I've just voted AC MOM - he just shaded it over Maxi for me. The beast of Newcastle was almost there today- the big man was really a handful for Blackburn today. He beat them to the headers, he held the ball up, laid it back all very neatly, no clumsy foal-like running and was basically a pain in the whatsit for the rovers. More of the same big man and you'll get some of us off your back- sounds like he has been listening to our criticism here! Well done again big man, and boy, did he desreve his goal.

And what more can I say about Maxi and Bellars? Play them and they score! End of. What kenny's been thinking all along by sidelining this pair is beyond me- game intelligence, movement, balance- all there, even if bellars talks himself hoarse all the time.

As for Flanno, am not gonna be hard on the young man: he'll learn from this. Sorry Doni: that's life at times.

But all in all, a good performance from us. About time too

Played very well today, credit to him. I really don't know what we should do about him though. Should we give him another season to prove himself, and not buy a top class striker, which is a huge risk. Or should we just sell him in the summer and buy someone like Soldado? I think we should give him another season, he's shown glimpses of his ability. But as I said, it is a huge risk, if he doesn't have a good season we might not get 4th next season neither.

Definitely need another striker. Even two top-class strikers isn't enough for a title-challenging team, plus Carroll isn't anywhere near top class (yet)

Yes, but I guess we'll have to find someone cheap then. We can't afford to have, say a 20 million or a 35 million striker on the bench. A Hernandez type of striker would be perfect.

It's true- he's a conundrum. Today he showed what he could become with application, playing with the right players, etc (I really have no more words to describe my frustration and anger at Dalglish not playing bellars and maxi more: these two guys bring an unbelievable balance and threat to our team). I thoroughly enjoyed how he put himself about today, and the fact that he is young means he certainly has room for improvement.

But, and this is a big but, one swallow does not a summer make as we know. If he can play like this at least till the end of the season, perhaps there could be a way for him to stay in the club and not get criticised as he has been; but on the one hand, a player like this gets injured, or a red card or loss of form- it takes them for ever to get back in the side.

    Tough one really

If he can keep playing like tonight, he's not going anywhere.
He put in a monstrous shift, and that goal reminded me of the guy we thought we bought. Must have done him really good that.

Well done Andy, really well taken header. Long way to go now. If he's dropped for Everton I think I'll scream.

We need another striker regardless, but I see no benefit in us getting rid of Andy come the summer.

    Delighted for the lad tonight

And that's why we havn't got 4th. We can't just splash out 35 million on a player and have him on the bench. Either we give him another chance to prove himself, or we sell him and buy another expensive striker.

He was emphatic today. Andy worked his socks off when he was very isolated, and showed a touch of class to get the goal.

In the Premier League you need to have 4 top strikers if you want to be able to compete. The price tag is irrelevant.

Is that his first goal he scored with his head this season? Overall great performance out of him playing all by himself up top.

It's certainly not irrelevant, we don't have an endless stack of money like City. We have a budget to work within.

Why can't we just keep Andy and buy a top class striker? Any team that wants to succeed needs to have 3 top quality strikers, Look at utd, city, chelsea, they all have at least 3 quality strikers. Its no use tring to move forward if we only have one main striker and a couple of bit part forwards.

Still a long way to go to prove he's our long term number 9 - but I thought he was excellent tonight

Well taken goal but most of all...he worked his socks off up top on his own when we went down to 10 men...really gritty hard working performance

    Good work AC

I'm sure we will sign a quality striker and that Andy will have to live with that and fight for his place.

No falling over,no moaning, but a determined, focussed AC is what we want to see

Yes, of course we should have the striker on the bench if he's not performing, regardless of the price tag. But we do have a budget to work with, and if Andy doesn't start performing regularly we need a new striker. And how do we get the money for that striker if our owners aren't willing to spend their own cash? We sell Andy.

I think I might be misunderstood a bit here. I'm not saying we should sell Andy, I think he will come good. All I'm saying is that the owners might not like having a 35 million striker on the bench whose not performing, and would rather sell him to get a new top class, expensive striker in.

Thought at some point in the 2nd half "hope he gets credit for a good performance" and he certainly will now.

Yet another strong performance out there from an underperforming player today. Perhaps they just needed to get away from Anfield and half a brilliant travelling support to help them through it?

Tbh, I was about to post that I had finally seen enough of Carroll and never wanted to see him in a red short again...and then the ********** goes and scores. Seriously, his lazy ass was driving me crazy...now I don't know what to think, but until the goal he was seriously s****

I was a gutted figure for 70 minutes of that match. Watching at home, the neighbors were likely to call the cops I screamed so loud when he scored. Totally happy that we scored and fair to him that he capped the evening.

I guess scoring a goal get's you a lot more praise then I thought. He's played better in other games this season without scoring but has been criticized for having a poor game.

Thought this was a fairly average game by him, he was way better against Everton.
