No worries dooks, Woolton, Allerton, Mossley Hill and some parts of Aigburth are all easy commuting distance from Garston with some good schools etc as well. Again as I said to ayles, keep us posted if you are seriously considering it and I may be able to help. I work in education so have a decent idea for help with schools etc

Depends what you want, and its close enough to travel by car, train, bus, or taxi anywhere with more night life, if that's what you want if its pubs it has 15 odd , 5/6 resturants, gyms, loads of shops. I've lived here for 30 odd years and it great town.

It all depends what your after, if its a good place for kids and very central for NHS jobs.

Having worked all over the county Wirral is handily placed for public transport into Liverpool. It is a longer journey to get to the more northern parts of Merseyside like Southport and Kirkby. But then Cheshire and North Wales are within easier reach as well from the Wirral. And you might bump into Rafa whilst he's out and about round these parts

I don't know where you live, you have not mentioned it.
We have all talked about various places. I've spoke about Formby, that doesn't mean I live there.

It's north Liverpool, close to Ormskirk and Aintree at opposite sides of the A59
Grew up in Maghull, moved away 22 years ago! Was only 14 but got fond memories of the place!

that's the most important bit really; kids and wife, if i have a gym and my bike and somewhere to ride it i'm a happy bunny - i don't drink so i'm not bothered about pubs so i'm looking for a balance. my eldest is 16 and leaving school, my others are 14 & 12 so need a good secondary school

bit of a tough jigsaw to solve so thanks for the contributions they are great.

am off over to the Wirral today to have a look at some areas then a few people i know and in here have mentioned crosby and maghull areas so i've need to check out.

    thanks, ayles

Ayles, just seen this..I live in Greasby area and find it very central for most things. There are regular bus services through to Liverpool and is really handy for the M53 . The major Hospital is Wirral University Teaching Hospital (AKA Arrowe Park hospital just 5-10 minutes away , and also Clatterbridge Hospital 10 mins down the M53. House prices are variable but you could get something very nice for your budget and Schools are very good in the area.(we still have Grammar schools here!)
There is also Hoylake, West Kirby(beach) and Heswall for shops and some really fabulous restaurants and pubs. A big attraction is its ease of access for Northwales and Snowdonia and all the delights there. Also only half an hour to Anfield through the mersey Tunnel..and I can tell you where to park!
The Wirral is great I love it here.

yeah; left lincolnshire this morning in the driving rain so it was a good 'sell' for the area to be able to look round in lovely sunshine

kinda hit me driving through the tunnel the magnitude of what we're contemplating like moving the entire family 150 miles - bit scary but we're all talking openly about it which when i say i have kids of 16, 14, 12 that's quite good for us !

gutted i never saw one scally though
