Being ex serving myself, it was a tearful moment having my 6 year old nephew who was stood next to me during todays 2 minutes silence

When the minutes silence was over, he held my hand and said to me 'we will always remember them Uncle'

    He's spot on

    They shall grow not old

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

We will always remember their sacrifice in our name. Best wishes to the survivors of such terrible conflicts and RIP to those who sadly fell.

history may repeat itself,we may tear countries apart, but its impossible to forget the sacrifice of those involved, simply followed orders and gave their all.
words will never do justice to all men and women who serve what they believe and fight for that cause.

I know it's such a shame we have lost so many young men and women to wars and we should remember the dead but when will it end.

When will we stand up and say no to our sons, daughters etc being sent to unjust wars that are just to make elites more wealthy. They use the poor people of the country to fight their wars and for what? More resources and money and every year we're told bow your head and respect, I'm absolutely sick of yet more and more young working class people dying for what is in effect nothing.

Those poor lads are brainwashed with untruths like 'protecting the country' and 'it's an honour to serve your country and queen'. They continue to send many to their deaths and continue to stack the currency of their choice.

It will never end till man stops learning the art of war, as was said last night during the Rememberance programme on BBC1.

very true. I'm very thankfull we live in a country where freedom is upheld and we don't fight for the sake of fighting, but to protect ourselves and others who are oppressed.

Yes. The men and women who sign up for our forces have these morals and many politicians and dilplomats. I'm not talking about the scummy tycoons who finance war.

Most of the servicemen and women that I have known signed up for a job. Not for some higher moral purpose.

I also know lads with questionable morals who have served. I hope some of the stories they told of deeds in Iraq were some form of misguided macho boasting that was grossly exaggerated although knowing how they were on the streets prior to signing up, I'm not so sure.

This is the wrong thread to discuss this though.

Those who have died should be remembered.

Of course I totally respect those who gave their lives for us.... only
    - These wars never stopped happening.... may not have been world wars, but since the end of the 2ndWW there have been more than enough wars around the world. Only, in Europe, the closest ones were in the Balkans.

    - As for the First WW, I can think of nothing more senseless than the loss of millions of lives ... and for what exactly? People were sent off marchinng to their deaths for no greater reason than some family feud within the House of Queen Victoria.

    - At least in the 2ndWW there were real reasons for getting rid of Fascists who wanted to take over the World.

that's the 'official' story. WW1 was planned long before Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was killed. The order came from Rome after the Ottaman Empire collapsed to create a Jewish state with Christian shrines and it was deemed a great idea and the work of the Almighty by Pope Benedict XV

No matter. Millions and millions died for spurious reasons! And the fall of the Ottoman Empire fighting on the side of the Germans resulted in spurious boundaries for the new States created in the aftermath .... Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Saudi, and the rest.... Nothing great came out of this war.

I know nothing great came out of it, but if you were sitting in the Vatican wanting the Holy land to have Christian shines and places for Christian worship, you'll do whatever is needed according to your beliefs and the Jews, especially the Zionist ones, were the people to negotiate with. Many Zionist Jews went to previous Popes on the idea but were refused help because no territory was assigned for Christians.
