This was on the pack page of The Mirror today. I wonder what are your guys thoughts on it.

For me it is no shock at all, he is a top class player and has done well for us this season he has shown he can easily replace Johnsonfor us so why is it a shock for him to replace Johnson for England?

I hope he does get a call up, the experience and confidence boost will make him even better.

He played a handful of games and did so well that he is now considered a genuine threat to an England international player's starting place, that the club paid £17m for and is the 5th/6th best paid defender in world football.

That's how well he has done and he fully deserves it.

He is a bit under rated by other fans (not us) and it is fair for him to get called. Hope Jose will be called soon, he deserved it tbh

    Totally deserves it.

Our first real, genuine quality player to breakthrough from our youth ranks for a long time. Great future ahead of him.

I think he deserves it and dont see why its a shock.
Kyle Walker and Tom Cleverly barely deserved their call-ups!

Maybe, ignoring the fact that he has probably been the best English RB for over a season now, it would be less of a shock had Capello not, quite recently, stated that Kelly was a player that interested him. I think it was just before he got injured

Reinforces the view of those who rate him that he could as easily be a RB as CB.

However, I think it might be foolhardy to call him up with injury concerns hanging over him. He's started three games this season, missed 10 in a row on the tail end of last season having started eight in a row prior to that.

All I can say is "handle with care", unfortunately he could do a job for England and suffer an injury as a direct/indirect result but England will only care that the job is done His long term future is potentially at stake

Shock? A little - he hasn't had major game time, though he has been fantastic when he has played.

I'm delighted for him if he is in the team. He is a top quality player and Glen Johnson needs to be very worried for both club and country I think.

If thats true about Glen being the 6th best paid defender that is unbeliavable. He's not even in the top 20 defenders in the prem let alone the world

I'd imagine he'll definitely be in the squad. I just hope they don't start him.

That would **** me right off, the lad hasn't even played 90 minutes in total since coming back.

Hopefully Kenny will disuade him from going on any silly England jaunts.

Surely Gerrard playing for England can only be good for us? It will give him very much needed match fitness.

Yes he takes the risk of getting injured, but so does every other player in every other game.

No way, Kenny already said last week to "be careful with Gerrard" and that was a "friendly advice".

No we have handled Gerrard with care for months and are taking it easy with him. We dont want those animals at the England set up playing him the whole game or setting him back.

Not being negative here, but we had many other names in the past like Pacheco who in the end couldn't make it to the big stage, so I will be a bit cautious in my expectations from them.
Although I really want an attacking player to make it to the top level through our ranks.

The only thing stopping him from starting for us at the moment is match fitness. I'm pretty sure he is completely injury free, otherwise he wouldn't be playing.

And would you trust the idiots at the England setup to handle him with care? I wouldnt. They would probably play him the whole game.

Good news!! Kelly deserves a potential call up to the squad. Hope England don't injure Gerrard again by playing him longer than was agreed between club manager and Capello (see France game)

No player after being out for 6 months is able to play 90 minutes after just 3 games back. Even if they wanted to play him for the full 90, he wouldn't be able to.

A good 60 minutes would do well for him.

That wouldnt stop them. Gerrard himself has said their are plenty of other players available for England and he doesnt fancy it so that should be the end of it.
