked the real deal, I refrained from talking too much about him as I'd only seen him play against us. What would his approximate cost be?

Going off how much they charged for Fellaini ... A lot.

34 in 62 for Liege doesn't impress me that much. But i haven't watched enough of him, so stats don't really mean anything in that case :P

To be fair, Drogba's highest season total before that final season for Marseille was 12.

This guy has been mentioned in todays gossip columns as being back on our transfer radar.

Full marks for Kev is Red, et al for scouting him with this thread way back in April 09.
Can anyone give us an update on how he has been performing since then?

Since he moved to AS Monaco, he scored 1 goal in 10 appearances, then moved to Wolfsburg and scored nothing in 7 games.
He then returned to Anderlecht and currently has 6 goals in 12 games.
He's a good finisher, but overrated IMO.
When I think Mbokani, Jovanovic jumps to mind, they were both to good for the Belgian divisions but then they moved abroad and failed, then they go back to Belgium and start performing again.
Decent but not good enough, and both have an attitude problem :)

Thanks Pat.

Basically "He's okay but LFC could do better"

I see it says you are casting spells. No wonder then that this man looks a good bet. If he is within price range I would go for him. However, price needs to have account of his age - going on 27.

Very similar to Andy Carroll, but Id rate Carroll much higher. If you think Carroll is a carthorse, Necid would be a yak. Good player though...hard to break through in the CSKA team with Love and Doumbia banging them in.

I'm from Belgium and watch him play every week. Exactly the same as Jovanovic, wich I have also always said we shouldn't go for, above the level in the belgium league but is not even close to the level of players we should be searching for. Overrated player who needs a lot of time on the ball to know what he is going to do. Not premier league material

:D

Haha!

Brilliant! :scarf

To be fair, I think we need to tap into Belland (ouch), as they're producing some great players at the moment.

Belgium will definitely be a dangerous team in the coming years. Holland always produce great technical players.
