He is actually a good bloke off the field.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) and Hunter Sports Group (HSG) have today reaffirmed their commitment to working together for the good of the Newcastle Jets, the Hyundai A-League and football in the Hunter Valley.

The announcement follows talks that have resolved various issues related to the operation of the Hyundai A-League licence held by HSG. As a result, the Newcastle Jets under the ownership of HSG will continue to participate in the Hyundai A-League.

FFA Chairman, Mr Frank Lowy AC, and HSG Chairman, Mr Nathan Tinkler, held face-to-face talks over the weekend. Mr Lowy said the discussions were characterised by goodwill brought to the table by both parties.

“It was a good opportunity for Nathan and I to meet face-to-face and resolve the issues that had affected the relationship between FFA and HSG,” said Mr Lowy. “FFA has made some concessions in good faith in order to resolve the matters.

“When Nathan first took on the Newcastle Jets, I welcomed his commitment to running a strong and successful A-League club in Newcastle on behalf of the community of the Hunter region.

“Today, my confidence is renewed over Nathan’s personal drive to make the Jets and the Hyundai A-League successful. We agreed on a way forward that addresses the issues HSG have raised and we are now going to get on with developing the game together in a key region for football.

“With more than 10,000 Jets members and an average crowd this season over 12,000 HSG has demonstrated its ability to engage with the community and to run a successful team and club.”

Mr Tinkler said that from time to time parties in any business will have differences, but that there is now an opportunity for FFA and HSG to work together in achieving shared goals.
“Frank Lowy flew to Brisbane to meet with me face-to-face and I took that as a sign of goodwill,” said Mr Tinkler. “It was a gesture I certainly appreciated.

“I welcomed the opportunity to meet and discuss these issues in person. We now have a way forward and I remain committed to ensuring the Newcastle Jets is one of the most successful clubs in the Hyundai A-League.

“I am delighted to be able to support the Newcastle Jets on behalf of football fans in the Hunter region and to continue to build a strong relationship with the community.

“When I first made this commitment I did it on behalf of the community and I am committed to further developing football and sport in a community I grew up in and am proud of.”

We only got 1 game a week (in the middle of the night) but was always fun watching whenever the Roar played.

Actually pretty good this year. Normally I would say no chance and the ****ants would prove me wrong, but there have been a few good strokes for them this time around. Now I have said that they will bottle it.

I like watching Adelaide in the ACL though, they're the only Aussie club that takes it seriously, which is a real shame. It's their constant good form in that competition which has pretty much single handedly given us the three places. For that I think they deserve the admiration of all football fans in the country, even the Victorians!

Many thanks Codes. Yeah, it was a bit of a surprise to see the Roar's early exit. In any case, any team that knocks off Nagoya Grampus deserves some kudos. All the best to Adelaide in the coming games.

Qantas Socceroos midfielder James Troisi is reportedly close to realising a dream and joining Italian giants Juventus.

The 24-year-old is understood to be part of a deal that will bring Pescara's midfielder Marco Verratti to Juve, while Troisi is expected to be loaned to Pescara.

Juventus's sporting director Fabio Paratici met Troisi's agent in Milan's Hilton Hotel in order to find a deal for the 24-year-old Australia international, whose contract with Turkish club Kayserispor expires on June 30 following a pay dispute.

Juventus would then loan Troisi to Pescara for a season as part of the transfer for Delfini's midfielder Marco Verratti.

The move is boosted by Troisi's European heritage, as his father and mother are from Italy and Greece respectively, which allows him to be considered an European Union signing if an agreement can be reached.

In a ground-breaking deal, Melbourne Victory are set to sponsor a new Tasmanian state league and have an active say in football development on the Apple Isle.

After signing a three-year partnership with Football Federation Tasmania (FFT), the club will make a significant financial contribution to FFT’s new state-wide competition in return for naming rights – to be known as the "Victory League" – while also having a hands-on approach to the growth and development of football right across the state.

Victory will also embark on an annual pre-season tour in Tasmania, which will include games in the north and south of the state, while players and coaches will be made available for local football events as well as grass roots and community initiatives.

Two fixtures have already been confirmed, with Victory to take on a select Tasmanian XI in Hobart on August 21, followed by a pre-season match against Hyundai A-League rivals Adelaide United in Launceston on August 24.

FFT’s Elite Player Pathway will also become a feeder into Victory’s youth system.

FFT president Sean Collins said the deal was a significant boost to the game in Tasmania.

“In Melbourne Victory we have a major partner who can deliver huge benefits both on and off the field," Collins said.

“Having Victory in the state for a long stretch of time enables us to run clinics for junior footballers, visit schools, run sessions for up and coming coaches and to engage the whole football community.

Victory have also committed to playing their A-League community round fixtures in Launceston until at least the conclusion of the 2015 season, subject to FFA approval.

No it should not. I support Australia's most successful football club, South Melbourne FC. And I'm not about to go and jump on the Victory or Heart bandwagon. South till I die.

Luckily the Sydney Cove have recognised that.

you see clubs like Olympic, Knights and South Melb are seen as a club, not a franchise you see the difference? our fans get treated as fans like they should be.

A-league fans are just seen as dollars by Buckley, Lowy & co. Support your local team!!!
Could not have said it better my friend. South Melbourne will always be my club. Screw the FFA and the A-League. Clubs such as Olympic, South, Knights etc etc created football in this country and then they toss us aside like filth.

It is people like you that are only delaying the inevitable growth of A-League in this country. Stick to watching lifeless and unattractive league 2 football ... And in 20 years time come back and make a post about how big the A-League has grown.....

Who in god's name are you to judge me for supporting a club not in the A-League. How ignorant and disrespectful of you. By the way, South Melbourne are THE most successful club in Australian football and were voted Oceania club of the Century and participated against Manchester United in the inaugural FIFA World Club Championships. And they are in the VPL not League 2. Oh and the inevitable growth of the A-League? Inevitable, really? Have you not seen the ridiculous amounts of money almost every single club is losing? Have you not noticed that crowds are down from the first season of the A-League? You are a joke to criticise me for sticking to my club where three generations of my family have been. I've just come back from this so called "lifeless and unattractive" VPL you speak of and South who were down 2-1 in the 90th minute came back to win 3-2. The thousand or so supporters who were there created a brilliant atmosphere and it was a truly memorable game, so thanks for your concern but I'm good. You also speak of people like me delaying the growth? Well maybe if clubs such as South and others weren't left to rot after doing so much for football in this country I may have less anger towards the competition but as I said before, South till I die. Get a grip.
