vasco won now win or win the 2 matchs, if we draw 1 rely on others results and in the difference of goals

Sorry about the loss Marip .. look on the bright side - now there'll be more time to fix the league problems.
If you fired Gallardo, how many manager's would that make in one year ? You guys think you're Liverpool FC now ?
Seriously, how does Juan Ramon Carrasco get fired after winning the Clausura last year ?

Carrasco didn't get fired, he decided to go, he had a love-hate relaintonship whit the club for an incident that happened when he was a nacional player (in summary gave a championship to peñarol) and this for the nacional fan, is something that we can't forgive, but he came, and won the championship and decided to go

About Managers, the firt option for the fans is Hugo de Leon idol of the club, but he had problems whit the president, so is imposible. Martin Lasarte (the manager who make Suarez debut in the first team of nacional) former coach of Real Sociedad ascenden to the first division of spain, even he could won to barca, another options in my personal point of view, is Pablo Repetto, former coach of Defensor Sporting in 2010/2011 that won de apertura but lose the finals against us, but i don't know if it is posible,

Aah my mistake on choice of words... just seemed like he was "pushed out". By the way, while a win is a win, Lasarte's Sociedad win was vs. Barca "A-" because if I recall that was the week before the Champs League Semis vs Madrid.

Speaking of Defensor - they are looking good in both the league and Copa Lib so far, no ? They will likely be the only Uruguayan team in the Round of 16 - any warm and fuzzies for your fellow countrymen ? (just kidding!).

Interesting situation in Copa Lib Group 1 - Juan Aurich's 1-0 win at home against The Strongest has really tightened up the race for 2nd spot with one game to go. Still think Damiao and Inter will make the Round of 16. Still think this one's UChile, Libertad or Santos' competition to lose. Atletico Nacional started well but have dropped off too precipitously; especially since losing Dorlan Pabon.

I don't think that defensor will advance to the round of 16, seeing that they had 2 matchs out of uruguay, one in the high of quito, and the ohter in liniers against velez, and they had to win at least one of this matchs, VERY dificult, so i think that this will be the worst copa libertadores of the history of uruguay in the championship, i think that is one of the best teams, they played today against peñarol, and played very well, the match end 0 0, but defensor deserved to win and altought it seems unusual, peñarol finish asking for the hour

Defensor might take the game in Buenos Aires because I suspect Gareca's men will win away at Chivas and idle for the final group game. We'll see. I finally watched Liverpool URU play live - and they lost to Defensor. Maybe I shouldn't be watching Nacional live.

Since the League season is kind of a wash right now I'm wondering about next summer and how things go. Know that we won't have another 70m to spend and how about, just for fun, we come up with an All-South American "young & value" summer nominees.. (no single player above 10m and no player over 23). These players must be very strong technically and possess good to fantastic pace.

I'll start off with my list -

Backup DM for Lucas - Romulo (£7m).

    -------------------------------Charles Aranguiz (U de Chile/£4m)-------------------------------------
Tabare Viudez (Nacional/£3m)----------------------------------------John Fredy Pajoy (Once Caldas/£7m)
    -----------------------------------Willian Jose (Sao Paulo/£3m)-------------------------------------------

Gross spend : £24m. Net spend (depending on Kuyt and Maxi's situations): £12m (or less)

    Your nominees ?

Id use that 24m and spend it on Lucas (Sao Paulo/30m)

I would too, but it looks like this deal is not going our way. I was reading on the telegraph that he had spoken to Utd and Chelsea in the January window and you can bet that they will be back in for him at the end of this season. With our shambolic showing in the league, I'm not sure he'd be really inclined to come to us if he moves in the summer window.

It'd be killing to see him in Chelsea or Utd colors though. Hopefully, it never comes to pass that way. If he's not coming here, let him move to the Italian or Spanish league.

And I'd definitely take Romulo and Tabare Viudez from RT's list..key positions that need filling in and I've been impressed with Viudez in the few games I've seen of Nacional's this season.

Yowa .. I share your sentiments. But this was the "if we don't have another 70m and wanted ONLY South American young players, what do we do" list.

We're about 5 players away from having the quality and depth we need to make a sustained run at 4th place (and higher) next season.

I think a mix of quality "value" Europe based & South American talent can still help us even if we don't have the same massive budget as last summer. This is my football Moneyball style list and since we've covered both Homegrown and British quotas for the foreseeable future, no need to overpay for British talent this summer; i.e. we can strictly apply a more statistics driven decision-making process. For the purposes of this, U23 and over 20 and around 10m .... and someone you've watched at least 4 times ! Why the over 20 ? The Moneyball players we bring in have to hit the ground running. Besides, Ecclestone needs to be played more and Adorjan, Raheem and Suso are still young but need to see action with the senior team as subs.

So these are my Europe based players to consider :

    - Sigurdsson/Frei (AMF), Joe Allen/Xhaka (CM), Junior Hoilett/Kevin Grosskreutz (LW), underrated player on an overreaching Monchelgladbach team (4th right in Bundesliga), Patrick Herrmann/Victor Moses (RM/RW), Luuk De Jong (CF) would be some viable candidates.

There are many more value players I haven't seen enough of to make a judgement but read good things about and see good YouTube clips on (but YT tells you little) -
    Gaston Ramirez
    Abel Hernandez
    Bas Dost
    John Guidetti
    Isco
    Milan Badelj

Pete - it will indeed be a bad day for us if Lucas goes to ManU or Chelsea because he will sort out their right mid/wing for years. Aside from our league form, I fear FSG won't be willing to dip in beyond 40m gross spend this summer and we have needs in multiple areas at the moment so I fear we won't even be in the running for him.

If we are lucky enough that the owners throw in about 70m or so (gross) again, then Lucas for 30m and any 4 others from the list above would provide quality starting/depth options next season. Especially considering that Lucas can play RM/CM/RW; and play all of those positions well.

Unless I read it wrong, you made one mistake, Kevin Gosskreutz is a regular starter for Borussia Dortmund, he is also a life-long Dortmund fan. So there is 0% chance of getting him away from Dortmund.

Well I normally always watch Sao Paulo, Nacional and Boca. Then I watch other games that I find interesting. I also enjoy watching Santos.

Hi Yowa ... seemed Perisic and Grosskreutz shared a lot of playing time so was thinking either of them could be a good shout but I prefer Grosskreutz (didn't know about his affinity/connection to Dortmund).

Pete ... the game I'm watching at 4:20PM CDT (11:20 PM Paris time) is the big Rio derby - Clássico dos Milhões- Vasco vs Flamengo. Intriguing back story as Vasco is on the up and Flamengo is definitely on the down as Ronaldinho's form has dipped.

Just saw the Boca game for a bit .. 2nd half starting now and I might split between the games it the Classico is a dud.

Rumors on SporTV Brasil's website suggested that things with Ronaldinho and Flamengo had taken a sharp turn and there is even a possibility of R10 not starting the game today.

Well ... the rumors of the demise of his Brazilian career are a bit premature. R10 just got off the team bus and is starting.

Look out for Vasco's #37-Romulo and #23-Fagner (RB) as well as young RW #44-Willian Barbio. Flamengo do have some quality 25+ yr old players but Moneyball formula precludes nearly all their starters except CB #3-Wellinton from consideration (for us).

Can't find a stream for the Vasco-Flamengo game..have to stick to the Paulista game

Boca are ahead..goal was clearly offside though. Great ball from Riquelme for the "goal" though!

Argentinos Juniors down to 10..deservedly so as it was a horrific challenge.

Sao Paulo have started pretty poorly..Casemiro on in the 15th minute as SPFC make two subs this early in the game!

Casimiro was apparently red carded ? Didn't watch the game but he does have an issue with temperament.

With one more game to go before the playoffs, SP have the inside track on securing the #1 seed in the Paulista playoffs.

A minute into stoppage time in the 2nd half and Flamengo's Leo Moura just won a penalty. R10 about to take it. 1-1 so far. He makes it .. and the game ends 2-1 to Flamengo.

Not ashamed to admit that I misjudged the depth of Flams determination - I had expected this to be the Vasco show. Heh !
