Dailymail - 'It’s too early for us to start talking about winning the league,' said Henry. 'In my opinion Manchester United are the ones to beat. They have a good squad, and look really good. Our main goal is to qualify for the Champions League. If we don’t it would be a major disappointment."

Technically, we did not spend more than £100m on transfers since January even though some may argue that we have to include the £58m spent on both Suarez and Carroll. Let's not forget the amount we get for Torres and Babel. After spending more than £45m in summer for the additions of Downing (£20m), Henderson (£16m), Adam (£9m) and Doni, the goal set by the owner is REALISTIC - qualifying for the Champions League rather than winning the Premier League!

All said, that does not mean Liverpool is surrendering early in the bid to win the title! Imo, Liverpool still has a very good opportunity to win it if we concentrate and pool our resources on the Premier League while blooding youngsters in both the FA and Carling regardless of the results. Apart from that, the signing of a good LB and a good CB will surely make a positive impact on the current team.

ive said it once ill say it again. we have the squad right now with maybe 1 - 2 more additions in defence to challenge for the title up until january otherwise how are we going to finish top 4 ? once jan comes around and we are around 1st 2nd etc the owners will spend for a big second half of the year to go out and get the title. keys we must start well and we must be hanging around the top come january otherwise it will be hard to get top 4 or the title.

The papers are not talking about net spend, so they won't take into account the money we've received from transfers out of the club.

John Henry is quite right, I think it is far too early to be talking about title challenges and triumphs, we need to aim for steady progress and qualification for next seasons Champions League would be good progress. Anything else is an added bonus as far as the league is concerned.

The man speaks sense though doesn't he Boris?

If we win the league then fair enough, I'll be chuffed to bits, I'll probably cry, shout, swear, scream and fornicate with myself on the toilet. However, I think it is sensible to gradually progress and as long as we are doing that and do not stagnate and regress backwards then I haven't got a problem with not winning the league next season, though it would be nice to win one of the domestic English trophies.

We are not winning the league.

People need to stop mentioning it.

Sure, ambition is good but not unrealistic aims.

Key point: Liverpool is in a re-building process and that means we need to make progress every season. Looking at how open the title race was last season, combined with Liverpool's form in the 2nd half of the season, we can all see Liverpool challenging for the title, however regardless of being in the the title race or not, our first objective is Top 4 finish. If we are in a good position to win the title then of course we can go for it. I see it like this over the coming seasons:

    This season (2011/12)- Top4 3rd or 4th for us= champions league football
+ a trophy. I think we will win the FA Cup, I have a gut feeling

summer window- CL football means more money and better attraction to come to LFC+ my favourite part of being in CL- SPECIAL EUROPEAN NIGHTS AT ANFIELD RETURN

(2012/13 season- Top 2-either champions or 2nd (if not champions this season then definetly the next)

    Absolute realistic.

Well said. We shouldn't hope to win the Premier League, should just admit that we are not as strong as ManU,Chelsea or City just yet. Would be a huge huge result if we could get in the top4 somehow as well. Anything more obviously would be a bonus.

I think over the last few years LFC fans
favourite saying has been "next year".

I'd love nothing more than for us to win the league
    but realistically not this year.
I've said all summer that top four has to be priority this year and the most possible. I've no doubt that we can acheive this under Kenny and a couple more signings.

All I can say is be patient and look forward to an exciting 3 seasons!!!!

if we can hang in till xmas then who knows? If we are comfortably in the top 4 by then it could be a great chance for us.

If we can be among the Top 4 in December/January, it could be in our favour since many of the Top 4 teams will still be distracted by CL or Europa!

Takes the pressure of K.Kenny, and it makes sense to not be coming out saying we will win the league and end up not doing so. Let's see how things pan out.....

After signing Aguero, Mancini still wants to sign 1-2 players.

Mancity is serious about winning the CL and PL but football is more than just spending load of money even though it does help in signing some of the best players available. Winning in Istanbul and coming close second in PL only shows that spending BIG is no guarantee.

I believe Liverpool (Kenny and Comolli) are assembling a FUNCTIONAL team rather than a flamboyant team! And, I believe they are allocating some spare allocation for January.

Surely, by now, Kenny will prioritize....

Between winning FA and/or Carling and getting back into the Top 4....

One of the many great things about Dalglish is he gets the best out of the players that you have.

When Rafa won the Champions League, not many of us saw that coming.

On paper we're still a couple of players short. The other big Clubs have made some quality signings so will be at least as strong in the season to come.

If we get off to a good start, have a bit of luck with injuries then who knows...

Hodgson should take a look at this to see how a profesional handles fan expectations.

He might take a little slack from those who aren't thinking straight, but most fans will realise he's 100% right.

The fact is - if we win it, they'll all be heroes. But he doesn't want undue expectations from the media and fans on Kenny and the players.

I'm not confident it will happen unless a few more transfers are done this summer

As it stands, I think we have a great chance for 4th.

If we have signed our LB and also go on to sign a forward and CB, I will expect 4th

If Henry really wants Liverpool back in CL, he should $pend in January, not wait until summer.

We have the lowest number of goals scored. We definitely need a striker and a winger.

I disagree, we are creating plenty of chances, we need a clinical finisher that's all in my opinion.
