I do picspams sometimes, and in an attempt to get all my friends to watch this show I picked nineteen favourite scenes to show them how awesome it is. I thought that might be a little overkill here, but I am always trying to make people see the light, so I narrowed it down to six (well, now seven) scenes to share with you.

    Take-off before D-Day - Visually stunning scene.

Taking Carentan - Of the battle scenes, Carentan is my - well, 'favourite' sounds wrong, but I guess that's what it is. Tense and chaotic, and also great looking.

Liberating Eindhoven - It's nice to see them have a little bit of fun.

Heading for Bastogne - I'm physically incapable of watching this scene without crying. If you've seen the show, you may understand why.

Julian's death - This was the first scene I ever saw. Came across it on the telly one night, changed the channel, and a few years later when I watched the series I recognised it immediately.

Speirs takes over from the useless Dike, and it is glorious - Ronald Speirs: the definition of badass. You'd think this bit was dramatised for the show, but the man actually ran all the way through the German lines, and then back again.

Finding the camp - Possibly the toughest scene to watch in the entire series.

So, yeah. If you haven't watched it, do.

If the "i" was replaced with an "e" you would have convinced me.

*sigh* Well, I guess I should've included that one.

The scene where the Major Winters receives info from his recce fellas of an SS company at rest along the banks of a canal. Tells his troops to run over open ground with only the dyke as cover from view but not until he`d done the first 150 - 200 yards on his own! Reaches the top of the dyke & starts giving the SS the good news, just as the Germans start to get organised the rest of the company arrive to press open the attack again.

The attack on the 88mm`s, this is still taught as a text book "how to do" operation at West Point, he was a liuetenant when he did this.

The interviews of the veterans as old fellas can still choke me up no matter how many times i watch them.

The man could have & probably should have received the Medal Of Honour for at least one of those actions.

Winters died earlier this year, his family kept his funeral secret because of the amount of people that would`ve turned up, RIP Richard Winters, a humble, gracious, brave leader of men, the stuff legends are made of.

Great show. Very powerful stuff. Discovering the concentration camp for the first time and the last episode of them riding victoriously into Hitler's abandoned base stand put but every episode has its great moments.

He didn't really 'star' but he did very well as his character.

Agreed. I think the main guy in it hosted an episode of Have I got news for you.

Damien Lewis? Yes, I think you may be right.

It's so much better than The Pacific though.

Really must get Sky Atlantic. Sky must have got dozens of new customers off that one channel.

It is, I was a bit gutted with that, excellent at times but nowhere near the same level of feeling you get for the Band Of Brothers

Preciesly, it's hard to explain but I definitely had more affinity with the characters in BoB.

yeah, I think the characters were just better acted maybe, more in depth on screen where you didn't ever quite get that to that level with The Pacific. The story parts outside of the war and fighting in The Pacific weren't too well scripted out maybe, didn't quite feel it.

The last episode where they interview the real Garnier always gets me. They cast him very well I think.

Yes, you're quite right. Maybe because we followed the recruits through training, through England to D-day it was easier to relate.

Also, I know more about the battle for Europe than the Pacific, so I recognised more cities, towns, battles and events in BoB.

Certainly one of my favourite characters.

Yeah, I agree. I think it was the fact that we followed Easy Company all the time, while The Pacific jumped between the characters. The bond that the guys in Easy had translated so well.

Frank John Hughes was utterly, utterly perfect as Guarnere. Even when there weren't any names to tell you who the veterans were during the interviews, I knew immediately who he was. The actor nailed that performance.

He really was one of a kind. If anyone is interested, the cast are doing a pretty amazing thing this summer/autumn - they're jumping out of moving planes to raise money for the Richard Winters Leadership Project.

Random fun fact - the guy who played Doc Roe supports Liverpool.

Yeah definately my favourite character and a great performance. The casting director must of been over the moon when they found him to play Guarnere.

Spiers was another one of my favourites.

They sure lucked out. Hughes wrote the foreword to Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron's book, and told a funny little story about how he called Bill before his audition to talk to him, trying to get an advantage by having spoken to the man. Bill laughed, wished him luck but said he didn't think Hughes would get it, because another guy had come up to visit him and seemed perfect. Well, we know how that turned out!

Speirs... I wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley, and I definitely wouldn't take a cigarette from him. But he was one hell of a leader, too.

Eugene Roe was pretty amazing - imagine having to rush out into open fire the moment someone shouted for a medic. I never knew the medics didn't even carry weapons. The episode that centered on him, Bastogne, is one of my favourites.

Didn't know that. Have some rep. It makes you wonder what the other guy was like?

Bastogne is definately my favourite episode.

Wait how many episodes of the series are there in total??

I bought the box set years ago (before all this blue ray nonsense ) and the last episode i recall was when they move through Hitlers "house"

I dont recall any proper interviews or anything to close out the show (bar the little snippets at the start and end of every episode)

I dont have the box set around me at the minute so am unable to check if there was a bonus disk or something

Yeah, I wonder who it was!

He has some great stories. Bill and Babe came to visit the set while they were shooting and Hughes was picking them up at the airport - Bill just shot him a quick "Hey, kiddo!" and rushed past him on his crutches. Babe explained that he had to have a cigarette and flirt with the pretty girls before anything else. Eighty years young! Apparently they drank most of the cast members under the table while they were there. I definitely recommend their book, it's great.

(Can you tell I'm a bit of an Easy company fangirl?)

Thanks for the rep, have some back for liking the show.

ETA - Just the ten episodes. But there was a bonus documentary with more interviews.
