The only two players that really worry me from a South African perspective is Andrew Strauss (batting) and Graeme Swann. Saffers are not known for playing spin very well, with a few exceptions. But we are early days into the coaching era of Gary Kirsten, so maybe he has had a look at how to counter Swann already.
Really? Strauss? We have so many great batters like Trott, Cook, Bell, KP and Prior and Strauss the player who has hit 1 century in over a year frightens you....

As for bowlers, Swann is a superb spinner but if I were you I would be worried more about Broad and Anderson.

It is going to be a very evenly contested series, with us having the slightly better batting line up and you the slightly better bowlers.

Strauss needn't worry you, its the rest of the top 5 that will hopefully cause you problems.

If you're not concerned about our pace attack then you're seriously under-prepared. Probably the two best seam attacks in world cricket right now in these two sides,it will be interesting to see which one comes out on top.

Jimmy is a good bowler, he should cause a few problems, but i'm not too overly worried about him. Strauss seems to score against us, as well as KP. However, i think Vernon Philander will be an absolute handful for England. Although England will be a very good test for him.

Broad is fast becoming one of the best bowlers in world cricket. His recent record is phenomenal. To ignore his threat would be criminal.

Jmmy is more than good, he is one of the best in the world.

    As is Broad.

Philander is a very good promising young cricketer.

But he not on the level of Broad and Anderson, yet.

Steyn will be the true test.

I'm not a fan of Steyn to be honest. Raw pace yes, but an extremely 1 dimensional bowler. Sometimes rankings create an illusion.
Philander really mixes it up. Yes, he is young in test cricket, but certainly has shown to be an incredible prospect.

Really?! I agree that rankings can be deceiving at times but really, he is top of the list. In my opinion the best bowler in the world right now.

West Indies win the toss and will bat first.

Very hot and sunny out there, so could be a good batting wicket.

    First wicket already!!

Broad finds the edge, but take a look at that catch from Jimmy.

One handed and very close in the slips, superb.

Jimmy ripping Kirk Edward's wicket out with a seaming delivery. It's his new wobble delivery!

Pitch not offering a huge amount, which is working to our advantage as usually giant swing misses edges more often.

    26-2

Jimmy showing the slips how to catch.

    Broad get's his second wicket.

Chanderpaul is hurt, bowled in the....painful region....

    64-4 Jimmy with 2 (+ 2 catches) and broad with 2.

    Huge wicket for Engalnd.

    Swann takes Chanderpaul.

And he had to review it, great decision.

Also that is his first test wicket in his hometown.

    125-5

    Even day in the end.

Looked like at one stage it was going to be a walk over but yet again the West indies dug deep.

Superb batting from Sammy and in particular Samuels who hit a terrific 100.

The pitch is really dead though, not much happening at all.

Oh and long may this superb sunny weather continue....

Was really worried that this series would be washed out with the way it was in the build up.

sometimes i cannot understand how you folks can live without so much sun. Where i am, it's sunny most of the time, and a lot of those days, not a cloud in the sky.

Good day's cricket. Excellent bowling from us early on, and i didn't think the windies would even make 180, so you have to applaud the way they fought back with that great stand between Samuels and Sammy.

I did think that Finn might've been included in the XI, but we stuck with a winning team, which is probably the correct decision.

Think there is quite a bit in this wicket actually - saw quite a few balls nip back in, and a few have kept low and others have spat off the pitch quite spitefully. We won't be wanting the windies to get too big of a 1st-innings score as things could start to get a little tricky!

With the new ball yes, but after that it dies.

I (Personally) think it was more lively at Lords.

But all in all it's much better that we have competitive cricket like this.

Don't even get me started on the Finn omission.

I have made it no secret that the lad is the next big thing for us. I reckon if he is in our squad today, the West indies are bowled out by the end of the day.

He is a wicket taker, maybe not as big a swing bowler as Bresnan and not quite as economical (saying that he has tidied his game up considerably). Bresnan hasn't really swung it much today so we would have been better of any way with Finn. Although I will admit that is easier to say in heinsight.

Hello lovely folk of this thread! How are y'all doing? The forums have been a nightmare of late..as they say, old is gold always and never fix something that ain't broke

Windies putting up an admirable fight in this series but I can only see a convincing England victory. And in the meantime, the IPL circus is still going strong

I wouldn't read too much into it. The West Indies bowling attack is very poor and the batting conditions have been very good.
