lets lose them with some of the youngsters in there. let's face it, apart from finishing above the bitters, it no longer matters where we end up in the league - its been a disaster and we all know it. So why not try out the youngsters and see if the cream really does rise to the top - they can't do any worse can they?

Yeah, I don't know why but Kenny doesn't want them to play. Probably he fears they'll lose self-confidence if fans get on their backs.

TBF, that is a genuine concern that he does need to consider

The seniors don't seem to care, they're the reason we are where we are

I don't think it's a question of effort, more of a skill. Or kwality as Rafa used to say.

Maybe so, and obviously I cant speak for the entire fan base, but I would hope this wouldnt be the case. I for one would be very pleased to see 3 or 4 youngsters thrown in, I wont be expecting them to deal out a thrashing, and I think a lot of fans would be more patient with the youngsters than we are with 'senior' players who have bottled it countless times this season.

I would rather we threw in a couple of younger players and learnt something about them and the squad between now and the end of the season, than persist with players that have constantly let us down and lose anyway.

    I agree with this.

The biggest problem I see is our form leading to the final has been nothing short of shocking, the fans getting on the players back is because we expect so much more from them. A few youngsters as Jonah says would allow the team a little more patience from the fans and if nothing else it would lift the staduim, it would excite us all only for the fact that Kenny would have grown some cahoonas!!

The problem is that if we had just missed out on a CL league spot with 2 or 3 games to go, we would have nothing to play for except pride. In that scenario, I could see Kenny deploying some of our youth.
Instead, we're suddenly only 3 or 4 points above 13th, and we're playing for a bit more than pride (even though there is no chance of material reward at the end of it)... we're suddenly potentially playing for Kenny's job! I think that will limit the youth's chance to make the bench or the pitch for the first team...

If we're lucky though, we might rest a few players before the FA Cup final...

Exactly. seeing a few young players getting a chance, stepping up from the reserves like we had hoped they would, would give everyone a boost. They deserve a go, more than some of the players that are repeatedly getting chances. We cant get 4th, we cant go down, we have Europa football next season already - surely this is as good a time as any to throw a couple in, especially if we are worried about it ruining confidence, how can it? They have no pressure on. I wouldnt field the entire reserve team, but maybe one or two at least, to see how they deal with it if nothing else.

I hope this isnt the case, I really do. We cant get 4th, we cant get relegated, and we already have Europa league secured for next season. The owners said not getting top 4 would be a major disappointment. Right now it is winning the Carling Cup and possibly the FA Cup that is keeping Kenny in a job, not the difference between finishing 8th and 13th.

Fingers crossed. The problem is that if we do play youth and ending up losing our last 4 games, then we finish 3 points above the relegation zone.

Even there is no significant difference between 6th and 17th in terms of end product, the owners may take a very different view...

True, and it may well be that you are right. However, I am not confident of us winning again this season in the league, with the team of players we are putting out. I'm not saying the youngsters are going to come in and thrash whoever we play, but if you could make up a situation where there is an ideal time to play youngsters, in a low pressure situation with nothing hugely important riding on it, this would be it. We may as well learn something about their mentality and readiness to step up, if nothing else.

Very, very true. In many ways, this is ideal for the young players. Kenny just has to have faith in the owners (or vice versa) in order to implement it...
