View Full Version : People talk of Carrolls fee of £35m
The way I see it we swapped him and Suarez for Torres. And Suarez is as good as Torres so we're quids in. We could have sold Torres for £1 billion and bought Carroll for £980 million and Suarez for £20m and we'd still be in the same situation. He's under no pressure in my eyes!
Well the way I look at it is: We signed one of the brightest young strikers in Britain, we already is a very good player, and will bring a whole new dimension the team.
Also, Man U bought Berbatov for £30million, at a considerably older age, and he didn't even make it on the bench in the CL Final.

Not enough people realize that the deal was always going to be selling Torres for 15mill more than what we paid for Carroll, so our profit from the deal was going to be the same regardless.
Suarez > Torres.
Emile Heskey > Torres.
Torres = Owen.

fantastic
On what basis?
On what basis is Carroll not Kennys signing?
On what basis as Carroll not Kennys signing?
On the same basis , that Kenny's a wise man
On what basis?
12 league goals by January. Capped for England. 22 years old.

So still no proof then.
You do know the differnce between opinions and facts yeah?
We payed for him and signed him on a long term deal. No point jumping on him saying it was a bad signing already. We payed for his potential and he has plenty of years to prove that he was worth the outlay
VishRed, you wouldn't be starting yet another Carroll crusade would you?

Sold:
Fernando Torres - £50million
Ryan Babel - £6million
Bought
Luis Suarez - £22.8million
Andy Carroll - £35million
So, a total loss of £2million. For £2million (!) we got a young, quick, skillful, goal scoring machine (Suarez) and an even younger powerhouse with an excellent header and a great left-foot strike (Carroll).
We got rid of an out of form striker who just didn't try (Torres) and an out-of-favour winger who barely even played (Babel). This for £56million.
Great business so stop moaning.

without a doubt we came off the better. I don't see why some people are so against Carrol. Give the lad a chance!!

trade torres for carroll and suarez or trade torres for Aguero and suarez? the choice is obvious
we overspent for carroll is a fact and that same amount of money could get us already world class strikers like Aguero and benzema, that fact does not change no matter how much you sugar coat it

so if we sold torres for 100m we would buy carroll for 85m? the same amount that was higher than ronaldo to real madrid?
the 15m deal thing was stupid no matter how you look at it, we should have targeted better players with more money and not sticking with a stupid policy and ended up overpaying tremendously for an untested player who had only played half a season in top flight

Torres had well and truly gone off the boil and babel had more chances than graeme hick playing cricket for england !:scarf
When you break it down like that it looks a good deal but we could have had Aguero and Suarez up front for another 10m.
Having said that we have to give Carrol a chance and he's totally different type of striker and you always pay a premium for that type of player.

Thank you.
For £35m, I expect a lot more than Andy Carroll. Look at Real Madrid. They signed Khedria(£13m), Ozil(£13m), and Sahin(£9m) for a total of £35m. I wonder who did the better business.....
Fact is, as a club, we're awful in the transfer market. Buy high and sell low must be our club's motto.
Was meireles not a steal at 11m?
Lucas at 6m?
Agger and skrtel at similar prices?
We aren't that bad in the market, granted some shockers aswell
Carrolls fee was only so high cause of the Torres fee, and no other top players were available like aguero and benzema etc in January. we should consider ourselves lucky that Suarez wants to be here and that we have Carroll aswell, he scored 13 league goals off the top of my head I think. That's a great return for a 22 year old with 3 months out aswell, so was a better option than taking risks on other players that haven't been proven in the prem. Annoys the hell out of me when people slate carroll, not his fault we paid £35m for him.

Although Carroll didn't fire on all cylinders for us in 2011, he was out injured for 3 or 4 months so he was obviously going to be rusty.
After a full summer's rest, he will be scoring goals for fun in 2011/12 and with Suarez up front with him, he'll score a hell of a lot of goals. Suarez to get 15 league goals and Carroll to get 18 next season me thinks. Plus a few in the cups.
On what basis?
His first season of football in the premier league (the year Newcastle went down) he came on the scene and was touted as a future star.
He was a key part of their promotion back to the premier league.
The first half of the season he was a key figure in some great wins for the Toon and caused defenders a lot of bother.
He is a bright prospect and given the right coaching and development there is no reason why he cant be a great player one day.
He has been injured for a large part of the season and that happens, but dont judge him until he's been given time to settle in and get a run of games under his belt.
Honestly who cares, i mean teams like Barca and Real spend money like this regularly and noone bats and eyelid. Kaka 60m? Ibra 40m plus Eto'o? Carrolls only 22 hes got bags of ability to be one of the most dangerous strikers in the world, hes got one of the strongest headers and left foot in the prem, once he settles in next year and we get him some service from wide areas we will be singing dont worry.
Gotta remember people want to shoot us down over Carroll, because they suddenly worried that Liverpool are going out to spend. They dont want us up their challenging again, and trust me next year or year after we will.

This...
Everyone who are slating the price tag of Carroll, namely VishRed, need to get their act together and support the club, it's business and it's players or get lost. It's pretty simple.

Said the same about Hodgson,Konchesky and Diouf with the same passion?

Chelsea and Shevshenko [Spelling] spring to mind....:FP:
I've always been one to say I don't care about price tags, it's not my money.
We shouldn't be talking about whether the fee is too much, lets face it if he scores the winning goal against manure to win the premipership for us we'll all say he was worth the money.
The only thing we should talk about is their attributes and what they bring to the team, I couldn't care less what players cost.
Liverpool supporters in general have to forget about the fee. It's the only way that Carrol would get our full support.
It's well documented that we vastly over paid for him, it was a panic buy and I have no doubt that the owners will be questioning what they have done. But let's not continuously associate Carrol with his price tag. We all know he's not worth that much. Lets judge him on what we saw at Newcastle, and what we know he is capable of and what he can be capable of.
Said the same about Hodgson,Konchesky and Diouf with the same passion?
Yes, I did actually... After what I saw with Diouf I immediately changed my mind and wanted rid. Konchesky played well for Fulham in 09/10 and I supported him as he's a Liverpool player, but too many mistakes lead me to believe that he can't handle the pressure of a big club, therefore, selling would be the best option.
Hodgson I genuinely wanted him to succeed as he is a good manager, but again the same as Konchesky, couldn't handle the pressures, therefore, had to go.
The difference being in all of this is that Carroll has been injured for the majority of the second half of the season, he's scored 2 goals for Liverpool, in something like 8 appearances? This is twice as good as Torres has done for Chelsea, therefore, justifying the price tag if you're comparing the value of the two players.
Carroll will be judged after next season, you can't judge a player on 8 appearances for the club, as it's unfair and downright disgracful... If he doesn't perform to the level expected after a full pre-season and league campaign then he'll no doubt be shipped out at a loss of around £15m-£20m.
