To me that makes it sound like Comolli is the man that pushed the "buy british" policy.
Yeah he does say 2 players, its the quote that has been changed around.
He says In the past we have looked at players and looked at the data and then when signing them it has come back to bite me. I remember two players that this has happened to me an outfield player (and he talks about that situation briefly) and a goalkeeper and mentions how they have more shots to save at a smaller club. So the stats can be misleading.
Its the quotes that have been changed around, typical misquotation.

Damien Comolli - "The main attribute we look for in a player is pace, I like Alonso but as proven the other night he is not quick enough"
Oh my.....clueless
Im trying to listen to this interview, but all I can hear is moan moan moan moan. And all I can think is 35 mill for Carroll, 20 mill for Downing.
This man really does sound clueless.
The only thing that matters is that now he's gone we can actually buy some good players again.
Double post.
Well stats are important, maybe not god though.
Goals scored is a stat, would you be happy buying a striker that has scored 2 goals in a season every time you have seen him play he has been amazing but for some reason he just can't finish or would you go for the player who's stat says he has scored 40 goals in a season but has not looked as good on the ball e.t.c
This is how you use stats, football is not so black and white though so you can only use stats so much.
I notice one stat that everyone loves on these forums and that stat is Downing - assists 0 - goals - 0
I have actually only done one thread that involved stats and it was to highlight that we HAD created chances and we HAD put in plenty of crosses but we HAD failed to finish at the levels required.
I also included some defensive stats as an after thought.
I also added some stats to someone elses thread recently which was conversion rate stats and I only did that to who how we have lacked from a striking point of view compared to other teams. Every team except Wigan had strikers with a way higher conversion rate. Fact is though we didn't need to actually see the stat to know this was a problem it was just a way of backing up what we already knew.
Thats about as far as I go with stats and mainly the more obvious ones. the only other time I bring up stats is when someone else has already mentioned them.
What qualifications do you need to become director of football these days?
All this talk about twitter misquotes....surprised no one has just done a write up of the transcript even if it's the podcast website.
On Damien.....no matter how you slice it....whether it was Kenny or him who picked all these expensive flops, he was the man to approve or veto the purchase. Any real Director would have said hello no to at least 3 of these signings.
He had to go simple as that.
They aren't flops yet.
No, they are spectacular flops.
Hell, even Kenny's daughter was asking him....WTF do you want people to look for when they can clearly see these mopes are flops???
The worst thing about seeing Comolli's comments....seeing how the guy just doesn't sit there and look at a player and go with what his eyes and gut and heart and brain are telling him. No, he wants to bury himself in stats, and scenarios, and total BS crap that really mean diddley.
He signed Downing because he was the leader of crosses stats in the league last season.
Do you know what would have happened if you used idiotic stats and silly scenarios (big club/small clubs nonesense) in the 80s and 90s? There would be no Barnes, no Aldridge, no Beardsley, no Houghton for starters.....
Comolli is going to be on Keys & Gray on TalkSport next Wednesday.
Talking about LFC, this should be interesting.
