Alright wait until you see the movies until you shout them down. I've seen loads of the Jeremy Brett television adaptions and liked them a lot. For me they really got the character down perfectly but in the new movies Robert Downey Jr is just as true and yet completely different at the same time, it shows Holmes intelligence in a different way but still perfectly loyal to his character. It took me until about halfway into the first movie to get used to it but when I did I loved it.

I'm still betting that there are more 'sploshions and gun fights in this movie than in the entire four series of the JB versions...would I be about right?

Thing for me is that SH tales are fairly sedate detective stories, not adventure/swashbuckling stories.

I expect that Poirot will be the next big screen experience...the dapper little Belgian detecive using his "little grey cells" to swing across yawning chasms, construct bombs and gunning down hordes of enemies while Captain hastings and Mrs Lemon back him up with RPG's and heavy machine gun fire...

(yes, I do view modern movies with suspicion and prejudice...especially when they start raping real classic tales and *********** all over the spirit of them to appeal to the brainless MTV generation)

Watch the movie and then you won't have to speculate whether you're right. You're speaking from knowledge of one thing and not another. I've seen both adaptions and others and made my opinion. If you see the films you won't have to speak from ignorance and speculation in you're opinions, you can see the movie and then see if it's true to Sherlock Holmes rather than bringing your own prejudice of the 'brainless MTV generation' into it and forming your opinion from there.

Well, I watched a trailer...pretty much what I expected, loads of 'splosions and machine guns and general high octain stunty action that I simply do not associate with classic Holmes tales.

Goodfellas (9.5/10). ******' awesome! Joe Pesci is very hilarious in this movie. Unfortunately, he dies at the end. & RDN was/is great "as usual".

    Great movie, indeed.

So many people I know, including me, refused to watch the films for similar reasons. I've read all the tales and loved them but the films are also excellent. Whether you think it ties in with your perception of the original Sherlock Holmes or not, it's a good film that's meant to entertain, not something to be taken too seriously or viewed as sacrilege. Trust me....just watch it.

Watched National Treasure 2 today. It has more similarities with the first one than Hangover 2 has with the first Hangover. It was a very childish/naïve movie that completely copied the first one but it was still highly enjoyable. Just like with Hangover, I enjoyed the first movie so I liked the sequel, as well.

I also saw 2012. It had SO much more potential. There was way too many 'random' clips about what was happening all over the world. It got better towards the end.

Is it really that bad? 'Cause I want to watch it and in IMDB they rate it 7.8 or 7.9.

Oo, long time away from this thread.

American Pie Reunion - 6/10. Should really never have gone beyond part 1 anyway.

Project X next on the list!

    Predators - 7/10

Surpisingly decent movie when compared to the previous AVP pap. I enjoyed it a lot, actually had some of the feel of the original Arnie epic.

I first saw Apocalypto on DVD, upscalled to about 720p, it looked okay...then I got the BD pretty cheap...the differencewas amazing, it looks spectacular.

Let us know how American Psycho looks...

    Gosh.

Corrie has already got me barrackading late night bars, maybe I should keep a low profile and give the movie a miss.
