View Full Version : Charlie Nicholas on Sky Sports about LFC!

Leo Suarez

Charlie made a point, which made sense! I thought his figure was a little high though..... anyway...

Charlie "Liverpool need as many as 10 new faces in, and 10 of those players out"

^ He's meaning the dead wood and said names like Koncescky, Poulsen etc.... were never good enough for LFC. I find Charlie as a good pundit and doesn't seem anti LFC, infact he wants us to be back fighting for the big prizes, as he said something like ....'Liverpool and big European nights, go hand in hand'.

Now 10 as a figure might be stretching it, but we could be looking at something like 7/8 out and 5/6 in. That's possible. Because 10 players in and 10 players out, is a 'major'# team overhall...!!

What's everyone's feedback, is this the summer for a 'major' hoofing out of deadwood and creating a new LFC, or jus a couple of crap players sold, and a few big name aquisitions in???????

By the way.... when Charlie says 10 out, he's not just talking about fringe players I think, am assuming he means some of the regulars i.e

Skrtel
Auerlio
N'Gog
Johnson (possibly.... because he hinted at new right back in)

There's 9 players who need shipping Cole, Aurelio, Maxi, Ngog, Poulsen, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Spearing, Skrtel.

That's true. As stupid as it sounds, I've still not sat and counted the names than need shipping out ..... so 9 off the top of your head, says Charlie wasn't far off the mark and 10 is a realistic number out!!

Poulsen

Aurelio
Spearing
Maxi
Skrtel
J.Cole
N'Gog
Darby

Poulson, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Degen, El Zhar and Darby out (N'Gog on loan)! We must keep players like Spearing, Cole, Maxi, Aurelio, etc. as squad players for the run in and if/when we are in FA and Carling Cup!

But I do agree that fresh faces need to be brought in and a few of our first XI should take their place on the bench in order to strengthen our whole squad! Massive overhaul is pointless, unrealistic and will only lead to bad things!!

Leo Suarez
19-3-11, 16:33
I point I don't get, why do people want Soto out? Every match he's played, he's been on the money and is a rough/tough defender we need and don't have. Sorry, but he's more physical than Carra and showed against Chelsea that even Drog couldn't get any change out of him!!

Only poor point was the pen against Braga, but then again .... every defender puts a foot wrong. I wouldn't sell Soto, we need an experience hard-nosed defender and he's that guy!! He didn't cost us much, and his wages aren't high either. When we clash next season with Everton, Stoke, Fulham and Blackburn and other physical teams, we'll need Soto!!!

Against the Scum, he came on and he never gave an inch to Berbaflop or Shrek!!!

But it seems from the numbers being counted and what Charlie has said, 10 is becoming a realistic figure. Sorry but Aurelio plays ..... how many games over 2/3 seasons??? He should be sold and a replacement for the bench be brought in, as that's where Aurelio is most times or in the treatment room more often!

Realistically we need 7 new faces in minimum. That's ....

1 Goalkeeper
1 Left back
1 Central Defender
1 Holding midfielder
2 Wingers
1 Striker

Your looking at for example names like ..... Lohris, Coentrao, Enrique, Lavezzi, Turan, Young, Milner, Benzema, Adam etc......

gingeZizou82
19-3-11, 16:45
1. Poulsen
2. Konchesky
3. El Zhar
4. Degen
5. Jovanovic
6. Aurelio
7. Darby
8. Aquilani
9. Skrtel
10. J.Cole

Easily ten that could be moved on but most won't give up the extortionate contracts they are on and the club will struggle to get rid. I fear it will be a gradual process (that could take 2/3 transfer windows) of replacing existing squad players with younger, more talented alternatives.

By the way, was and have been keeping an eye on our younger players and my God, we have some top draw players coming through to push for 1st team places!!! I can see K.Kenny getting rid of deadwood, and brining in as many as 6/7 new faces atleast, but also trying to blood in the youth. In the next few years you will start to see names like ....

Suso ... Coady ... Wisdom ... Sama .... Morgan ... Sterling ... Adorjan

become part of our squad and 1st team!! :scarf:scarf

7 in and 9 out IMO

In
One of:
1/ Marin/Young/Hazard
2/ Adam/Aquilani
3/ Jose Enrique/Coentrao
4/ Wickham/Long/Hooper
5/ Seb Larson/Marveaux
6/ M'Villa/Sissoko
7/ Kjaer/Cahill/Shawcross

Out
1/ Jovanovic
2/ Maxi or Cole
3/ Aurellio
4/ Aquilani
5/ Poulson
6/ Ngog
7 Degen
8/ Konchesky
9/ Soto

Possible First XI for next season:
--------------------Reina---------------------
Johnson------Carragher----Kjaer------Joes Enrique
--------------------M'Vila--------------------
-------------Gerrard-----Meireles--------------
Marin----------------------------------Suarez
--------------------Carrol---------------------

Second XI for next season
-------------------Jones-----------------
Kelly--------Skrtel--------Agger-----Insua
-------------------Lucas-----------------
------------Shelvey------Adam-----------
S.Larsson----------------------------J.Cole
-------------------Kuyt-------------------

Youth XI
------------------Gulacsi-----------------
Flanagan-----Ayala------Wilson---Robinson
-------------------Coady-----------------
--------------Spearing---Suso------------
Sterling---------------------------Pacheco
-----------------Wickham------------------

Can we afford it and pull of these deals is another thing but if we can we'll be challenging again and I wouldnt rule that side out of a Premier League next season.

Maxi should head the list of clear outs.
Joe Cole as well. For 90k a week he doesn't do enough.

Unfortunately Charlie is right and I presume when he says 10 players he means:

Konchesky
Spearing
Degan
Insua
Aurelio
Poulsen
Jovanovic
El Zhar
Ngog
Darby

And arguably Skrtel, Aqualini, Cole, Soto, Jones and Maxi should be added to that list as well. But I doubt that most of these will go though. It will take a few years to shift the deadwood and sign fresh young talent, while trying to avoid what Roy etc did by replacing deadwood with even more deadwood.

If I was to brutally honest...

Poulsen - proper waste of money
Konch - proper waste of money
Auerilo - super unreliable
Spearing - just not good enough
Kuyt - he's a good utility player, maybe I am been harsh
Skrtel - dodgy
Agger - his injuries are putting him into the 'Ledly King' category
Ngog - his average, nothing more nothing less
Cole - flopped badly, does anyone know including Joe which position he plays in?
Jova - not rated by the staff.

We need a huge overhaul, Charlie is right on that one.

RyanCalum76
20-3-11, 11:53
Charlie is spot on and this deadwood needs to go in the summer whether they're sold or shipped out on loan!Whether we can get 10 players is in is a bit unrealistic but i understand what he is saying as we do need a massive influx of quality/young/hungry players.

We have signed 2 quality players in Jan already and i do feel we definitely need 4/5 top notch players to come in the summer. From then on we can bleed in the talented young lads we have aswell as maybe 1/2 signings in future windows. The thing is we need to get these signings right or else i fear the worst for us.Too long now we have brought in mediocre players who are just not up to standard.Quality over quantity from now on..............

These for me should be shipped out!!

10 is a bit high. Possibly 5 or 6. Not because there are only 6 players that need to leave, but because it would cause too much disruption to get rid of half the playing squad.

We'd need to do it over time. We can't just throw 10 squad players out of the team in one window. That would cause so much disruption amongst the squad.

I personally am expecting 4-6 players out in the summer. then possibly a further 2-3 in the January.

I agree with this. Wholesale changes don't make any sense unless you have a bottomless pit of money and you're trying to build a team of galacticos - and even then it rarely works.

Plus people are saying get rid of the Greek, and Skrtl and the likes, which just makes no sense.
Also Spearing is much underated and will be a regular in our title-winning side in my view.

Another stupid post. You call our players "deadwood"? If for whatever reason you dislike them, i still think you should be sensible enough in your choice of adjectives. A lot of fans are still deluding themselves into believing the "yanks" have money to throw around. Come summer, you all will be disappointed. Sold two players for 57million and bought two players for 58million,should that be a thing of pride? Under Rafa we operated this way and a lot of dumb heads read the press and believed all the nonsense about "Rafa wasting millions" when in fact, he never had the cash. COME ON people ...

This is all true but we all know it simply will not happen .... most of the 'deadwood' listed here will still be playing for us next year.

Maybe 2-3 will move on ... but I cannot see us signing any more than 3 new players in the summer. We need quality not quantity and selling 10 players to buy 10 players would just be creating all new problems.

You're about right, I think; but not exactly so! I'm not sure about your inclusion of Aquilani - we haven't really seen him play. Chopping him might be premature. With some sadness I'd agree with J Cole being on your 'hit list'. I did have high hopes for him when he arrived; but he simply isn't the J Cole of old, unfortunately.

10 is a big number, no doubt about it; so it's unlikely that it will all happen in one fell swoop. However, the main point is that there is a recognition within the Club that something needs to be done to improve the Squad to revive LFC's fortunes. That is the main thing!!

Are you really as dumb as you look?

The players mentioned in the list are either loaned out at average clubs or are quite simply on the fringes of the first team squad picking up huge wages and are at a later stage of their career on long contracts.

Also I neve said anything about Rafa wasting money and a lot of these poor signings came from Hodgsons one transfer window.

Fantastic, we can have a squad of 11 good players and no one as back up. Accept it, Kuyt, Lucas, Kyrgiakos can add a bit of depth when world class players come in. We may need them. Keep them! In fact, any more performances like the one today by Spearing and he can have a chance at it too. Probably does need to be moved on in the summer, but lets not **** the guy off.

Also I can't take anything Charlie Nicolas say's seriously after finding that he's friends with the guys who are advising the people at Blackburn. I'm not Big Sam fan but he's the sort of manager Blackburn need, I remember when they were saying how crazy it was he was sacked and he defended it!
