Greetings from Brazil First of all an up-date on Serie A.

As previously stated, the Brazil serie A is very competitive. This tear more than most it appears.

As of Sunday morning, the top of the table was thus.

Cruzeiro 54 pts played 31
Flumenense 53 pts played 31
Corinthians 50 pts played 31
Botafogo 48 pts played 32 played Saturday.
Santos 47 pts played 31
Internacional 47 pts played 31

So Sundays games were of interest to all concerned.

Let's look at what happened, first we'll take Cruzeiro, who were to play at home to Atletico-MG (please note there are three "Atleticos': MG/PR and GO) Atletico-MG in 17th place (relegation zone) were expected to be an easy three points for the home team.

But that was not to be the case, in a pulsating first thirty minutes, Atletico-MG looked more like the champions elect, with a first goal after just six minutes, and a second and third after 23 and 30 Mins All scored by Obina.

Five minutes later Cruzerios managed to pull one back, with Gilberto scoring. So the teams went in at half time 1-3.

The second half saw more of the same, with Atletico pushing for a fourth, which duly came after full back Rever netted,on 21 mins.

Atletico then eased off a little, perhaps tiring from there earlier efforts, and after 32 mnutes Diego Tardelli was substituted for Daniel Carvalha. this led to a slight change in tactics/formation, and a little confusion. Cruzerios were quick to take advantage, with Thiago Ribeiro immediately scoring a brace on 32 and 33 mins.

Atletico, now on the back foot, quickly re-grouped and defended well their, now slim advantage, for the last 12 mins, with the "shock of the day" result 3-4 to Atletico-MG.

So this result left the way open for Fluminense to take over at the top, but first they had the more difficult game of a visit to Atletico-PR placed 7th in the league, and no push-overs.

It proved to be an evenly fought contest, with few real clear cut chances on goal in the first half.

The second half was a more lively event, but the opening goal was a surprise own goal, by the Fluminenses' forward Washington, (who had a shocking game, and had also squandered a few earlier chances to score); being the culprit after 15 mins.

Fluminense pushed forward, but again with few clear chances of a goal, until the 34th min when Marquinho (by far their best player) fired a fierce right foot shot, from twenty five yards, to level the score.

Atletico 'tho did not lie down, and within four minutes they had regained the lead, with second half substitute, Wagner Diniz scoring.

Flumenense continued to push forward, but Atletico held firm, until that is, the 42nd min when Ivan Gonzales, a Atletico second half substitute, was adjudged to have bought down the Fluminense forward Tarta, in the area. The resultant penalty was converted by Conca. 2-2 was to be the final score.

The outcome left Fluminense in first spot on goal difference with Cruzeiro, Corinthians are now just one point behind them in 3rd, after they gained a narrow 1-0 victory over 10th placed Palmeiras.with a goak after 22 mins from Bruno Cesar, who was also voted man of the match.

So all eyes now look to Wednesday night, when Corinthians have a date with Flamengo, who remain unbeaten since the arrival of new Coach Luxemburgo.

Now whilst the result of this game has it's importance, ie: if Corinthians win they go first in the league with a two point lead, meanwhile; Flamengo, last years champions, troubled by the loss of key players and change in trainer etc, are a little too close to the relegation zone. (Albeit they have yet to lose a match under new coach Luxemburgo, a record he hopes to maintain).

The other surrounding circumstances also add to the interest.

First of all there is the venue. Flamengo are homeless as their beloved Maracanna has been closed for redevelopment ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
It is not due to re-open until 2013 when it is hoped Spain will accept an invitation from the CBF to play Brazil in an opening ceremony.

Meanwhile Flamengo are forced to find any venue they can, So the game was played at the Enganhao stadium, the home ground to Botafogo.

(A bit like Liverpool having to play a home game at Newcastle utds ground).

The stadium itself was a bit of a white elephant, it cost R$ 380 million (US$192 million) to build, which was six times the stadium's original construction budget of R$ 60,000,000.

The Mayor's office estimated in 2003 that the total construction cost would be of $30 million (or R$60 million), the actual cost was thus 533% higher that early estimates.

On June 30, 2007, the stadium was opened. The first match was the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A game between Botafogo and Fluminense. 40,000 tickets were available for the match and they were exchanged for donations of powdered milk. In all, 43,810 people were at the stadium to watch the inauguration match, when Botafogo beat Fluminense 2-1. The first goal of the match was scored by Fluminense's Alex Dias. As Alex Dias scored the first goal of the stadium, he was awarded the Valdir Pereira Trophy (Taça Valdir Pereira), which was named after retired footballer Didi. As Botafogo won the stadium's inaugural match, the João Havelange (ex President of FIFA and the CBF) Trophy was awarded to the club.

The stadium is owned by the City of Rio de Janeiro, but it has been rented to Botafogo until at least 2027 (20 years).

I mention these facts in light of the next World Cup. Most stadiums in Brazil have been grossly underestimated in re/ building cost. And almost always delayed. Let's hope this will not affect the 2014 World Cup.

Now whilst this is a relatively new stadium, questions have been asked as to its construction, also the playing surface itself.

The kick off was 2200hrs, and given the transport problems, of getting to and from the game, for both sets of fans, plus the fact that the game was shown live on national tv. the attendance was low, at only 9,782.

One group of "fans" were not very welcome by the Corinthians, especially Ronaldo.

A group of transvestite prostitutes attended the game, their collective target/protest, was Ronaldo, Who, (it is alleged, by spokesperson, Jose Carlos Peruano), invited a transvestite prostitute to his hotel room to conduct a "programme" (a "programme" in Brazil, is a sexual act for money). Having completed said "programme" Ronaldo refused to pay, or hand over his No.9 shirt as (allegedly) promised.

Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos, two of Corinthians star players, are well known to Luxemburgo from his time at Real Madrid and the Brazil National team.

So; back to the football.

The first half was very much Corinthians. Whilst Flamengo attempted to play their usual passing game, they were impeded, by first of all the playing surface, which was no better than a Sunday park pitch, but also Luxemburgos tactics of playing three forwards, thus surrendering much of the midfield play to Corinthians, which they dominated.Corinthians scored on the half hour by Ronaldo, but they did not press home their advantage.

At half time, Luxemburgo showed perhaps why he has been such a successful trainer. Ever the tactician, (Rafa in disguise); he substituted the forward Deivid for midfielder Marquinhas. The result was almost instant, Corinthians lost control of the midfield, and two minutes into the second half, Flamengo drew level with a goal from Diogo.

Corinthians managed to re-group, with a change in formation. But their earlier dominance was nullified by the new look Flamengo midfield. The end result, a one all draw.

So Corinthians are level on points with Flumenise and Cruzeiro on 54pts, having played one game more. The other two teams to play Friday and Saturday respectively.

Reports of those games to follow, plus news on the Brazil squad for the Argentina game, the FIFA u-turn, under pressure from the CBF re use of technology, the president of Commebol Nicolas Leoz, and the President of Odepa, Mario Vazquez Rana, who talks of corruption in South American football.

Quick update on the results, Fluminese beat Gremio 2-0 and Cruzeiro had the same result against Gremio PP.

That leaves Fluminese and Cruzeiro in joint first p;ace in Serie A with Corinthians three points behind. Botafoga are still in the running, as are Santos. So all to play for in the coming weeks.

The BIG news here of course is the election of the new president, Dilma Rousseff, the first ever female president of Brazil.

Whilst I am sure this has been reported in the UK press, have they reported her history? Her time in prison and subject to tourture?.

I will give a full account later, also the exclusive interviews with Joao Havelange., Mario Vazquez Rana and Nicolas Leoz.

If you don't know who they all are I will explain tomorrow.

Hi Matt, Thanks for the support, nice to see it's getting so many visits if not many responses/input.

"Lance" have been doing "exclusive" interviews with the top people in S/A football, as mentioned above. I'll be back later today to report what they have to say.

Joao Havelange is a character, even at ninety five years of age he is still very much in the mix at both FIFA and the CBF. Has some interesting things to say as well. Just want to get all the translation correct before posting,

So much to report and so very far behind, where to start?

As reported, we have a new President (or should that be Presidentress)? here in Brazil, a Lady by the name of Dilma Rouseff, a pretty tough cookie by all accounts. A bit of a Nelson Mandela figure. But she only suffered three years in jail.

The good Lady will take formal office on 1st January 2011, her vice President will be Michel Temer, she succeeds Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula)

Born 14 December 1947 in Belo Horizonte, her Political party is the Workers' Party. (So she is one of us.)

Dilma Vana Rousseff is the daughter of a Bulgarian immigrant and a schoolteacher, Rousseff was raised in Belo Horizonte. She became a socialist during her youth, and following the 1964 coup d'état joined left-wing urban guerrilla groups that fought against the military dictatorship. Rousseff was captured and jailed for three years, and it is alleged, tortured.

It was due to her Socialist beliefs and her Bulgarian (suspected communist) father, that she was imprisoned by the then ultra right wing/military government, without a fair trial. (Hence the likening to the great Nelson Mandela).

After her release, Rousseff rebuilt her life in Porto Alegre with Carlos Araújo, her partner for 30 years. they helped to found the Democratic Labour Party (PDT) in Rio Grande do Sul state, participating in numerous electoral campaigns.

Dilma became the Secretary of the Treasury of Porto Alegre during the Alceu Collares administration, and later the Secretary of Energy of Rio Grande do Sul under both Collares and Olívio Dutra administrations. In 2000, after an internal dispute in the Dutra cabinet, she left PDT and joined the Workers' Party (PT).

In 2002, Dilma joined the committee responsible for the energy policy of presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who, after being elected as President, invited Dilma to become Minister of Energy.

In 2005, a political crisis triggered by a corruption scandal led to the resignation of Chief of Staff José Dirceu. Dilma was assigned to the post, and remained in office until March 2010, when she resigned in order to run for President. With Lulas' full support.

She is the first female to be elected President of Brazil, after winning a "head to head" battle with Jose Serra, on 31 October 2010, she is also the first economist elected for the office.

Well that's just an idea of the new Lady in charge. And sport is very high on her agenda.

The 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics are of great importance to Brazil. Not just in the prestige of the country as a whole, but also economically, and the Lady is an economist.

I will post a little later a full transcript of an "exclusive" interview she gave to "Lance" the national sports daily, (quicker off the mark than a greyhound out of the trap, as usual). It looks like very good news for all sports fans.

Meanwhile some football news, which might be of interest.

As previously reported, the CBF are very concerned as to the irregular decisions in this summers world cup. They cite the handball that led to a goal for Brazil, (they are always fair and honest about such things here), the offside Argentinian goal and the Lampard goal, that was not given.

So the CBF have been putting pressure on FIFA the last few weeks, and lo and behold, FIFA have done a complete u-turn. (more on this in a later post re Joao Havelange)

Last April a FIFA spokesman (can't remember who, but I had a thread running on it at the time) stated. "Video or other technology will never be used in football".

Last week a spokesperson for FIFA stated that due to "requests from various bodies", "We are now looking at ways to utilise modern technology to improve the game". (not sure if I've got the quote 100% just translated from Portuguese). Must check the FIFA site later.

So it does look as if the CBF have scored a goal, and that there will be a use of technology by the time of the 2014 World Cup.if not before. It might be video, 4th official, or a chip in the ball? who knows, but it will happen, I promise you (mark my words).

Now here is the fun/interesting bit.

Mondays' "Lance" reported on the 2nd man u goal against Spurs. Part of the reason for this, is of course, that the Spurs goalkeeper, Gomez; happens to be a Brazilian. But the claim made, is that video evidence would have shown that the goal was not a legal goal within the rules of the game.

(I could fill two pages about what was reported here viz a viz a certain beach ball).

The funny/interesting bit was the fact that, the report then goes on to list other "mistakes" from referees. All the games mentioned were Liverpool games. Liverpool v Sunderland, twice, Liverpool v Chelsea, and Everton v Liverpool.

I take it as a compliment to Liverpool that we are so high profile here. I know for a fact that at least one of the top reporters for "Lance" is a Liverpool fan/follower. Long may it continue.

And wake up you people on marketing, there are great opportunities here. See my previous post in this thread, re Argentine teams getting access to Brazilian markets.

You could have a thing where the manager contests descisions (three tries each?) but thing is, not only are descisions contentious even on video but it would also add alot of injury time. Of course, common sense says that the clock could easily be stopped in professional sport in the case of a delay - lot's of sports do that afterall.

But then theres the problem with smaller clubs and how they are supposed to afford this technology to use on their pitches. It would end up having to be primarily for the top leagues, which isn't really ideal.

So yeah, the video tech debate isn't quite as clear cut as it's made out to be. Certainly it's an idea that richness proposes. NIce work from CBF though. Look forward to seeing this interview.

With the new owners in place, who value young players with good potential to develop in the future, Brazil should provide a lot of interesting options to start with!

OK so before reporting on the latest in the "Bruno Saga" let's take a look at a few fun aspects that have surfaced here.

A large group of transvestites protested at the Flamengo V Corinthians game. This is because of the accusation of Corinthians' Ronaldo taking a transvestite prostitute to his hotel room, and refusing to pay, her/him for "services rendered".

There were many banners and messages of never ending love for Ronaldo. But first he must settl his debts.

O' and the game ended in a one all draw.

Meanwhile, rumours are abound that Adriano may be making a return to Flamengos from Roma. To cement his place in the Brazil national team.

Given the publicity here in Brazil regarding his "choice of friends", (alleged drug dealing and illegal guns), I am not sure Mano Menezez will welcome his return. BUT who knows, rooney seems to get away with everything, and Adriano is twice as good as rooney.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Tony Blair is giving his full support to Brazil, both for the 2014 World Cup, and the 2016 Olympics.

All I can add to that is "God Save Brazil".

Update on the Bruno saga. Prepare to get confused.

This tale has so many twists and turns, it is hard to keep track. So I'll just give you the "facts", (I use that word loosely), as reported by the media, and you can try and make some sense of them. Good luck.

A Tribunal is holding interviews, and questioning of all the suspects involved in this case. To decide if the case will go to a full trial.

Last week, Edson Moreira, the Federal officer in charge of the investigation; announced that the evidence and accusations made by Brunos cousin, Sergio Rosa Salles, have been refuted.

Sergio now claims that the Civil police "extracted his confession and allegations", which stated that Bruno participated in the murder of Eliza, and disposal of her corpse, were all given whilst suffering "mental torture".

This "confession and statement" was the only hard evidence that the police had to produce in court. (A body or any remains of Eliza, have yet to be found). Everything else is based on suspicion or allegation and the fact that Eliza has disappeared.

Meanwhile the search for the elusive Eliza, or her body, continues. They are dragging a large lake in Bela Horizont, where it is reported Bola, Brunos lifelong friend and "right hand man" is alleged to have been seen, acting suspiciously, around the time of Elizas' disappearance. Bola meanwhile, denies he was ever there.

Bruno made a statement that he knows Eliza is still alive, and living in Sao Paulo. He added, "She has abandoned me and the child, I am suffering badly for her actions, tell her this when you see her".

Now it should be remembered that Elizas' own mother deserted her when she was a baby, only came back on the scene after Eliza announced she was expecting Brunos child. (like mother, like daughter)? And Elizas' mother has filed for legal guardianship of the child. (Is this a Gran-maternal instinct? or is she after Brunos maintenance payments?).

Of course, what these people seem to have forgotten, is that if Bruno is convicted, and serves a long prison sentence, he will no longer be a highly paid footballer.

The Tribunal is due to reach/give a decision as to whether there is a case to put before a jury, by 17th November. And unless some hard facts are discovered in the next week, it looks very likely that all the suspects will be freed.

Liverpool and Roma with the same owners? See last bit of post.

As mentioned, Liverpool receive a lot of media coverage here, mostly positive.

The "rescue" by NESV has been extensively reported. Why "rescue", well that is because of the history, or should I say "hatred still held" in Brazil for Hicks, and his miss-dealings at Corinthians some years back. (As posted earlier).

All the media in Brazil wanted to see hicks removed from the club, they could see Liverpool suffering the same fate. With top players being sold off etc.

A full page is given in the monthly FUTI magazine, headlined, "End of negotiations" and the court case etc. Not worth repeating what they say, all the facts are well known to you all I am certain. Nice photo of J.Henry and factual report on NESV.

Just to say that everyone here is very happy for Liverpool. They have also taken a great liking toward J Henrys wife, or as someone else put it "Liverpools new First Lady" the "Linda Linda".

I should explain that in Brazil "Linda" translates as beautiful. The commentators have good taste.

Two other items mentioned I did not know, nor have I seen mentioned elsewhere. (but I don't get to see much uk press here).

One is that sales of LFC merchandise is now on par with scumchester.

The second item states that "Corrier Dello Sport" (the Italian sports journal) reports that NESV are also taking an interest in Roma. Who are also in financial difficulties/up for sale.

Anyone heard more about this?

Brazil are due to play the old enemy Argentina next Wednesday, but I'll save news of that for next week.

Meanwhile, back to the Bruno saga, accusations and denials galore.

A "Letter bomb" was produced at the Tribunal on Monday. Not the exploding kind, but the contents of the letter are said to be explosive.

The letter was handed to Lead Judge Marixa Fabiane Lopes Rodrigues by Prosecutor Gustavo Fantini.

The letter is alleged to have been written by Dayanne do Carma Souza, the ex wife of Bruno.

The letter describes an alleged conversation Dayanne had with Brunos cousin, Sergio Rosa Sales. It states that Sergio related a conversation he had heard, in which Luiz Henrique Romao o, Macarrao stated he intended to kill Eliza and the baby.

Under cross examination, Dayanne confirmed she had written the letter, (as and when it was written is unclear) and whilst she said, she did not totally believe what she had been told, she did visit Brunos house on June 9th.

She said she found Eliza there locked in a room, naked and with a badly bruised hand. When Dayanne asked about the injury Eliza said she was hitting the door. When asked why she was at the house, Eliza is said to have replied, "to resolve issues with Bruno".

Asked as to why she removed the baby from the house, Dayanne stated "It was a maternal instinct".

Asked if she thought Eliza was still alive, Dayanne replied, "If you've been stangled, chopped up and fed to dogs, I don't think you'd still be alive". But added she had not seen any proof of this.

Above are the facts as reported, below are my and other peoples comments/speculation.

Now of course all this leads to further questions. If Dayanne thought Elizas life was in danger, why did she not report the matter to the police?. By not doing so, she could be seen as an accomplice. Or perverting the cause of justice for with-holding the letter until now etc.

What was the real reason for taking the child?. "Maternal instinct"? or was it the thought she might get custody of the child if Eliza were "out of the way" and hence a further share of Brunos income?. But didn't bank on Elizas mother coming onto the scene?

And by stating that she knows Bruno had no knowledge of the alleged crime, is this a fact, or is Dayanne missing her maintenance payments for her and Brunos two children?

A writer of fiction would be hard pressed to come up with this story, that's for sure.

And if you think all that makes the issue a tad more confusing, wait till I post yesterdays news, and the revelations made in court this morning.

I will wait for the 7pm news report to get the facts correct and get you all up to date. Bye for now.

I don't want this thread to become all about the Bruno saga, but this week things have really opened up. allegations, accusations, denials galore.

I will concentrate on this till the end of the week, then look at other issues here in South America.

We have a new President, Argentina are considering changing their league system, Uraguay have seven teams challenging for the title, one of them called Liverpool.

Now I knew there was a team here called Arsenal, and another called Everton in S/A. But I did not know we had a namesake in Uraguay. So I am off to investigate this other team called Liverpool. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Then there are all the other "exclusive" interviews with Blatter FIFA and UEFA allegations of corruption etc, also interviws with the presidents of all the South American federations. (this is becoming a full time job).

It all makes interesting reading, and a good insight to football in South America."The second home of football" as they call it.

Before I give an up-date on the "Bruno Saga" or take a look at the forthcoming Brazil/Argentina "friendly" (That's like calling an England/Scotland game a friendly), Thought I would share with you a little bit of fun from yesterdays F1 Grand Prix.

The page two cartoon depicts New World Champion Sebastian Vettel in his Red Bull, crossing the finish line, alongside; alonso is depicted in a "Whacky races" version of a ferrari, wearing a jesters hat, The balloon words from alonso are "unlucky, unlucky many times"

In the actual race report alonso is taken to task for his remarks that Petrov should have let him pass, so that he could win the Championship.

The tv commentators were just as scathing, (quite rightly) stating that Petrov was racing for position, and had no reason to allow alonso to pass.

Alonso is described as a "cry baby" (best translation I can get from the actual report), and the "Ratings" given to the drivers for the weekend were as follows, Vattel 10/10 Hamilton 8/10, Button 7/10 alonso 0/10.

Ferrari and alonso did not make any friends in Brazil this weekend. They have lost a lot of respect, some people even think that Massa should be No.1 driver next year, or look for another seat.

But of course, they are very proud people here in Brazil and very patriotic about most things but especially sportspeople.

Young Brazilian born lass, Sheyla Almeida Hershey,married and living in Houston, (quite a looker by the way google her name to check her out).holds the World record as having the Worlds largest breasts. These huge mammary glands were the result of seven kilos of silicone implant.

However, due to a life threatening infection setting in, the implants had to be removed.

The defiant "Model" and housewife has stated that she will have new "larger" implants installed as soon as the infection has been cleared. Stating, "I could live without my teeth, but life is not worth living, without my breasts".

I guess it takes all sorts to make our world a more interesting and fun place to be.

Back to the "Bruno Saga". 9/10/11the November.

Remember, the bits in brackets are my personal comments, the rest is as reported via the media.

Following on from Dayannes "letter bomb" as reported earlier, two more suspects gave evidence to the tribunal, and changed their accounts of events, from earlier statements.

Flavio Caetona de Araujo and his friend Wemerson Marques de Souza o Coxinha, (taxi driver); both admitted that they had seen Eliza at Brunos' "Esmerelda" property on the 8th and 9th of June.

The police have not discounted the fact that they were also there, on the 10th, the last day Eliza is known to have been seen.

Flavio, under four hours of questioning said that he originaly denied seeing Eliza, as he had not seen a photograph of her, and so did not know what she looked like.

(sounds a bit strange to me, that you could spend two days in the same house with a fellow party guest, who also happens to be an attractive woman; and you don't know who she is? even more so, given my own experiences of going to house parties in Brazil).

Under further cross examination he said Eliza had the freedom to use the whole of the house, and did not appear to be under duress, or in any way worried.

Flavio continued, that other guests were invited to the house for a football party that evening, Eliza did not act in any way concerned, and mixed freely with the other guests.. And he then added, that one of the reasons he had denied seeing Eliza was that he was worried he would be involved with the enquiry to her disappearance.

Both Flavio and Wemerson, stated that they heard Bruno tell Dayanne to remove the baby from the house, to a safe location. Whilst they did not say it directly they agreed when asked, that they thought it was so that Macarrao should not know of the babys' whereabouts.

Flavio confirmed he had seen Eliza by the pool on the 8th and 9th, but when they returned to the house on the 10th they only encountered Bruno and Dayanne, whilst Macarrao Eliza, the baby and the young cousin "J" were not there.

Police have now been given permission to get "tracking" details of the mobile phones of Macarrao and "J". (The legal process here is very complicated, whilst the police in the UK can obtain these details given the slightest suspicion, here you need a Court Order).

Macarrao will be questioned the next day.

The "Bruno Saga" continues. (I promise I will get this out of the way soon, so I can report on other news, but I know a lot of people want to read what's going on, so please bear with me)

I will try to report the following "word for word", but please understand that Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese, are difficult languages to translate.

To give you one example, there is the word "vela", now this word can translate as a spark plug for your car, a candle for your dinner table, or a sail for your yacht, or even a small sail boat.

Add to that the word "velha" which is pronounced almost the same, and translates as an "old lady", plus the fact that Brazilian Portuguese is as different to Portuguese, as is "American English" to "English-English" (not forgetting the Geordies, Welsh, Irish or Scots), I think you can see my trouble.

But I will do my best, so if you discuss this thread in the pub, you will know that the basic facts are correct.

Thursdays Headline. "Sinister Accusation"!"

Brunos' Lawyer accuses the Chief of the Homicide Civil police, (Minas Gerais), Edson Moreira; is said to have asked Bruno for two million Real (approx 800k UK pounds sterling) and that if he was willing to pay these monies, all charges would be dropped against him, (Bruno) and the ex policeman, Marcos and Bola.

The lawyer stated/accused, that Snr Moreira; with the payment of said monies, wanted to "doctor the charges" and would like all of the charges to be ("cascalhinho") translates as, "smashed into small pebbles". And that "tudo mundo sabe disso". Which translates as, "the whole world/everybody knows this".

Bolas' Defence lawyer, Zanone; backed up the accusations,stating that his client had "in confidence" explained to him that Edson had requested the money/bribe.and he would testify to this.

Zanone added, (aimed at Edson), if you say anything, that could harm my client, you will need good cause. You do not have a body, so you have no proof of a crime. What can you prove?

So we await the next days outcome. But to be honest folks, my money says Bruno walks away from this. I'll explain that in my next post.

I'd do it now but I have not checked all the facts. and I am ready for the sack.

Fair enough LJOC, to be honest with all the injuries/withdrawals that both teams are facing, it would not be possible to give a valid team sheet until tomorrow morning at the earliest.

Headlines here are "Mano has work to do" and "Messi the hope for Argentina".

Good interview with Messi in "Lance" which I will come back to later tonight. Amongst questions re Marradona and other things, he says he has never been in a winning side against Brazil,(1st team games) and hopes this will be the one. I told you it's not a friendly.

But for such a young player, he has some amazing records. O' would it not be wonderful to see him in a Red Liverpool shirt alongside Torres. Well, we can all have our dreams.

"The Bruno Saga" OK so let's get quickly up to date, then I can get back to football news.

Brunos' cousin, Sergio Rosa Sales, had strongly denied he had ever visited the "Contagem Motel" He had said, he met with Bruno on the 6th of June, and visited a friends (Thiagunhos), house. After which he and Bruno went to a local bar, where they spent twenty minutes. He stated that he then caught a bus to another location.

Police evidence has shown that Sergio, (or at least his mobile phone) was at the Motel, (or within 100 metres), also staff at the Motel testify that he was there.

Staff members stated that Sergio attended an all night party at the Motel, on the night of the 7th. Adding that Sergio was in a room with Eliza, and that the baby was asleep on the carpet.

So yet more accusations and more denials.

More of the Bruno Saga.

Bruno under further cross examination, stated that he had no part in, or knowledge, of Eliza being murdered.

Bruno said that he had paid Eliza Thirty thousand real (approx 14k UK) and that Eliza had gone to Holland to make films. (remember she is a known porn star).

Bruno added that he last saw Eliza when she was at a taxi rank with Macarrao and "J".

Again Bruno denies any involvement in any plan to murder Eliza, or any participation in carrying out such an act.

There is some confusion, (yet more conflicting accusations), regarding monies Bruno paid to Dayanne and Bola. These are being investigated by the police. So until answered not worth reporting.

Now for my opinion after discussing the matter with a number of Flamengo fans last night.

The eight Flamengo fans I met with all consider Bruno to be a "Burro" or Ass. And even if he walks free they do not want him bak at the club.

So donning my Inspector Morse hat, I come up with one of two possible solutions.

Given all the statements and subsequent denials, all the different stories which are then changed, or proven to be total lies, (eg Bruno denies being at the Motel, but he paid the bill with his credit card, and was identified by Motel staff ).

Added to the fact that no body has yet been found. What evidence do the police really have? Answer, NONE.

So: Are the ten accused very intelligent? was this all a well worked out plan? did they contrive to get rid of/murder, Eliza, then feed her body to dogs? concoct this whole scenario to confuse and confound the authorities. Knowing that without a body, a prosecution will be very difficult?

Or are they all stupid and scared, changing their stories in order to protect themselves.

Or of course the third option is always there, Eliza took Brunos "pay off" and is now somewhere in Europe making porno movies.

Thursday is decision day for the tribunal. Let's see what they decide.

Get this folks. The lunchtime news ran an item stating the Brunos' Lawyer is a crack cocaine addict and drug dependent. Don't have all the details, will wait for the evening news bulletin and get back later.

Meanwhile Lucas had a good game for Brazil. Teams were evenly matched, very open and attractive game. Nice to watch.

Then a last minute piece of magic, and Messi was through on goal. Lucas almost got a challenge in but not quite fast enough.

It was nice to see Ronaldinho and Messi exchange shirts and a big hug, after the game. Very competitive but great mutual respect. O' to see one of them alongside Torres in a Red shirt.
