SoontobeChampions wins on tie-break.
With many home wins over this weekends fixtures, predicting aways and draws were slightly more challenging! However, Tony and Cumbrian didn't seem to have many problems as they went toe to toe for a place in the next round. These two players were actually involved in the joint highest scoring tie of the round, with a total of 22 points between them. However, it was Tony who came out on top as he correctly predicted just one extra away result than his GG captain, Cumbrian. Without doubt, this was the biggest shock of the round as there are a huge 22 places separating the players in the league. Whilst Cumbrian still has the league to focus on, it looks like the FA Cup could be Tony's best chance of winning a piece of silverware this season! This tie has since become void, click http://forums.liverpoolfc.tv/threads...17#post7124217 for more info.
Next, in a battle of two players who've been in the top 10 for the majority of the season, it was last years league runner-up, Tardelli59 who edged past Baby1 to advance into the next round. In truth, Baby1 struggled to hit a decent score and this ultimately cost him a chance at FA Cup glory. In contrast, Tardelli59 scored a solid 10 points and is now starting to get into his stride, just when it matters as he fights for glory on all fronts!
SirStiffler's quest to defend his FA Cup title is now over as he comfortably lost out to LightningLucas. We are now guaranteed a new Pools FA Cup champion following SirStiffler's exit. One man who will feel he can claim that title is LightningLucas after he posted a decent score of 11 points, demonstrating that he can turn up for the big occasion. By predicting two more results than SirStiffler including a draw, LL ranked 4th out of 16 in this round, and could definitely be a dark horse in this years competition.
Surprisingly, there was only one tie which needed the tie-break question to separate the players. SoontobeChampions and FinnanFOREngland both performed below-par and could only muster 7 points each, meaning this was the lowest scoring tie, excluding Groovstar's no-show against Jayfire. However, it was SoontobeChampions who advanced as he predicted 12 goals to be scored on Saturday, in comparison to FinnanFOREngland's prediction of 13. Unsurprisingly, this meant SoontobeChampions advanced with the lowest score across all the winners of their respective ties.
Rianaldo
9 vs
7 Skidzy
(3 homes, 3 aways) - (3 homes, 2 aways)
Groovstar
0 vs
9 Jayfire
(N/A) - (2 homes, 2 aways, 1 draw)
Shmar
13 vs
9 SonOfSid
(4 homes, 3 aways, 1 draw) - (2 homes, 2 aways, 1 draw)
Jelly5id
6 vs
14 GunnerWinTheLeague
(4 homes, 1 away) - (4 homes, 2 aways, 2 draws)
In another intriguing tie, Rianaldo came up against Skidzy, two players who have impressed over the last season or two. Unfortunately for Skidzy, it was he who just missed out on a spot in the next round as Rianaldo correctly predicted just one extra result than his rival, giving him a total of 9 points. This score was one of the lower totals managed by the winners of the ties but Rianaldo won't be complaining! For Skidzy, another title has slipped out of his grasp and it seems that European success is the only option left for him now!
Jayfire's record of never being eliminated from a cup competition goes on after he was paired with the only player who didn't show up. As a result, Jayfire easily disposed of Groovstar with a 9 point round, and he now has a 1 in 8 chance of adding the 2012 FA Cup trophy to his collection. Jayfire is the actually the only player in the entire game who is fighting it out for all trophies, as the other Doubles finalists, DarkStrike, SinglishScouser and Boston-Sox have all been eliminated already. He is also now the highest ranked player left in this years competition.
When the draw was made, Shmar vs SonOfSid seemed to be the least attractive tie as both were struggling in the league. However, they certainly didn't disappoint as it was the joint highest scoring tie of the round. Both players have already proved they can perform in the cups but it was Shmar who excelled more in this tie as he was the second highest scorer with a superb total of 13 points. It all goes to prove that anything can happen in the cups, and Shmar's fairytale dream of winning the cup goes on.
Last but not least, it was the eagerly anticipated tie between cup master Jelly5id, and everyone's favourite Gumbot, GunnerWinTheLeague. Although Jelly5id is 14 places ahead of his rival, GunnerWinTheLeague pulled off a huge shock to crush Jelly5id in this tie, becoming the rounds highest scorer in the process. In contrast, Jelly5id was the lowest scorer, alongside close friend Baby1, and it was little surprise to see him get knocked out as a consequence. Gunner's excellent score of 14 points ensured that he ripped up the form book, and he must now be wondering how he can't replicate this form in the league. His victory caps off an amazing FA Cup round which saw several cup shocks.
The players advancing into the last 8 are:
SoontobeChampions
GunnerWinTheLeague
Jayfire
Tardelli59
LightningLucas
Rianaldo
Shmar
Tony/Cumbrian
Draw coming within a day or two.
