shelvey for sure! he has more technique and his style of playing is better to watch atleast for me. henderson was given many chances and yet he cant impress me at all. shelvey had a few chances and did great.
No idea between the two, but I like the look of Shelvey and even liked him from his Charlton days (one of my friends is a fan so I used to watch a few games with him before anybody accuses me of just being a youtube player watcher!)
I think although he may lack a huge amount of pace (still has enough to get by, much more than the likes of Adam) he has a certain mentality about him that Henderson lacks completely, he is always trying to get the ball forward, he isn't just safely side passing or back passing, he is looking ahead and trying to get another goal.
I think Jordan Henderson could turn out like Danny Murphy. There are a lot of players worse than Danny Murphy. A lot of better ones too though...
Shevely is an unknown quantity to me. He actually compares well to Gerrard but at the same time, does anyone really compare to Gerrard? He needs more experience and then we'll see what kind of player he truly is.
Is this the future?
Shelveys got a bright future, Henderson never plays in his best position (CM) so i can't really judge him at the moment
If you're talking about actually playing at AM then it's got to be Hendo for me. More potential, needs to play the rest of the season for confidence.
We could rotate the CMs especially with us having to play loads of matches next season. Couldn't make a proper comparison because neither have played enough matches in CM.
Shelvey is way more positive than Henderson, Henderson is a very good passer but Sheluey's passing is more crisp, what amazes me though about Shelvey is his vision. Shelvey's vision is top-notch and whenever he sees a player making a run or stationed in an excellent position, expect that defence-splitting pass from Shelvey. Henderson almost never makes through passes, he'd rather take the safe option and pass sideways, Henderson will never progress well if he cant learn to take risks. Shelvey has more bravery and quite confident of his abilities unlike Henderson and thats why Shelvey can impose his presence in a game better than Henderson who can be a coward sometimes and you wont notice he's even on the pitch. But, in terms of dictating play, both are still average, perhaps, more game time will improve their playmaking ability. One midfielder who has impressed me this season is swansea's Joe Allen. Very good positioning, superb vision and playmaking, good tackler and an excellent passer of the ball, has very good ball control and retention skills which helps him dictate play very well. You guys should keep an eye on Joe Allen, he's wales future playmaker.
So Henderson can juggle, big deal. It's hardly going to help him in a game is it?
Shelvey is actually more comparable to Lampard for me, not as quick as Stevie but I think he'd score more goals!
jonjo over jordan all day
Jonjo has confidence in his play. He plays like he knows what he is doing and isnt afraid to try something new. Reminds me of a young gerrard.
Where as Henderson is always playing the safe option drops his head when he makes a mistake and plods along like a donkey! ... (not saying he is one just reminds me of one) not a fan of henderson but i believe he can potentially be a big player in the future but not until he grows some...
Gonna stick my neck on the line here. But i think Shelvey looks like the most promising midfielders i have seen in a long time. Very graceful on the ball and has the ability to change the game in an instance, much like Gerrard or maybe more like Zidane. One of our biggest weaknesses as a side is lack of goals from midfield and i think this lad can deliver in that department.
The first time i saw him in a pre season i made a bet with my friend that he would be selected in the 2014 world cup squad. Watch this space!
shelvey needs to be groomed and played regularly to develop and its not a big ask considering our midfield options and to add henderson looks lost at the moment so few games either from the bench or when he is picked to start play him in the middle and never from the right wing may help him
At this point, even though Shelvey has had nowhere close to as many games as Henderson, he has definitely looked the more consistent of the two. While Henderson has shown flashes of brilliance, he has also looked lost plenty of times. While this may in part be due to him being played out of position, I still think he lacks the confidence of Jonjo, who I think has looked pretty confident every time he gets on the pitch. While I do not think either of them will be world-beaters, I do think they could be consistent first-teamers here in a couple of years. And by consistent, I am talking about their play, not their appearances in the XI, considering Heno already has that.
I'd love for Shelvey to get a run of games at this point along with Sterling (who I think does have the potential to be a world-beater)...
Having said that, Shelvey might be a great success playing in between a dominating midfield pair and the strikers, Henderson for me either learns the wide right role or contents himself with a purely squad role or just moves on.
Whatever about the CL versus CC debate I think the CC is a perfect competition to play the likes of Shelvey and the likes of Henderson in CM to see what they can do. I'd prefer that to winning the thing TBH. I think its more valuable in the long run.
