to the 96 that passed away,
at hilsborough on that fateful day,
now looking down with smiles so proud,
you sing with us as we sing aloud,
you help us,guide us,see us through,
we know istanbul, was down to you,
and though the future is unknown,
    one things for sure......
    YOU"LL NEVER WALK ALONE".........

I'm embarrassed for the OP - doing all this to gain kudos.
I'm not as harsh as yourself so I tried to out him with a touch of deplomacy.

maybe this could be merged into a poetry thread because there are some nice ones in the hillsborough forum which wont get read by the majority of posters

Anfield's built with fans, not just grass and bricks
And for 21 years, it's been missing ninety six
Who'll never queue in pouring rain
to watch the reds in joy or pain.

'Did you actually know them?' I hear you cry
'not a single one' is my reply.
Not one of them was friend or kin to me
Yet every last one was my family.

Each father, each son, each sister, each wife
    Not a statistic, a person's life.
"it's time to move on" you say in my ears
But nothing has changed in twenty one years.

The justice we seek is that all should be jailed
Whose protection & service clearly both failed.
Why should they walk freely, after what they have done?
And continue to read the propoganda-filled s*n

You might prefer standing to sing and to chant
But 96 died so the law says you can't.
Each seat in the Emirates, the Bridge, White Hart Lane-
A legacy to stop Hillsborough happening again.

    A Liverpool fan won't abandon a red-
Neither those living, or the too many dead.
"Red til i die" is not really true
Coz if you could see into heaven, you would see reds there too.

Now out of harms way, and free from all pain
We remember each year til we all meet again.
Right now they're in heaven, and having some fun
Taking turns to play Shankly- one on one.

Absolutely no problem with Hillsborough related threads in the Football Section but I thought this one from last year belongs here.

    I wrote this this morning

22 long years ago on a very sunny April day
We sent off our Red Army to watch our hero's play

We had reached the semi-final of the FA Cup
We were to go to Hilsbourgh...but hang on a mintute..Eh up!!!!!

Last year when we were there it didn't seem the safest ground
No!! said the ones in charge..No probs..it's sound as a pound

So off went our lands by any way or means
With sarnies in their plassy bags and faces all a beam

Back home in the Pool people were rushing here and there
Shopping to be done ..but watch it kids Dad'll want his lucky chair

As the morning went on and early afternoon arrived
Everyone started gathering to watch The Pride of Meseyside

In houses and pubs it really didn't matter where
As long as our Red Men win and send Forrest home in despair

But things on the 62 had already started going wrong
Roadworks causing problems and a traffic jam too long

While at the ground the crowds had already started to gather
and more were coming..'hang on' lad so we don't loose each other

It was now about 10 minutes to three and thousands were still outside
Police and officials now getting anxious it was impossible to hide

Calls were made to the control room to the men in charge
What do we do Mr.Dukenfield a serious problem is at large

Back at home everyone was now sat around the telly
You'll Never Walk Alone rang out and those butterflies in ya belly

And then it came Mr.Duckenfields decision
'Open the gates' am sure everyone's in position

So the gates were opened but he was so so wrong
No one was there to redirect the throng

At the same time at home an uneasy gut feeling began
Why's Brucie jumping and shouting at that policeman.

The events that followed are too hard to say
All that matters is that we lost 96 souls that fateful day

So stand up at last Duckenfield and the rest and be men just for once
Admit your lies..the cover up and your incomepetance

For our 96 Angels may you rest in peace and for their families we will carry on fighting beside you until one day justice is done

    Y.N.W.A.

I wrote this one earlier. Older brother promised to be taken to the match on that day but our Da was late coming back on leave.

    That Saturday

You know he said I could go
    You know he said so

He's not back yet Ma replied
Rules is rules, said she with a sigh

Silence struck the house after that door
    slammed shut
The boy stormed off to push his luck

Chores took over on the day
The youngsters stayed out to play
About 15 minutes before kick off

All seats but two were taken in the house
Yet there was silence as the time came closer

A thousand times, like always, she looked towards the door
But no steps were heard. Where was the father?
    Where was the son?

And look the game has begun!
    A few minutes of watching
    Then the horror, the cries

Dear Lord what can we do?
    Turn off those visions
    Leave the house

    Make the youngsters play
    Dusk came with darkness
    Silence still around

What has happened at the grounds?
    Whispers walked along the street
Where's your lad was on many a lip

Many a lad at Shieffield to stay
Many a lad never said Goodbye that day

Darkness of night, shadows of fright
Sleep not coming Sleep not wanted
Sitting at a table with two seats bare
Where is the father where is the son

Knocks at the door, Huddles of whispers
A thousand times again she looks towards the door

Sleep is coming, a footstep is heard
The father, the son stand in the door
Silence says all and she says
    get yourselves to bed

No bed, time to look, time to say
    Thanks Dad for today
    Thanks not coming home
    But going to Shieffield

    A promise to keep
    Rules is rules
No being alone where ever you walk
a man who knew war choose not
to ignore that worry of crowds

A son came home. We were blessed
Now offer a prayer for the 96 dear
    Justice for them
Let that make up for their fear

Check the tickets in my wallet
Then swig a cup of tea
    7.30 in the morning
    One game from Wembley

Out the door and on the street
    Off to meet the boys
To sing the songs we love to sing
And fill the ground with noise

The coach pulls up and we all pile on
    Belly full of butterflies
Then off to sheffield we all go
    The FA cup our prize

9.00am and the songs have started
    I talk about the game
To a young lad thats sat next to me
    I didn't catch his name

    The journeys taking hours
And we cross the pennine hills
But my mind drifts off to hillsborough
As I dream of beardsleys skills

    "My favourite players Aldo"
Says the boy sat next to me
    His eyes full of excitement
And his words are filled with glee

"I'm meeting me mate when I get to the ground"
    "He's travelling up by train"
"I'll see you back here on the coach"
    "When we've beaten forest again"

The coach pulled up and off he went
    Going to meet his friend
I check my ticket once again
    THE LEPPINGS LANE END

Its getting near to kick off
And I'm getting close to the ground
But nobody seems to be moving
I'm stuck tight in this crowd

    I'm just starting to panic
And a bizzie opens the gate
A red tide moves down the tunnel
    Moving closer to thier fate

    I remember clearly that tunnel
And the light shone at the end
And as I think back to that fatefull day
    I still cant comprehend

That the coppers called us vandals
    And drunken loutish liars
And the media fed us spite and hate
    When compassion was required

But back to that day and the things I saw
    Unfold before my eyes
The sight of grown men screaming
And the air was full of cries

But I was one of the lucky ones
    Because I came home alive
I watched heroes in scarves on the pitch
    Trying helplessly to revive-
Their friends their family and strangers
Who'd all come to watch a game
But their lives were crushed that fatefull day
On a terrace called Leppings Lane

    The memories still haunt me
Every time I go to sleep
But theres one memory that gets me
    And always makes me weep

Back on the coach with my head on the glass
I remember my heart it skipped a beat
When I turned to the young lad next to me
    And noticed his empty seat

There were 96 empty seats that day
    96 friends that we lost
And while Kelvin counted the pennies
    The families counted the loss

So next time you're at Anfield
    Visit the eternal flame
    Feel the stone cold marble
    And touch a persons name

And while you say a silent prayer
And your dreams are tossed and blown
    Remember those 96 empty seats
    That must never walk alone

    Justice for the 96

    You'll never walk alone

Very very moving, makes you cry. I was going to add to these poems but I don't think I could ever convey anything as powerful and emotional as these. I just hope and pray that justice will be done one day - JFT96
