Starblind was going to start an all American Sports thread soon. You stole his thunder Bondred.

Anyway can someone tell me what the hell is happening with this lockout situation please? Are we going to have a delayed start of the season?

Talks are ongoing. I have no idea what the outcome will be.

Drafts were in April mate, I think as things stand none of those drafted can be signed to contracts until the 'lockout' (a players strike) is over. At the minute talks are taking place in Minneopolis and NFL.com are hoping for a conclusion in the next 2 weeks.

Ok. They better sort it out. I'll be irritated if the season's delayed because of players/teams being greedy.

I'll start my own anyway. It will be the bestest, even if I'm the only one posting in it!

To be honest if these lockouts continue then it would have basically been the 2011 NHL thread

Can someone explain to me what a lockout exactly is. It sounds like a huge pain in the arse.

A lockout (in sport) is where the season is put on hold and there isn't any matches played because of labour disputes; usually between the players and the league. It's generally when one of these is expiring and one needs to be renegotiated.

Neither side wants to lesson their demands I'm guessing so it's just a stalemate.

Sportsmen forgetting for who and why they started playing in the first place, because of money? Surely not.

Thing is I can't understand owners advocating a lockout. Who'd want their 50/60/80/100-thousand capacity stadium sat empty for a year? What kind of money does that make them?

I know surely they'd be losing some serious revenue if they don't host games? That's why I'm quietly confident that the players will get their way when the owners/league cave in to their demands.

Just for the sake of me not having to bother my arse to sell cards for my Uni , i hope the season doesn't go ahead

But, in all seriousness. I don't understand what the players are after. They are on ridicilous wages but after more?

    ^^^^^^^

Firms hired by the players unions to lobby members of the U.S. Congress on their behalf, have claimed that a work stoppage could potentially cost each NFL city $160 million in lost business.

    A lot of dough indeed.

With Bondred's consent I might request that this becomes the US Sports thread that I was going to start later anyway. Would mean the title being changed
