Arsenal seems to be closing on Juan Mata.

Sorry to break your hearts lads but I dun think Mata is our marquee signing this summer.

Doesn't look like we'll be making a big money signing.

    It's seems Comolli was wrong.

    There's still time though.

I got to be honest I think I would rather a centre half, someone like Cahill

The biggest annoyance is the reported figure of between £13.5 - £15m fee for Mata !!!!

Cant for the life of me understand why we would spend such money on Henderson and Adam when we have good central midfield options yet miss out on a quality wide player for a relatively small fee ... disappointing

    What a dissapointing transfer window.

Not the owners fault, theyve given kenny and comoli over 100m to spend since theyve came in. Its down to Comoli ro Kenny, whoever identified the need to have 11 centre mids and Andy Carroll.

Suarez does soften the blow quite a lot though.

Well, Arsenal are in the Champions League. I'm sure we could have got him if we were in it, hopefully next year we are and we can attract more players.

Absolute nonsense of a price. Tabloid garbage. Mata would command a fee in the region of 25m.

If he has "rejected" us then fair enough, i can totally accept/ understand that.
If we either havent made a formal approach or have spent the money elsewhere then I think that is a huge mistake.

    big money?

the fee's i have see reported for Mata is between £13.5million-£19million, (lower than we paid for Downing)

I'm chuffed with the signings we've made, and would expect more next season (providing we qualify for the Champions League)

Im guessing the same tabloid garbage informs you of the £25 fee he would command unless you are acting on behalf of Valencia or Arsenal?

Guess we will see the "official" fee in the coming days

You mean like the official fee for henderson that was 20m even though DC said it wasnt even close to such amount

Im not totally convinced he will come to the Prem and set it alight but if that price is correct it doesnt represent a huge risk. No doubt the man has talent but it might just take him a little time to adjust, time we probably havnt got to give him. Its the only reason I can think of as to why we aren't that interested.

Saying that though it could be the complete opposite e.g Suárez, Hernandez, Torres etc in which case we will look slightly silly

Right so basically you can decide what the amount is yourself to suit the given agenda

Cool, in that case Mata is going for £30m and only wanted to play for a team in the Champions League, thanks mate.

Agree, we should have put the henderson money towards a centre half and a left full-back.

    Bleh.

    Think of it like this.

Next year when we are in the champions league we can sign Iker Munian who will have a cracking season in La Liga this year.

Or even go and get Eden Hazard who is undoubtadly the better player.

P.S. I tip Athletic for champions league position.

What im basically saying is that even though we may never know the true fee for mata you dont have to be a genius to know it will be more than 15m or so surely? Id imagine that ballague chap will have an idea roughly as hes pretty good with this sort of stuff.

Yeah fair point, however i do wish we had signed a few of the players Ballague has said we have been in for over the years ... such is life.
Sure downing will prove to be a tidy bit of business anyway

Yeah the Downing deal im very happy with i must admit. I remember the Riera days and even though he isnt in Downings league just the balance he gave us on the left made all the difference to our side. Id of loved Mata here but it isnt to be and at this moment in time i dont blame Mata for choosing Arsenal, they are in the CL and for most players it is the holy grail of competitions

If Roy signs Carroll, Henderson, Adam and Downing for a combined £77m and doesn't make an attempt to get Mata for around £13m what would the reaction be? Hmmmm....

we have too many midfielders to feel sad about loosing one, even though its someone as good as mata....but i would be very sad if we lose our lb targets and if we dont get a quality backup strikers.....

Just another name to add to the list of players we will talk about in years to come and ask "why?" ... Why didn't we make more of an effort to at least try to get them.

This lad is going to be fantastic and has huge re-sale value even if he comes up short in England.

And if Newcastle had agreed to keep their mouths shut Comolli would have told us we paid nowhere near £35m for Carroll.

i agree with this statement....13.5 mil for mata shows the football world is mad...i mean he screams quality everytime i see him and lescott goes for 25 mil.....

    hmmmm hmmmm....

Under Roy these players you mentioned would never agree to join.

Roy said also that HE was NOT INTERESTED IN SIGNING SUAREZ:

Ronaldinho and Suarez are players who we have never even thought about but I would think there is not a manager in the Premier League who has not given Ashley Young a thought at some stage or another
