to all new members, existing members & rival fans.

We're happy to see supporters of other clubs but please remember that you are guests on a Liverpool forum and behave accordingly. If you'd like to post in this thread you'll find members that are happy to engage in some banter, please keep it within the forum guidelines, ie no abuse.

    A note existing members

You will find that some threads may be moved or merged in order to keep a good range of discussion available for all users.

The easiest way to avoid your thread being moved in this way is by using the search function, or simply check the FD homepage, to see if there is a similar topic of disussion available.

Please do not take it personally if you thread is moved or merged with another, it is only intended to benefit all users and the standard of discussions on this forum.

Baring in mind that there is a limited time to post in FD, everyone is trying to cram in what they have to say in the space of only a few hours.

More experienced posters will appreciate that discussion can become a bit repetative and frustrating, a perfectly decent thread may go un-noticed because there is another 15 threads talking about signing the same player.

    Moderation and 'banter' between posters

It is prefered that you moderate yourself, I'm sure I speak for all Community Mods when I say we would rather spend our time joining in with discussions.

Being abusive towards ANY poster, or using foul language is not allowed in any case, it may result in warnings, infractions and even bans.

We are all made aware of the guidlines of the form before entering the boards, following these guidlines, it will make it easier for moderators to distinguish between genuine posters and WUM's and Trolls that may ruin the enjoyment for members, who more than are likely, just want to talk about football.

Of course banter is absoloutley fine, us liverpool fans are noted for our sense of humour, so it is expected to see much of this during a debate.
However, keep the banter friendly, there are people here from all walks of life and you should appreciated that not all of us share the same sense of humour.

Banter that overtakes a thread and is not in any way related to the topic of discussion, is both unfair to members who have made the thread and any other posters who simply want to contribute their opinion.

If you do not intend to take part in the debate, why not visit General chat or Off topic where you can banter until your hearts content (within moderation of course).

Also any issues with the moderation of the forum, it would be appreciated if you post in this thread or in website feeback, any genuine cases will be adressed as soon as possible.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

This thread is intended for new members to introduce themsleves, general moderating issues....... if your a rival fan don't be afraid to share your opinions, I'm sure one of our fans will be happy to join in on the debate

    New opening hours

    New Forum opening hours

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We're committed to trying to improve the service all our fans receive. We're happy to announce improved opening hours effective immediately. These are:

e-Season forums are now open daily from 06:00am to 11:59pm

Free to use forums for registered users are now open on non matchdays from 1pm to 8pm

Free to use matchday times remain the same for now, but we are aiming to improve those as well. That won't happen however until we've completed some technical improvements that should ensure a quicker forum response time at peak demand.

We hope that these new hours will make a big difference and not just to imsomniacs and early risers We know a lot of our fans overseas have struggled with our existing hours and we hope they'll now be able to play more of a role in our forums. It's also been very difficult for members on the Free to use forum to fit all their posting into a narrow three hour window. So hopefully by more than doubling your access time per day you'll be able to get a lot more out the boards.

As mentioned previously, we couldn't do this without the help and support of our Community moderators. Our thanks go to all of them for their dedication and hard work.

We also need the help of every member of the forum. If you spot something posted which shouldn't be there then please use the 'report this post' button. We want to be more open, improve access hours even further, allow you to do and say more here but we really do need your help to do it. Whether that's by reporting posts, staying within the guidelines or showing patience and understanding when we do make a mistake (which we will), it all makes a difference in what we can offer you.

Thanks and enjoy the new hours!

    Matt
The Guide Thread is an idea I've already used in the E-Season forum. It's a way of freeing up space for debate by putting stickied threads into one post.If you've other threads you'd like to see posted here let me know. In time this thread can be an introduction to the forum, letting new users find the useful topics for themselves.

    Matt

And 3 - 10 would still mean we get 7hrs

As for not changing the match day thread yet, there's actually no point in changing them for a while yet, as we only have 1 more match until pre-season in July.
In regards to changing times after a match, it is also when the site is at it's most busy, so increasing the number of posters means it will slow the site down even further and .tv have to think about its paying customers first.

I would prefer GD opening times to be a few hours after a match, because then that way match goers will be able to contribute more and it shouldnt slow down the rest of the forums as much

There's one thing that has helped enormously in enabling this extension, plus all the other developments in the pipeline, and that's our community mods. All volunteers, hardly rewarded, they're already doing a great job and I for one am grateful to them, even if they did delete a thread of mine (yes, it does happen). Please be nice to them, say hello and thank you every now and again, don't complain too much if it's your post that gets moved/merged/edited/deleted.

If you see posts that you think need moderation, please use the Report buttion by the offending post and mods will see it. Don't report a post just because you don't agree with it though -- that just increases the burden on the mods.

If you have any serious complaints, Website Feedback forum is your first point of call. Again, please make sure the complaint is valid -- if you've started the tenth "we should buy Owen" thread of the day and it has been merged with one entitled "we should not buy Owen", accept that the merge was deserved and don't complain.

That's coming but not until the new hardware is in place.

Enough from the nanny: post on and enjoy

    Got it.

Not saying I want to be one, not sure if I could handle the power!!
    I was just curious.
Though the power to edit peoples' spelling mistakes would be good.

That's a qualification in my opinion

Matt, our Community Manager, spots potential candidates by their posts, contacts them to see if they're interested, then it's a short spell of training, lots of docs to read and you're in. Main tasks are to keep the forums clean, legal and decent -- which sounds a bit dry but it's just keeping an eye on posts and responding to any that need moderation. There are a good number of community mods around already, there's a staff room only visible to them where they can discuss posts and posters, or just natter. It's all voluntary but it's (I think) a rewarding task -- I wouldn't do it so much in my spare time if I didn't think so.

Edit: Could I give any of the kids detention if they get too many spellings wrong?

The soft approach never works. Tough love all the way.
First mistake: Point it out and correct it.
    Second mistake: An official warning.
    Third mistake: Banned.

I hear you. We're increasing the resources devoted to the forums, once that new power is available to us we'll look to increase matchday hours.Should all be in place for the start of the new season.

On the subject of Community Mods, do they get any reward or is it all purely volunteering work?

    Just wondering is all.

^^ We do get free EST but I had it anyways, of course the main rewards is knowing that we are helping to improve the forums, or at least I hope we are

Free EST is quite a good bonus, especially for someone like me who can't afford it ... but don't take that as me dropping hints as I would be a really bad CM!

And I agree you are improving it, it went through a stage at the start where it didn't seem to be working at all in my opinion but it is getting there now.

I've been around these boards a while and I remember when it was a really good forum, probably the first few years it was around, but then post Istanbul I've noticed more WUM's and knee jerk fans which have made this place pretty awful - serious lack of decent debate.

But you have to hand it to the CM's, since their introduction it is getting much better, there's more debate, and less idiotic posters.

    So thanks.

Welcome mate, of course I am open to any suggestion on how you think we could further improve the forums....

Tomorrow we're starting the best players for LFC in each position, a poll that will last a week and gives stats on each player-starting with goalkeeper- so there chance for some voting and a bit of debate, hopefully threads like this will keep us occupied during silly season

Yeah, I helped out with those polls and also am running a FD'S 100 Best Players 08/09 - your contribution on that thread would be helpful and well received but only if you have the time - so hopefully this place will be more bearable than usual Silly Season's on here.

But, like I said, this place is getting much better since the arrival of Community Mods and while Matt has to take a lot of credit for that so do you lot - especially you as you seem the most active CM in Football Discussion and one of the most likeable.

So thanks again and here's hoping things only get better and better!

half the threads on this page could be put into the la liga thread. any lavezzi threads should go into the serie a one

those threads are there so this place doesn't become gummed up with a load of threads with only one or two replies in each. use the search button

sort it out mods, and then you can delete this thread
