I remember one called 'PokeGlobal', but I'm not sure what it's called now, and if it's actually finished (it was in Beta when I played it).

I said the same thing on here last week although I've been thinking it for years. Monsters could actually vary in rarity, with some actually being completely unique (with maybe a special ability to breed (or spawn somewhere randomly again) every few years or once a year or something). Every so often they could update every captured monsters stats (like a reset) where whatever level they are currently on (up to 100 or 1000) would determine how much of a boost the get in the next stage of the stat reshuffle, to stop the game becoming stale. For example a standard level 1 Pikachu might have stats in the 20's. After a re-shuffle if it is still at level 1 it would have the same stats, if it was at level 100 it could return to level 1 with stats in the 40's (and therefore potential for more growth). If it was at level 50 for the re-shuffle, it would start at level 1 with stats in the 30's. This is just an idea off the top of my head which would probably be hated and have issues but thought I'd write it down anyway.

I think Yu-Gi-Oh is the most well-rounded card game but can't really see it working as an interactive MMORPG in the same way.

I'm sure it would be enjoyable but how would you go about collecting cards etc? It just doesn't have the growth potential of your Pokemon in my view.

same way you collect all cards in that game beat your opponent get one of the cards you destroyed. everyone starts off with just 50 and theres over 1000 in the game they could release updates with new cards.

I guess so but you would either have people with unbeatable decks getting all your cards or more likely people who own good cards never using them for fear of losing them.
