And the UEFA won't allow a team playing in the second division to play a European Competition, so forget about it. Once you get relegated, you say by by to EL. No, a team in second division CAN'T play in a European Competition, and it's the winner of the FA Cup not the Mickey Mouse Cup who gets the SEVENTH european spot ...

Three places for the PL in the EL.
One for the LC winners.
One for the FA cup winners or the runners up if the winners have qualified for the CL or EL already.
One for 5th place in the PL.
6th,7th only get a place if either the LC is won by a team who gets into the CL or the FA cup final is between two teams who have qualified for the CL or the EL via the LC or 5th place.
Liverpool only hope is the fair play place or somehow get 5th.

I think so, because correct me if I'm wrong, but a team with the best fair play qualified for the Europa last season, and that team was Burnley, but because they were relegated, we got their Europa League spot instead.

This. Portsmouth were in administration when they were relegated, which is why they couldn't play in the UEFA cup.
Birmingham are in the UEFA cup next season, and unless we get 5th we're not.
With the teams that are left, Stoke or Bolton will be in the UEFA cup because both Manchester teams look good for the champions league.
Also could we please have a sticky or something explaining the rule as this question has been cropping up an awful lot recently.

i really am getting tired of idiots on here asking the same stupid questions looking for a way for us to sneak into europe.
we do not deserve to play in europe if we are outside the top 5
at the moment im all for 4th or 6th. never mind qualifying for EL. in fact if we finish 5th can we just give the EL spot to 6th???

If birmingham get relegated they can still play in europe, assuming they registered at the start of the season. Which any prem team should do. we got it last year as portsmouth were not registered to play in europe.

From what I remember, I read something that if they got relegated, they may not survive financially and that would affect their chances of entering Europe as they cannot prove to UEFA they can last another season.
That said, I'm hoping they get relegated. :P
