 that surprises me like! get rid i say wot a waste no wonder he isnt in a hurry to leave! he's earning 120k a wk for getting splinters in his a**e!
i wish i was earning 120k a wk for watching Liverpool playing
best job in the world
No way that can be true...
If so, that actually makes me sick.
That must incorporate a signing-on fee. EDIT: Yes, it does, over the first year. Still.
:BH:
i read this the other day. Surely he is not on that?
Where is this information from?
Why would Liverpool put a player, a virtual unknown, on a similar wage to Stevie.
Masch was only on £25k a week. So who would have put that proposal forward. It just seems way off the mark to me.
I know people will say "there was no transfer fee" etc etc. But to say we signed him on those wages just seems a bit far fetched to me.
That's criminal. It's going to be real hard offloading him because he would want the same sort of pay else way.. And no one is going to give him that.
That £120k is not all wages, it does include his signing on fee.
"although the latter's astonishing salary includes a signing-on fee payable over the first 12 months of his contract."
That is criminal though
Its times like this when I really hate what has become of football

yeah i did notice that mate. even so, its unthinkable that a club that was financially crippled at the time would pay that to a very average footballer. i tend to trust the guardian tho. its hardly the sun or some online nonsense. we're probably going to have to continue paying a percentage of it just to get shot of him.

Masch was on somewhere in the £125k a week world. Not sure where you get your information, but Masch made good money while at Liverpool.

Ok I was a little out. But he was never on £125k. Only Torres and Gerrard have ever been over £100K a week.
Masch was on around £45K a week.

Hopefully we can shift him on in the summer. Thats if he can agree personal terms with a new club, he may not be prepared to take a big pay cut, even if it does mean regular, first team football.

Un*******believable. This makes me sick to the stomach.
So if he's getting £120,000pw and Cole's on £90,000pw, then we're paying £210,000pw for two spectators? OMG, I can't take this kinda ****.
Get e'm off our payroll, asap, cause they don't even deserve the space on the bench or one ******* penny.

John Henry must have been shocked to the absolute core when he digested exactly how this club has been run in recent years.
Idiots, idiots idiots. I feel for Rafa more than ever.
I have to say this.
DO YOU REMEMBER, my topic after the end of the season about the players and their embarassing contribution to the team this season, where I was saying that they players need to change mentality and that Kenny has got to get rid of them and make the rest understand they play for a team that challlenges for trophies etc..?
You were all insulting me for not getting right behind to the team
do you understand what I'm saying now?
Spurs have a wage bill of 60m, Arsenal's around 100m and Liverpool has 120m!
Yet for two consecutive season we finished behind both of them. Last season we finished behind Villa two which has even lower wage bill.
Two years of OVERPAYMENTS and under-delivery and yet players are laughing and smilling after defeats against Villa and Spurs.
No lads, you need to work your socks off if you want to be part of team with 120m wage bill and you need to deliver as one team of 120m wage bill.
John Henry must have been shocked to the absolute core when he digested exactly how this club has been run in recent years.

No way will another club be ready to pay that much salary to Jova. Unless he wants to move in order to play regularly, we are stuck with him.

No financial sense, no footballing sense, no common sense.
Madness.
I'm sure we will find a buyer for him, if we can't then simply just offload him because from that wage you can pay for 2 young quality players.
even if it does include a signing on fee, the sum is absolutley laughable.
£6.25 million a year for Jovanovic!!!! I just don't believe it at all. I would say he is on £50 - 60K a week tops.

His basic must be too low, with the extras/sign-on taking it up to £120k.
I think we can shift Jova out during this summer window as he genuinely wants to play for the Serbian national team..but Cole on the other hand :FP:
No financial sense, no footballing sense, no common sense.

Thing is with a 120m wage bill Liverpool could easily afford players like Aguero. Easily.
Instead we've got players that don't play. I don't think it's the players fault, I think the club was run like a big fraud fromt the previous regime.
Nothing made sense in any way. It didn't make sense to pay fire Rafa and pay him 8m to offload him and then go and spend another 8m to get Roy.
It didn't make any sense to charge the club 50m for digging a hole on the ground for supposedly preparatry work for a new stadium plan that never made a financial sense as a whole and would never have been built.
I'm sure we will find a buyer for him, if we can't then simply just offload him because from that wage you can pay for 2 young quality players.
You can't offload players without paying out their entire contract, or at least an expensive compensation compromise to break their contract.

with the signing on fee being paid as part of his wages over the first season won`t his wages drop significantly now that first season is over & as such it may not be as difficult to move him on, also this would explain why he reportedly turned down a move in january when some german team i think where reportedly offering around 6/7million for him
AnfieldSensation
3-6-11, 11:32
I really doubt an unproven player in Jovanovic was on £120k a week. Given that Gerrard and Torres were on roughly the same amount at the time. He'd probably have been on £70k a week which is still horrific for a player who only started 5 times. We're not that bad, we're not like West Ham or Portsmouth who were paying Utaka £80k a week and Boa Morte £80k a week.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter at all what his contract say.
See the big picture. You've got a team that has a wage bill of 120m!
then it finishes two consecutive years bellow a team with 60m(Spurs) wage bill.
Something is really wrong.
His basic must be too low, with the extras/sign-on taking it up to £120k.
With that in mind. Ji Sung Park is bottom of the list on £65K a week. So Say Jovanovic is on £60k a week basic with £60K a week bonus/signing on fee making up the rest.
Seen as the bonus payment is paid over a 12 month period, that would suggest that his signing on fee was nearly £3.5M!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is absolute rubbish and why I do not believe a word of this report that he is on that wage.
Even Ronaldo didn't get anywhere near that as a signing on fee for Real Madrid so why the hell would we have signed up to that!?? It just doesn't smell right to me.

That's not good then really. Hopefully somebody will want to buy him. Anyway it just shows how bad our transfer policy was before the Kenny-Comolli era, that the highest paid players are that poor that we can't even offload them to another club.

Yup, could only buy one second home, third home, fourth home etc every year.
Surely we didn't sign someone like Jonah-ovic on £125k?!?!? He'd have to have proven a Suarez quality signing to justify that kind of wage. Saying that we went with Cole as well, again you expect way above average return for way above average wages.
Think I'd rather promote our own local lads than bosmanians on silly wages. No doubt in most minds I'm sure who has done a better job for us in 10/11 between the likes of Kelly, Flanagan and Robinson, and Jonah-ovic and Cole. I bet those kids combined wages aren't close to the other two's individual wages.
I'd play for Liverpool for FREE!!!!!

I doubt hes on that much, reports on players wages are notoriously innacurate.
I imagine 120 a week is the very top end of our wage scale, the type of money gerrard and torres would of been on, theres no way we are paying jova the same as gerrard.
*He didn't get a signing on fee*
His signing on fee is added to his contract pw so say he got £8m for signing on ( don't know how much he got but Joe cole rumoured to have got £9m) that's and extra 40k per week onto of his wages over the term of his contract. Still means his basic wages are around the 90k mark :FP:
I don't think Rafa handled contract negotiations tbf.
He did. It was completely his decision.
And then they say free transfers are free transfers, there is always a sign on fee involved, so we actually dont know what his wages are or what the sign on fee was.
I degens sign on fee was 2 mil, that is 160000 a month first year just on the fee, and then his wages over that? (it was probably not payed out over a year).
And then they say Bosman is a hero

What hicks had to say on the subject after Rafa signed his last contract.
"I sat down with Rafa a couple of months ago and he made it very clear that he knows a manager can't have control over a transfer budget," the Texan said. "He has had his frustrations over the last five years and those are well chronicled. But he will make the recommendations about which players we sign and the new CEO, the owners and the board will make the final financial commitment. That's the way it needs to be and will be in English football. We really haven't had to make promises to Rafa. He knows we want to win.
Knew it was going to be a high wage but **** me!

I don't know if many have noticed, but it states that 120k includes his signing on fee over 12 months. Assuming he's on 60k per week, his signing on fee works out to about 3,000,000. He was an international striker, who was doing well in Belgium.
3,000,000 seems like a fair price (without the use of hindsight).

I've already posted that mate. Whats an average signing on fee for a player these days? How is it worked out etc? Does anyone know?
Absurd figures are being thrown at players. Torres @ 10million per year???? What did he score for that? Messi is at around 200k per goal, but he gives a lot to the the team. Still crazy crazy figures.

120k a week - yeah, but remember his hat-trick at Old Trafford? The way he roasted right-back after right-back, week in, week out? Joint-top scorer in the Premier league which secured us a Champions league place?
Oh, and don't forget his eleven goals which helped us win the Europa league, including the winner against Porto in Dublin - what a night that was; what a player that Jovanovic is ... he's deffo worth his £120,000 a week wages.
But the reality was - he played about two and a half games, run round like a **********-up Sunday league player, and must have segs on his arse with all the sitting around he's done.
Our worst ever team which usually comprises many early-mid 90s players such as Jimmy Carter, Mark Walters, Paul Stewart, Sean Dundee, to name but a few, we all know the likes, well this Jovanovic can certainly take his place amongst those who would be an embarrassement in an Everton shirt, let alone a Liverpool one!!!!!
It's already been said that him and Joe Cole are on a combined £200k a week ... it's enough to make the baby Jesus cry.
Offload these wasters and some others so we can have a squad to challenge for the league next season.
