i watched super size me the other day and i really enjoyed it.
it flew by and was quite funny in places as well. this got me thinking then what my favourite ever documentary was...

the king of kong, pumping iron, man on wire and of course senna (the best film of the year by far) all came to mind and i realised that was not nearly good enough in terms of quantity and range.

    so any good suggestions?

Exit Through The Gift Shop by Banksy is probably the best one I've watched recently.

The French one about the Penguins!

'March of the Penguins', it's called.

Les Blank's Burden of Dreams is invariably the first to spring to mind. I watched Marc Singer's Dark Days again recently and it's still a cracking watch. I'll think on it and return with a considered list later.

The smartest guy in the room, which was about the Enron scandal was very good.
Amazing what they were up to. Some manipulated the power grids(caused power cuts) to force the share price down so they could then buy it at a low price.
    Well worth a look.

    More Than A Game

Documents LeBron James (massive Liverpool fan of course) and his 3 best friends from when they were kids, into high school and their quest to win the national championships.

Personally I loved it. Watched it again a few weeks after the first watch

Have you seen Hoop Dreams? One of the finest sports documentaries I've ever seen. In fact, I know plenty of people who aren't even interested in sports, yet they thoroughly enjoyed the documentary.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I watched it a few months back but wasn't really that into it. I think it was after a heavy enough night out so that's probably the reason, because I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Might have to give it another shot

If you like that then you should watch another one called "Ringside"

It shows highlights of all his fights, even when he was knocking people out in the first 20 seconds in the junior olympics LOL, the blokes superhuman!

Ugh, that movie made me so horrible mad.

Also, Inside Job about the financial meltdown of Wall Street and mortgage crisis in US in '08. Really makes you mad, and they have brought forth a lot of evidence against the illegal banking schemes.

Also, ESPN does their 30 for 30, and all of those are amazing. I think they air them once a week, and they are on week 3 now.

Have you seen Morgan Freeman's Universe (or something like that?) Really good, and they ask a lot of 'out there' questions and discuss them. Pretty fascinating. I'll try to find a link.

EDIT: It's called Through the Wormhole, and you can watch it free online. I'd link it, but I can't from work computer. Quick google, and you're there.

He's also a lot smarter than most people would have you believe too. Ok he's said & done many questionable things during his life (I'm not including the rape charge in this as that & the legal goings on associated with it could fill a whole new thread tbh), but there's no doubting his impact upon boxing and bringing heavyweight bouts back to the fore.

A documentary that is well worth a watch is 14 Days In May, based in the 1980s. It's on YouTube and concerns the pending execution of a guy in Mississippi. Many believe him to be innocent (a follow up pretty much confirmed this), but the sentence was still carried out. Really hard to watch, but very well made.

Quite enjoyed some of the Nick Broomfield docus, including the Serial Killer Aileen Wuornos & the Biggie / Tupac murders.

There was also a 9/11 one with 2 brothers who were filming at the WTC on the fateful day. Absolutely brought the horror of the unfolding events home.

Of course Micheal Moore has to be included. Roger and Me is a very good film.

Thanks mate can you watch that online? Love watching all his old fights firmly believe for those few years he was better than Ali although he never had the longevity Ali had.

Tyson back in his prime (I'm thinking circa Spinks demolition) was frightening. Hand speed, defence, technique, power, ability to KO with either hand and a hunger to fight. We'll never know how the Ali fight would have gone, but what a spectacle it would have been!!

Ah yeah the David Attenborough's are all amazing. Human Planet was absolutely phenomenal. Watched them all earlier in the year.

    Which was your favourite one?
