OK - I'll add this tip - saw a prog a couple of weeks ago where Alex James did a scientific experiment that showed that dairy calcium causes your body to excrete more fat rather than hold onto it, and therefore you won't store it as bodyfat.

He added dairy calcium to his diet for two weeks, sent samples of before and after poo to scientists who confirmed that the after poo contained more fat (ie more than he gained by eating dairy products obv) and this would correlate to a loss of several kgs over a year

And I'll throw this in, I worked for a summer in the analysis lab at a hospital where we analysed stool samples. Sometimes they literally exploded in the jars from the gases. Quite possibly the worst job I've ever done.

The best way is the bodybuilder's diet. try to eat many fat free protein rich aliments, don't eat carbs after 6 pm (rice, bread, pasta...) have a bit of tuna with carrots and stuff like that at night for dinner.
Go to the gym this will change your lifestyle and make you hate unhealthy food.

i recommend Boots Online diet. Its an online food diary and exercise tracker. It makes you actually think about what you eat. Theres about 40,000 food products and you can save your own meals which you cook regularly. I still eat some junk just not as much and look for lower fatty foods. Im now down to 9st 9lbs. If your an online forum bot and/or on the computer all the times its perfect as its easy to keep up to date.

I had tried blind dieting but unless you actually see what it is you eat you will find it difficult to change your eating habits.

My girlfriend started it mid-january and has lost 11lb. She has remarked how 'easy it is' since shes began actually watching what she is eating rather than starving herself then binge eating.

    Good advice ^^

Friend of mine has went from 14% down to 9% body fat in a few weeks by cutting out complex carbs and just eating meat and fruit and veg with little bit of sauce or olive oil on certain things.

Diet is the most important thing as you'll lose wait without excercise if you eat right. What El-Kaasthorr said above about the gym changing your lifestyle is very true and you'll find you will want to avoid fatty foods.

    Pun intended?

I can't believe I have known you for the best part of a decade and you never once told me about working with exploding poos.

That sort of anecdote is the cornerstone of any good friendship.

    You're dead to me now.

    I'm proud of myself today.

Friday's are my 'get home from work and flop in front of the tv' days. That's if I don't end up going to the local pub for a few drinks with my workmates.

I tend to not be in the mood to cook, and sometimes end up reaching for the take-away menu and the phone.

I was serously tempted to earlier.... I very nearly did. Then I cooked my dinner instead.
Had a couple of glasses of wine but I feel glad I didn't cave to temptation.

Im not being funny mate but that isnt the best advice, diet is the most important thing like I said earlier you could lose the weight from just eating properly and sitting around all day due to you metabolism.

Perfect diet plus regular excercise even just a walk every day = results.

    thats where i disagree.

ive never "lost" sufficient weight by eating healthy or cutting down. ive just maintained or lost bits.

whereas if you spend 2 hours a day for 3 or 4 weeks jogging, on an exercise bike or a rowing machine, you will see it drop even if you go home and have stick to your regular meals.

but then again, most people tend not to exercise when trying to lose weight tbh.

Im not so sure I think your body burns 2300 calories a day from just sitting around so if you can keep your calories below that you'll be losing weight but obviously people have different metabolisms.

I have a few mates that train as hard as me down the gym and harder some of them, play football you name it but cant lose weight at all and thats 4 or 5 days down the gym and loads of cardio either playing football or boxing.

Basically you have to be burning more calories than your eating and if you dont keep your calories down its going to take a lot of excercise to bring your weight down.

I do agree that if you can do that sort of intense workouts everyday you can afford to diet less but you wont get the maximum results from your excercise and also how many people are willing to jog or cycle for 2 hours a day?

    Congrats reddmen.

It'll probably slow down a little bit after this, but as long as it goes in the right direction is what matters!

The faster you lose it, the more difficult it is to keep off.

Think about it. The weight you need to lose didn't suddenly pile on in the space of a few weeks. It creeps on over a long period. So it's better to have a slow and steady weight lose.

That way it stays more stable when you reach your goal weight.

i bet you're a skinny guy though. i cant imagine you having weight problems if your not losing weight after that daily routine...

I'd like to add on to this, if you exercise over a period of say 10 weeks, loose x amount of weight, then suddenly become injured and can't exercise, your weight won't pile on as quick and your muscle retention will be better than someone who goes on a "quick fix" exercise routine e.g. burning themselves out for 3 weeks, then get injured. REMEMBER exercise is supposed to be sustained and carried out throughout life, not just "I want to loose weight and then not exercise no more".

I'm not sure I'd reccomend this option for everybody but my Girlfriend is on the Cambridge Diet, its pretty extreme but she's lost two dress sizes and a total of over 2 stone in 5 weeks.

It consists of drinking three shakes a day (or soups or porridge) and the principal is that the shakes contain everything your body needs but the body starts eating the fat reserves for energy.

TBH, i've read over some of the posts above and think the better option is to eat little meals more often and make sure you keep active. At least you won't be saddled with the death breath that the Cambridge diet gives you.

Right, I've got a problem and I think everyone should know about it because I think I'm that important.

I was following the Slim Fast diet as it worked very well a couple of years ago and I'm just really trying to get back into the swing of things again.

I was going well, feeling a bit bored from all the milkshakes and meal bars but I was coping okay. I go to the gym for an hour everyday, the exercise I'm doing isn't too strong but it's sustained, if you know what I mean.

Today however I woke up at 5:30 as I usually do but I was ridiculously tired, nauseous and light-headed. When I got to uni and I walked to one of my seminars I fell up the stairs... and when I was walking out of that seminar I fell down the stairs.

I know it's St Paddy's Day but I didn't even touch a drop of alcohol!!

If its similar to the shakes and bars that my gf has then there are very little calories in what you are eating. I think they recommend you don't exercise for any length of time.

My g/f had something similar were she walked to the bus station (10 minute strole) and felt weak/dizzy/ill when she got there. She's just got the hang of what she can do and what she can't do, I guess it would be the same for you.

Try laying off the exercise for the moment and get in touch with the slim fast rep/helpline for advice. I'm sure they will tell you approx the same thing.

Of course it could be just a bug or something like that.

The best thing to do is cut out foods with high levels of saturated fats, the fats that are very difficult to remove and exercise a few hours a week. With hard cardiovascular the weight will fall off of you.
