Indeed, almost as if it were time for the Europa League to emerge from the shadows.
Some big clubs and hopefully those clubs will do the competition justice and we'll be a part of some great European nights, if even if it's not the first choice of competition for us. Reality is we've just finished 8th, so if we think we're too big for the Europa League we're kidding ourselves. Some other clubs in the same boat, might have been looking bigger, but really should be going hard at the Europa. Some great potential ties in there with the likes of Inter and Atletico amongst others.
Also think it could be a good thing to be in it, gives some lads like Henderson, Enrique, and Carroll some good European football experience. The competition would be 10x better if it was just a straight knock out like the old UEFA Cup format, but I'm hoping these big sides take the competition seriously.. but then again, most european sides do except for the premier league teams. I'd love to get to the latter stages of the competition and to be playing teams like Inter again.
Even if it just in the Europa league, I would LOVE to play against the likes of Inter, Atletico, Napoli, Lyon.... on a European night again!![]()
hopefully we'll wont make it to the competition proper, a pathetic competition that NOBODY rates and nobody looks forward to playing in, both united and city got knocked out of it last season and NOBODY batted an eyelid about it, when they got knocked out of the champions league it was a massive failure, nobody cares about the europa league, and seriously...as if we need any more distractions or excuses as to why or league form may carry on being so bad, it certainly won't inspire anyone to pull their weight because nobodys wants to play in the poxy competition,
Not a lack of ambition, just seriously, nobody cares about it
No point us qualifying for the CL then if its just gonna cause a distraction to our league form then? And we should drop out of the Fa and Carling cups as well.. Basically what your saying.
And as for 'nobody cares about it' every other european team who's involved in it takes it seriously and that goes for the spanish and italian team, then there's only the premier league teams who treat it like rubbish.. the reason being.. they care more about finish a place higher in the league and getting a few more quid.
It will be good to play against Bayer Leverkusen where Sami will be Manager.
There are such things in football as welcome distractions, like winning the FA/league cup, or being in the Champions league, the best competition in football, the europa league is an honour thats practically not worth having on your honours list, in terms of what it can do to a squad no good can come of it at all, from start to finish it is 19 games, half a premier league season, and we have the squad for that?? has any team hoping to finish top 4 to get into a proper competition got a squad to cope with that, oh and i cant wait to watch liverpool play on a sunday every week, thurdays nights on channel 5 are the highlight of everyones week, seriously you cannot sell this compeition to me or anyone, the UEFA cup used to have some worth, winning it was always 2nd best but was still looked at as a job well done, the europa league is the one NOBODY wants to be in, it will ruin newcastles season next year if they get far in the competition, and in the recent seasons we have been in it, it has done us no good what so ever, and about finances?? it is not worth being in what so ever, 5 million for winning it, come on, that will just cover the air miles,
There is not a single footballer out there who has ever said before signing for a team, yes i am very attracted to______ they have the lure of europa league football, its champions league or it's nothing in this game we love !!! Domestic cups are totally different, you travel a few hudred miles and maybe get a day out under the arch, there worth playing for, lets see what team kenny puts out in the europa league this season and you'll see what LFC think of the competition, i'll bet Gerrard barely notches a single appearence in the europa league

Just out of interest, how come only English sides treat this competition with contempt? It may not be the Champions League, however it is a perfectly legitimate stepping stone on to bigger things. Seeing the reaction of teams in it the last couple of seasons from the continent, the passion the players show and how important they think it is. Atletíco Madrid, Bilbao, Porto, Braga, Fulham(who under Roy were the only recent English side to play a near full strength side and reached the final).
I understand that the format is not the greatest, however in this modern age of football, top players should easily play 1 game every 3 days. Plus, once you make it out of the groups, the standard of teams greatly increases. Plus it's great for the fans, more opportunities to get down to Anfield and watch the team.
I'm not saying we should be happy with a place in the Europa. Of course we shouldn't, but at the same time, we should be aiming to win it and I'm sure Kenny will be, regardless of the feelings of some arrogant fans who deem the competition unworthy.
If we play any of these teams then it will be good. I really don't want to watch 3rd grade teams playing vs our youth or something.
Our non involvement in Europe is probably one of the key reasons why the club managed to get to the other cup competition finals.
The later stages of the competition have been great this season but the early stages are painful.
Spurs played a reserve side almost all the way through it.
Given we are in he next gen as well we'd have to play the under 18's in the next gen and the the reserves in the cup.
There are always plenty of decent teams in it TBF, and next season it obviously goes up in importance because we are in it too. Who needs CL, when EL is where its at next year.![]()
Lets win it anyway and then move on to CL the year after,![]()

Not being funny but the clubs that really go all out to win this competition have absolutely NO CHANCE of winning their leagues, teams like athletico madrid, blibao, braga, teams finishing 3rd and 4th in portugese, german, spanish, french leagues generally never win their league so the europa league is all they will ever win, take it seriously and they can do it because all the bigger clubs know its all about the champions league and winning their leagues, no other team is going to win the spanish league except barca and real madrid so its no wonder athletico madrid go gung ho in the europa league because there a good team who are never going to win anything with those 2 around,
english teams know a tournament like that with so many games can ruin their seasons and hopes of finishing in a champions league spot, if chelsea are in in next season there team will be the players who hardly ever see get a game, Roman won't stand for chelsea being a europa league team, it's a joke competition
I'm still mentally scarred from the Utrecht game at Anfield, 90 minutes of my life I will never get back.
So now we've got a realistic chance of winning the league next season have we? A lot of people compare the Europa League to the Carling Cup.. so I'm guessing you weren't really bothered about us winning that this season? The name of the competition and the prize money might not be as appealing to some people, but I would love another big European night at Anfield against one of the stronger teams like Inter, Atletico, Lyon or Napoli. Its a stepping stone to bigger things and it gives a good taste of European football to the younger lads in the team. Tottenham should of gone through in their group even with the teams they were putting out, but it didn't seem to hinder them to try and get into the top 4? Still managed to reach an Fa Cup semi final as well. I'm not saying to field our strongest side in the group stages, but as soon as you get through that then there are some quality sides in it regardless of the competition.
i love watchin liverpool even if its agaisnt the reserves so i rlly dont care.
These teams you mentionned regardless where they have finished in their respective leagues, they still much better than the champion of Wales, Albany, Luxembourg, Israel, Lithuania, Bosnia, Ireland, Moldova. Just to name few
The proof the 2 Mancs were beaten in the Europa League.
anyone knows are we going to enter
Third qualifying round 28 July - 4 August
or
Play-offs round 18 August - 25 August
3rd qualifier but I think your dates are wrong.
I think we should have a bye to the quarters.
Will be good to see the likes of Shelvey, Henderson, Robinson, Sterling, Suso, Kelly and Coates participating in this competition, giving them valuable experience and the chance to play in hostile and intimidating surroundings.
We don't have the right to look down on the Europa any more.
I would love to come up against Leverkusen. Sami would get an amazing reception.
