League Table If all Shots hitting Woodwork had gone in
Not sure how good the source is, but according to this we would have been 5th (5 points behind Arsenal as of 29/3), If all Shots hitting the Woodwork had gone in.

Does this change anyone's view on whether we can blame bad luck?

Actual table speaks the truth, we've been poor infront of goal, we haven't deserved anything more then we've achieved, sorry but that's the truth. There's bad luck and downright bad finishing, we've had both, but you can't just say it's luck.
Exactly. And you can often get a second chance to score from it.
If some of those had gone in earlier on in the season, we might never have settled so solidly into the low-confidence rut. More goals earlier one, more positivity, confidence, VALIDATION, all coming together to breed more of the same. Totally different season.
So basically it doesn't actually make much difference - we would still be falling short of 4th. I feel a lot better now.
Totally agree with that. A confident goal scoring forward is more likely to score than a forward that hasn't scored for 10 games.
Goal scoring is a habit. Also not scoring becomes a habit too.
Shame they don't do a table on penalties missed too.
So wait, even if you pretty much account for all of our "bad luck", we're STILL not good enough for fourth?
If man city won more games they would be top of the league.
People havent blamed luck on that, we called them bottlers.
However, we lose 6/7 win only 2 in 13 and we are called unlucky.

Its bad when we pull out stats like "most shots on goal"

After a while, it became a mental issue
Proven by the way in which we have missed 6 penalties... I mean how many teams miss 6 penalties in a season???
It was a result of the players having no belief that they can score - even from 12 yards out
However, some players like Gerrard/Bellamy have been mentally strong enough to overcome such a issue

The "If only" table just shows that it wouldn't have helped us much. There would still have been a long way to 4th.

This is my view as well, I would also point to the amount of own goals we have benefited from. However there is something in the building momentum comment above.

Bizarre that anyone would even think to produce a league table based on shots that hit the woodwork.

Not at all. We shouldn't be hitting the woodwork that many times, we should be hitting the back of the net.
A couple of things.
Does it take into account things like Suarez's goal against Villa. Where goals are scored off the rebound.
Secondly each goal scored could change the course of the game. So who knows how the game would finish.
That is not quite true. It means that there is a certain amount of progress that is fairly attainable – though not enough to take us into the Champions League.
It doesn't make a different in terms of the league table, but it does make a difference in assessing the outcome of what has been a mostly disappointing season. What it means is that progress is within reach, though getting there will still require a fair amount of good work.
Let's say that we had been in a similar league position, but had generally struggled to create chances and shooting opportunities. In that case, the issues to be addressed would have been much more fundamental and we would have to go through more steps to improve. If we create enough chances, we could conceivably make good gains simply by adding one or two players with better finishing skills.
