Sorry I have not posted results from other games, been really busy with work, slowly posting
Brisbane Roar 1 V Central Coast Mariners 0
The Grand-Final rematch, teams 1 V 2 from last season , lived up to the hype of this great occasion. Sadly, Mariners (to what I predicted) let Brisbane play their Barcelona-style and sat very very deep.
The man of the match went to Mitch Nichols, a fairly young aussie midfielder, who took the game by the scruff of the neck when all else was failing.
The champions constructed a 39 pass move, slowly pushing the Mariners deeper, and a beautiful square cross led to a Nichols flying in space. He knocked it on past the keeper and hit a low shot from the corner of 6 yard box.
Unfortunately it banged off the post.
His second chance came when another long passing move led to a shot from 19 yards, top save from Matt Ryan (my fav keeper in the league). The crowd went banana's in the stands ...
HALF-TIME 0 - 0. Possession > 63% for Brisbane.
2nd half was the same story - but Nichols got a deserved goal with a cute finish. What stunned me were the managerial decisions from Mariners manager (Graham Arnold, former Australian assistant). He failed to pick their youngest, quickest and, imo, their best player. Not just starting, but even on the substitutes bench.
Anyway, Brisbane, deserved to win by about 4.
Stay tuned
