I'm starting basic training for the infrantry on sunday, so iv'e been running a lot and 2 weeks a go i twisted my ankle on some uneven ground. It's been swelling up and down ever since then so i went to a physio last night and she said that i have either ruptured or torn my ligament in my ankle. I don't know whether to still go on sunday and just say i twisted my ankle the other day so i've been resting it, then if it swells up again get treatment there, or ring my careers office and tell them all about it now.

I really need to start basic training on sunday i've been waiting 18 months for this and i'm out of work so im afraid if i get deffered then it's going to be for months and i won't get in till like mid summer or something.

I really don't know what to do

shut up you little gimp, you obviously don't have a clue what you're on about! first of all rupturing your ankle is different to a sprain, and the army will not accept me if i've got an ankle injury it's all to do with insurance and stuff come back when you have a clue little boy.

I'm joining the Rifles and i'm not moaning but i just don't want to get the train from Bournemouth all the way up to Darlington then them tell me you can't come in, also i don't want to have to lie about it because they ramble on about integrity and everything. I will quite happily run on it because it doesn't hurt i've been running on it in the week it's only because the swelling got so bad again that i went to go and see a physio and got a diagnosis. Equally i don't want to get a new start date because they're all booked up till march so im looking at April. i just want to know if there's anyway i can go up on sunday and get treatment for it up there.

I was just messing with you. You dont want to risk doing further damage because it will set you back even longer. You couldnt start your training because you are injured. You should nip down your recruitment office and ask them for advice, that is your best option. All we can do is guess

I imagine I'll have fair warning. You'll no doubt be on here asking how to work your gun beforehand (rather than doing the obvious and asking someone in the army directly).

The only reason i came on here to ask was becuase i knew the second i picked up that phone and spoke to my recruiter and said the word injury then i would be taken off the intake list, and what do you know it happened. I didn't even mentioned that i'd been to the physio and i had ruptured it, i just said i twisted it and they took me off. Wow you're incredibly naive.

You knew what would happen if you told the truth? so you came here for permission to lie?

I didn't join the thread to have a go at you -- I was just amused at the idea that someone who flew off the handle at the first person to respond might one day wield a gun or position of authority. It's both frightening and funny that someone so slow and temperamental might one day be defending this country. But good luck to you and all that, though. Still have no idea why you were asking that question here, especially since you're bashing all comers with the answer you already had.

He made the thread to see if there were any ex soldiers out there who could help him. Can you blame him for getting angry if idiots like you come on here and abuse him?!

I joined the thread to comment on his complete overreaction to someone else. In fact, he told the first person to reply that the army won't accept him with an ankle injury, so I don't even see the point in this thread.

He's been banging on about joining the army for over a year now -- I find it worrying that he's one of the most temperamental and illogical posters here.

The first person to reply was being no help to him, just throwing abuse at him and telling him to man up, albeit a joke. Hes obviously going to react to that. He should be respected for having the balls to even try out for the armed forces

I have a different criteria for respect, but whatever. I'm not sure why I'm even discussing this, let alone with you. Not being in the army grants me the luxury of being able to choose my battles -- have a good one.

Isn't rupture and torn the same thing? If you had torn a ligament, you wouldn't be able to walk let alone run, so you will have to defer.

If it is sprained, then you should rest this week, take a couple of ibro, strap it and get going.
