Will he ever win a grand slam or is he just the next Tim Henman ?
He's the best British tennis player in years. Unfortunately he's around at the same time as Fed, Nadal and Djokovic.
It's very amusing to watch him fail at every single Grand Slam, though![]()
He will win one sooner or later.
The law of averages would indicate that he should, eventually. He can beat the three players above him but when it comes to the grand slams unfortunately he is always likely to meet one on top of their game, which he can't live with.
I can't see Novak or Rafa dropping their game for long enough tbh.
Andy Murray is going to win it next year.
Don't start.
If you are slanderous against me I will screencap, print, laminate and frame your comment and take it to the Citizens Advice Bureau, to my local MP, to David Cameron, to Lord Sugar, to Hugo Chavez, to the Dalai Lama, to Bruce Almighty, to Barack Obama, to Theodore Roosevelt (I bought a TARDIS off eBay), to Robert Mugabe and Sherlock Holmes.
I was promised that these forums were for Liverpool fans to communicate with each other harmoniously. Clearly this isn't the case. Anyone with the powers that be can get rid of you by my request and I will hold them to a court order to do so if they choose to not listen to me.
...I could do with the thread being open, as I now can't remember what else he said. I should've screencapped it.

He will never win a grandslam. He's just not good enough when it comes down to the big matches.
It is something I really enjoy watching too. Watching the likes of Nadal, Fed, and Djokovic teasing him into letting him think he has a chance then putting him in his place right at the end.
Personally I cant stand him. He made it clear what he thinks of us when he said "am not British am Scotish". Which is good for us as he can be called a Scotish loser and not a British one when he is torn his yearly new one at Wimbledon this year. In anycase I would rather save my support for Laura Robson.
Andy Murray is thinking of taking viagra as he has trouble getting beyond a semi
The 'i'm Scottish not British' thing just comes from the fact that he's British when he's doing well and winning but he's Scottish when losing. Its just the way all the English react to stars from other than England. I respect him for saying that cause its true. Exact same with Rory McIlroy. You's try your best to claim him as well.
Just feel the bitterness from your post just cause he doesn't want to be labeled British/English.
Not at all. The British thing came from an interview after a match in his first year at Wimbledon when everyone was all over him. He was the best thing since slice bread with people queing up to offer him praise and he returns the complement by correcting the interviewer when he was called British. That was just disrespectful. Especially when it was his 1st year there as a pro. Let's not forget his "anyone but England" statement amoungst a few.
For the record am not saying the was nothing wrong with the praise he was getting at the start. It was right as it seemed we might finally have a player to do what Tim Henman couldnt. It was just his attitude.
If anything your the one who seems bitter. Worrying that Rory McIlroy is going to be claimed by the English?. Give it a rest. We have enough English stars of our own without claiming others. I have no problem with the Scotish. It's you lot that has the problem with us.

Couldn't agree more. I'm not sure where this hatred of the English comes from these days, but by the end of 2014 it may not be something we have to worry about anymore.
To move back on topic, there are 3 reasons why Andy Murray will never win a Grand Slam, and they are:
1- Novak Djokovic
2- Rafael Nadal
3- Roger Federer
I didnt write that in the above statement because I was more putting faults against the other 3 top players, but like you say the emergence of new players does have to be taken into account. I do think there will be other players who will be on the rise soon enough and will possibly overtake Murray in the coming years, however I believe he has enough about him to win a slam before these players reach the same heights.
He will win one eventually. There's bound to be a grand slam where everything falls into place for him i.e. other players knock out either Fed, Rafa or Djokovic in an earlier round or one - if not two - are taken out of contention by injury or Murray just plays his absolute best all throughout the tournament and his rivals play below par and lose to him. It will happen sometime.
Lendl has had a much better impact on him. He'll win at least one I reckon, he'd be number one but for Nadal and Djokovic. Djokovic has managed to up his game over the last two years and Andy needs to do the same if he is to have any Grand Slam success.
Too much hatred for Murray in this thread. No, he is never going to win a grand slam, but England are never going to win the World Cup in the next 20-30 years, and Liverpool are not going to win the league in the next 5 minimum... thats no reason to hate any of them - they just aren't good enough.
The fact is, Murray is probably the best British tennis player since the 1930's. He just happens to have been around at the same time as arguably the greatest player of all time (Federer), another who is easily in the top 10 all-time (and also the greatest clay player of alltime) in Nadal, and now Djokovic despite his blip at France is looking to put himself in the top 5-10 discussion. Fed is past it, Nadal cannot maintain his style for the same duration as Fed so I think these 2 could very well move aside in time for Murray BUT Djok i think is the same age as Murray and has shown to be very resilient despite playing more matches than anyone else.
Going back to Henman, he was an above-average player who was actually very good on grass and with home advantage might have squeaked a Wimbledon...except he was up against the greatest grass player of all time (Sampras). If you look at Henman's physique and tools, he performed well above what could be expected of him and should be hugely admired for what he acheived, not derided.
Switching sports, I would have mush more disdain for the likes of Jimmy White who clearly bottled at least 1 world title, or Paul Gascoigne who had exactly the wrong sort of mentality but which the British public cheers on and accept.
These 2 tennis players did the best they could, despite the adversity of being British.
I agree. He only does as well as he does because the rest ain't any better and until such a time as Nadal and Federer aren't around, and others don't rise to the occaision, he won't win a grandslam. Also the rankings are self perpetuating in tennis, they give the seeds the best chances of doing well and doing well keeps them ranked high to be seeds which give the seeds the best.............................
Ironically enough if the draws weren't seeded he might have won a hatful by now.........................
I hope so but I remember Tim Henman losing in the Aussie Open (4th round I think) when all the other main contenders had already been eliminated. If he gets a decent chance he's going to have to take it and squeeze every bit of juice out of it. Good luck Andy.
Murray out again!![]()
