With about 10 rounds to go, there is a real urgency for many players to pick up as many points as possible. But, round 28 marked yet another disastrous round as many players struggled to even hit double figures. Unpredictable results meant that scores were quite low, meaning there was little movement in the league. At the battle at the top, Madforit1 retained his position but his lead was cut in half to 1 point by former leader Hitmanlfc who is determined to claw back that top spot. Out of the four main competitors at the top, Hitmanlfc was the highest scorer, but still didn't gain much ground. Cumbrian and Jayfire fell a further point off the pace but are still comfortably within range. As a result, the title could still end up in any of the top four's hands, and it is now going to be an intriguing end to a very competitive season!
The top four's poor rounds meant there was an opportunity for the chasing pack to gain some ground. Unfortunately, they failed to make any huge advantage as Rianaldo and Tardelli59 could only gain a point on the leader. The duo were also caught this week by SoontobeChampions who was the highest scorer out of the top 10! Proceeding them are Jelly5id, LFCsince73 and Tuta who all managed 6 points this week to remain in the top 10, whilst extending the gap over the players below them. In particular, Baby1 is now lying 6 points off the top 10 after struggling badly this round as he could only muster 4 points. Fortunately for him, NACNUD could also only manage 4 points so they remained in 11th and 12th respectively.
The battle for a top half finish is hotting up as Skidzy pulled a great score out of the bag to push himself above the half-way point and leapfrog 2 players in the process. With Skidzy being the highest scorer of the round, it was little surprise that DarkStrike and LightningLucas slipped a place, with the latter now falling out of the top half, despite an solid 8 point round. LL is still, however, looking over his shoulder at FinnanFOREngland who is only 4 points adrift, whilst HatrikBerger is hoping for one final push to get himself into the top half. He moved up another 2 places this week to keep up his great form.
After an impressive round last time, Boston-Sox pulled off the common mistake of not turning up the next one! Both himself and SinglishScouser dropped a few places after failing to show, giving players below them the perfect opportunity to drag themselves closer to the duo. The main main to do this was RedCherries who returned to action with a 10 point round, which also consolidated his place in the top 20.
Whilst RedCherries maintained a strong hold over the players below him, Shmar ensured that he kept within touching distance of the ex-leader, with the gap still just 6 points. He also overtook GunnerWinTheLeague who struggled yet again and still can't make that final step into the top 20. 4ever's highest scoring round meant she cut the gap on pretty much every above her whilst extending her lead over SirStiffler to 9 points. Tony failed to turn up, meaning his excellent round last week was all for nothing. He is not in any danger though of finishing last as SonOfSid is still 29 points off the GG creator despite being the lowest scorer, whilst Yowa is 45 points adrift after failing to show up. He may be took off the league table if he regularly doesn't post.

Champions League Last 16 2nd Leg Update + Final Scores (Second Leg Scores in Brackets)

RedCherries completed an extremely comfortable victory as Groovstar failed to post yet again. Regardless of that, RedCherries still scored an exceptional 7 points out of a possible 8, the highest score of the round. As a result, RC kept up his momentum in this competition and has arguably been one of this years strongest players in this competition, proven by the fact that he was the overall top scorer!. He'll have to up his game next time round though as he comes up against an active player!
The battle of the Garcians resumed this round with NACNUD going into the tie 2 points up. With other competitions falling out of her grasp, NACNUD proved that she's not willing to give this one up without a fight! She marched into the next round after matching Boston-Sox's score of 3 points, meaning she advances with a score of 8 points. It was not a great round by both players but NACNUD just did enough to edge out the legend and seal her place in the last 8, and could now potentially be a dark horse for this years Champions League.
Going into the tie, Shmar and LFCsince73 were locked together on 4 points and there was little separating the pair once again but LFCsince73 just edged out his rival by a single point, scoring 6 points overall. However, the main difference in this tie was LFCsince73's ability to correctly predict Arsenal's victory over AC Milan. With all other predictions the same, Shmar went crashing out within the first week of the 2nd leg, but can count himself quite unlucky after producing a decent round himself. He will now switch his attention to this weeks FA Cup clash with SoontobeChampions as he seeks to rescue a disastrous season.
The highest scorers from the previous round pitted their wits against each other once again, and just like last time round, Hitmanlfc outscored Cumbrian and advanced overall with a score of 12 points to 9. The two title contenders failed to score as impressively as in the first leg, but ultimately, it was Cumbrian's dreadful score of 2 points which made the difference. Consequently, Hitmanlfc will continue to fly the Garcian flag with NACNUD in the next round, whilst Cumbrian has another title contender to deal with at the weekend, meeting Jayfire in the FA Cup. It's now make or break for our potential title winner!

Champions League holder SoontobeChampions crashed out of the competition at the last 16 stage, losing to long-time rival, Jelly5id. This result is now the second time this year that Jelly5id has knocked STBC out of a G&C cup! There was no separating the players in the 2nd leg as both scored 4 points each but this allowed Jelly5id to sneak into the last 8. Having wiped away the deficit last week, the tie came down to the bonus question last night but a 75th Chelsea goal gave Jelly5id the victory and the bragging rights over his fellow GGPL regular.
As expected, Tardelli59 sealed a very easy victory despite being outscored by SirStiffler this round. Both players scored reasonably well although SirStiffler's great score of 6 points wasn't enough to wipe out the 4 point deficit from the first leg. Tardelli is now in the last 8 of both the Champions League and the FA Cup and must surely now fancy his chances of claiming his first ever piece of silverware. The joint highest scorer from the group stage marches on, and will prove to be a difficult challenge for any player.
Championship leader Madforit1 faced a huge task of overturning a 1 point deficit as he came up against league struggler 4ever. However, he became the only player in this competition to come from behind to win, and he did it in style. The leader outscored 4ever by 4 points after scoring 6 points, which sent him safely into the next round. 4ever must be ruing her missed opportunity as she was so close to pulling off the upset of the round. Her disappointing round of 2 points yet again demonstrated her failure to generate any real consistency this season!
Last but not least, GunnerWinTheLeague disposed of HatrikBerger for the second month running to set himself up with an excellent chance of surpassing his run to the semi-final last season. Gunner scored a solid 5 points and is now starting to develop a real passion for the cup competitions as he moved into the last 8 of yet another cup! Saying that, he had little competition this week as HatrikBerger failed to put up a fight as he didn't turn up, and this caps off a disappointing few months for the newcomer.

Yet again, there were a lot of byes and no-shows, actually a few more than last round so there was little competition for many players in the 2nd leg! At least we've now disposed of the non-active players so the competition really starts next round!
Like last time round, there were only two ties where both players turned up. First of all, Baby1 aimed to overturn a 1 point deficit and edge out Tuta. Both players have been competing for a top 10 finish in the league with Tuta currently coming out on top, and just like the league, Tuta managed to maintain his lead over Baby1 and progress into the next round. Both players struggled to hit top form as they could muster 2 points each, but Tuta won't care one bit as he still now has a great chance of being the first ever player to defend a Pools title! Last years Champions league finalist, Baby1 has now been knocked out of all competitions and must focus on snatching a top 10 spot away from his conqueror!
Yowa was added to the next tie as he came face to face with FinnanFOREngland who scored 2 points in the first leg. Despite only answering one question, FinnanFOREngland got his prediction spot on and this actually secured his place in the next round. Yowa's debut round in Europe was average to say the least, and couldn't gain 2 points on FFE despite answering 7 more points than his rival! FFE actually advanced with the lowest score out of all players in the last 16 and must up his game as the competition heads into the quarter-finals.
The highest scorer of the round by quite a distance was Tony with an exceptional score of 7 points. Unfortunately for him, this score counted for nothing as he was already through! Nevertheless, his score ensured that he generated some much needed momentum, and could be a real threat in the next round. Whilst Tony was the highest scorer of the round, LightningLucas and DarkStrike picked up the honour of being the highest scorers overall, finishing with 11 points. Only SonOfSid managed to get anywhere near that total, as a 4 point round meant he advanced with 10 points. Unsurprisingly, all 3 players moved into the next round with ease as all of their opponents failed to show in the 2nd leg.
The final two players who make up the last 8 are established players Skidzy and Jayfire who have both flourished in the league in previous years, with the latter also proving quite difficult to beat in cup competitions. Just like many of the other quarter-finalists, the duo's opponents failed to show, meaning little effort was required in disposing of RotationPolicy and LucasLeiva. Whilst Jayfire is the highest ranked player left and probably now the favourite to win the competition, Skidzy proved that he can be beaten as he outscored him by a point! Both could well cup against each other next round, but Jayfire, without doubt, is the player to watch out for in the draw!
