Female drivers have to endure a fair bit of banter from their male counterparts, but such postulations have now been given some basis in reality, following the release of driving test data from the Driving Standards Agency under the Freedom of Information Act.

Of the 1,660,206 fail-worthy mistakes recorded over 2010-11, 718,244 were committed by men and 941,962 by women.

From the overall figures of those who actually took the driving test, there was a 50% fail rate for men and a 57% fail rate for women.

And when it comes to parking, a similar disparity can be seen. That most challenging of manoeuvres, the reverse-park, was responsible for 18,798 failures for men, while 40,863 female learners failed because of it.

The figures will no doubt disgruntle a few women drivers. But they should take heart from a recent report, based on covert surveillance in a car park, suggesting that women actually park better than men.

The videos demonstrated that while women take longer to park, they tend to park in the middle of the space.

It is also worth noting that instructors say that while men master basic driving skills quicker than women, they tend to develop bad habits after a short time on the road. Women, by contrast, are said to retain their driving skills for much longer.

Women are terrible drivers, and I don't feel bad saying that one bit.

There seems to be two types of them. My girlfriend is one type: no regard for anyone else on the road, regularly takes her eyes off the road for absolutely no reason and has bearly crashed numerous times. One time in particular I was in the front seat with her, and a car was turning into a petrol station, she continued driving not watching the road and had I not shouted she would undoubtedly have nailed the car in front.

Second type is like my mother: drives incredibly slow, but is still incredibly dangerous

My ex girlfriend was reversing out of a parking space before and barely looked, but I saw the car coming and assumed since she was driving she had to see it. I eventually had to yell at her to stop because she kept backing out and the car barely missed us. She gestured to the other driver (also a woman) by raising her hand and mouthing the word "what?" all I could do is stare at her and eventually said "you know we almost crashed?". She was adament she had seen the car the whole time, but I'm not so sure haha. That is when I decided the stereotypes had a degree of truth.

Women have worse spacial awareness than men hence they aren't as good at parking and bump cars about a bit.

Men on the other hand have ego and anger issues due to being generally less happy in life than women, due to the different chemical balances in male and female brains (hence more men are into booze, sex, gambling etc than women). This makes a lot of them drive like dicks and crash their cars.

Therefore women have more accidents, but they cost far, far less in terms of money and lives than accidents caused by men.

That's because Micra's are driven either by over 70's or under 25's. Nobody in between.

I hope this question isn't too intrusive but... do you deliberately drive at 0-30mph everywhere or is it a matter of mechanics?

Mostly mechanics. If driving uphill with more than one person in the car, acceleration becomes impossible in any gear. I did once manage to get it up to 90mph, at which point I think it started crying.
