A long time ago I played three brilliant footy arcade games, I only know the name of one which was Soccerbrawl on the Neo Geo. If anyone can suggest what the others are I'd appreciate it, and will rep if I haven't already repped you/too much.
1. Would have played this between 1991 and 1993 at a local leisure centre, around the same time as Soccerbrawl, super side kicks, mortal kombat and other arcade games were around. This one was an odd little game, but really enjoyable. It contained a selection of sides that were quite possibly the 1990 World Cup sides (mostly if not entirely) I can't remember too much about the gameplay other than you could have two "bursts of speed" which lasted 30 seconds and meant you could dribble very fast and often one goal could win it. There was also a hidden team I always think of as ninjas, they played in black and came after the final game.
2. Played this a lot around 1992-1993, once you worked out how to score easily it was a doddle. It could be hat trick hero but I'm not sure. You pick one of eight teams, bizarrely this was a rare game where I think playing as England was a good choice! What makes me think it might be hat trick hero is you choose a player to be, as far as I remember they span round a football in the middle of the screen. In terms of gameplay there was a neat trick, you get to the by-line then run upwards until you are right on the line ,due to the perspective of the pitch making that line diagonal, and then cross which sets up your team-mate for an easy goal.

There were a few football and 'soccer' games in there. I know it's not much of a help, but it was all I could find. I do remember playing a game like the 2nd one you said, but for the life of me I can't think of it.
My favourite arcade machine of all time is the sega r360 playing G-Loc.
You sit in a gyroscope that spins 360 degrees as you control the fighter jet, was awesome!
Used to play it in Blackpool in the big arcade on the front towards the pleasure beach about 15/16 years ago.
I know it's not a footy game, but brough back memories.
Favourite footy game was sensible, pre FIFA days

This is what your thinking of (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1003&bih=592&q=tecmo+world+cup+90&oq=tecmo+world+cup+90&aq=f&aqi=g4g-v6&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=750l3515l0l3750l18l16l0l2l2l0l344l2828l0.6. 4.3l13)
Still my fave of all time this, Loved the game!! There was a Euro one too with Barca, Milan etc
If you look hard enough you can actually find an emulator for it. When I jailbroke my iphone I had it on there with Mortal Kombat and street fighter 2

Can't rep you LGLM at the moment, must have done so yesterday.
I think I may have found a way of finding out - youtube!

That looks like the one with the by-line flaw. I left out Tecmo World Cup that I played at a local ice rink around 1989, that was fun but unlike the three games I did list you got relative value for money. In searching I came across 'Hit The Ice' which was great fun, but a good example of poor value for money. Never did get on with super side kicks, even if that was the one I played at the pub across from the uni I went to. The uni had Soccerbrawl in the SU.

Think the 2nd one is "Football Champ", the more I think about it the name seems to ring bells as well as all the screenshots.

I sent an e-mail off to Konami about the mystery one. I think there was a cool penalty shoot-out as well, from memory it was quite hard to score goals as there wasn't much time.
This one looks quite cool

And this one could even be the 1st one "Goal Goal Goal", may sound funny but the country flags are ringing bells - Greece, Morocco, Uruguay, Cameroon, Saudi Arabia etc (see 51 secs in) I want to say the team attributes ring bells, I can't be as certain in my own mind.

Penalties vaguely ring bells as well, think this could be a winner! Either that or it's another game I loved in the past...................

I remember playing EA's Fifa Soccer 95
Oh Scotland and your amusing player 'P. Ness'
Oh how we laughed....
:D
Me and a mate were still adicted to fifa 98 a few years on when Anelka was with us (me a poor student and him a young father buying a house hence not updating). Because it was my mates house he had to be Liverpool and to try and keep it fair, I went as Arsenal instead of Barca.
9/10 of my goals were from Anelka used to wind him up no end because he couldn't have him in the Liverpool squad on 2 player...ah simpler times:rolleyes:

Managed to finally get a MAME emulator to work, spent a fair bit of time playing Soccerbrawl. Have a tough time with the keys mind, one of the times I would prefer the joystick on the real things.
I really would love a standing arcade machine with a mix of games across manufacturers. Goal Goal Goal isn't the game I was thinking of, Football Champ most probably is the other game I was thinking of but doesn't seem the same in emulation. Never did quite get to grips with Tecmo 90 World Cup, the keys being like the arrows for directions and caps lock, ctrl, alt and space for the other buttons is hard work. ASFG would have made more sense. Problem is exacerbated by them being so far apart.
No joy from e-mailing Konami, just got an e-mail back in German saying they only offer customer service to people of that nationality (at the moment) - not that I understood the German, it said the last bit in English at the end of the e-mail.
