Sorry I have not posted results from other games, been really busy with work, slowly posting

Brisbane Roar 1 V Central Coast Mariners 0

The Grand-Final rematch, teams 1 V 2 from last season , lived up to the hype of this great occasion. Sadly, Mariners (to what I predicted) let Brisbane play their Barcelona-style and sat very very deep.

The man of the match went to Mitch Nichols, a fairly young aussie midfielder, who took the game by the scruff of the neck when all else was failing.

The champions constructed a 39 pass move, slowly pushing the Mariners deeper, and a beautiful square cross led to a Nichols flying in space. He knocked it on past the keeper and hit a low shot from the corner of 6 yard box.
Unfortunately it banged off the post.

His second chance came when another long passing move led to a shot from 19 yards, top save from Matt Ryan (my fav keeper in the league). The crowd went banana's in the stands ...

    HALF-TIME 0 - 0. Possession > 63% for Brisbane.

2nd half was the same story - but Nichols got a deserved goal with a cute finish. What stunned me were the managerial decisions from Mariners manager (Graham Arnold, former Australian assistant). He failed to pick their youngest, quickest and, imo, their best player. Not just starting, but even on the substitutes bench.

Anyway, Brisbane, deserved to win by about 4.

    Stay tuned

Adelaide play their first game at home this friday night, against powerhouse Melbourne Victory. Boasting the likes of Kewell, Thompson and Rojas, this will be a very difficult fixture for the home side.

Despite succumbing to a second-half goal from Glory's Billy Mehmet, there are plenty of positives to take from Sunday's game at nib Stadium, most notably the second-half performance, where The Reds really put their hosts under some severe pressure for periods. And they did so without star signing Dario Vidosic, who has struggled with a knee injury since his arrival. The good news is that coach Rini Coolen is hopeful of having him available for some of Friday's clash. He is not fully match-fit, but you might see him making an
impact from the bench; should he play, Adelaide will be in for a real shout.

Victory will head into this game hoping to go one better than in their opening fixture. While the performance was of a pleasingly high standard, they were unable to find the net. Despite the performance of their keeper, Victory certainly won't count themselves lucky to have escaped with a point. Despite not scoring, they created plenty of chances, and will be delighted with Harry Kewell's 90 minutes. Elsewhere, former Wellington Phoenix midfielder Marco Rojas was outstanding and left-back Fabio looked comfortable. The signs were certainly there to suggest that this Victory team will really be a force to be reckoned with.

Of course, there is plenty of history between United and Victory. The visitors held a 10-match winning run over Adelaide, stretching over 38 months until The Reds smashed the Melbourne side at AAMI Park last season. The 4-1 drubbing included a brace from leading scorer Sergio Van Dijk and the a red card for Kevin Muscat.

Both these sides need a win to get their seasons up and running.

    Prediction:
    Adelaide 1 - Melbourne 2

I don't support anyone specifically, but have a soft spot for Sydney because I fell in love with the city when I was out there a couple of years ago. A friend lives out in Melbourne, so he's been trying to force me to pledge my allegiance to the Victory for a while now.

I caught some highlights of that game, didn't see it live. Pretty decent for a 0-0. I love watching A-League and seeing random names from the past in their teams. Must admit, the standard is definitely much better than it was a few years ago.

Central Coast 1 V Gold Coast United 1

A very scrappy game, from beginning to end. Perhaps even the first game of the season to not have a high tenacity, high speed and attacking brilliance.
Nonetheless, both teams fought their hardest in what was a disappointing 1-1 draw.

The Mariners were expected to come out, and blow this fairly inexperienced GCU team off the park - in fact, it was far from it. From the opening whistle, Mariners were on the attack, and for the first 10 minutes seemed most likely to get a goal. They held the ball well, played out from the back, but the final ball in the final 1/3 was woeful. They wasted chances and didn't great much space. On the flipside, Gold Coast were not much better (if not worse).

Half-time allowed the managers to discuss new tactics, and it worked for Miron's men as GCU hit the lead early in 2nd half, thanks to another wonder strike by midfielder James Brown.

It looked doom and gloom for the 1.60 short priced favourites, but it was not Gold Coasts night, as the Mariners helped themselves to a high end by scoring an equaliser off a 89th min corner.

The question is, can they both play poorly again?

Yea..he definitely is. to be playing in the worst side in the league, and still showing signs of brilliant finishing and smart movement off the ball is impressive.

A-league has already eclipsed the old NSL in quality. Just actually watch the games, especially the season opener Syd V Melb and all of Brisbane's games... They will win the Asian Champions League. NSL may have had the higher crowds, but it will all change soon, once more money is put into the game - the quality of play is already higher though mate.
