Sorry if this thread has been done before - I had a brief look though and couldn't find one.

What do people think of him though? I'm not quite convinced of his quality and not 100% sure he'd be able to put in big performances at a big club like LFC. Having said that there are a number of reason why signing him would be a decent idea..

    - He does work well with Rodgers
    - He'll be available for less than £7 million
    - He won't be a strain on the total wage bill
    - He fits the "FSG type" in that he is a young talented player (22 years old)
    - If it doesn't work out for him here we could sell him at age 24-25 and still recoup all if not more of our initial 7 million investment
    - He also plays a position (Attacking Mid) that we lacked last year
    - He has a few years experience playing and living in England, so he'll settle in fairly quick
    - He'd be the first Icelandic player for the club (not sure though), or well at least the first Icelandic player for a while and could possibly help in shirt sales there

He wouldn't be a world beater, but I do think he'd be a good addition to the squad, especially if we don't have much to spend this summer.

Also on a side note - given that he has NOT yet signed for Swansea, Rodgers' deal not to swoop for Swansea players for the next 12 months doesn't include a swoop for Sigurdsson

He will improve our squad and i do think we could better players - We could ger Nuri Sahin if we really tried! Hands down much player all round!

Well, Sigurdsson is a decent player, but his best position is at central attacking midfielder, and that is probably the best covered position on our squad ... Personally, I'd much rather see Henderson, Shelvey and Suso being given more playing time at the position, as backups for Gerrard and Aquilani, so we could direct our transfer funds to the wide attacking positions ...

We will buy this mid table player when we should be buying Sahin or Christen Eriksen (Ajax) the best young mids around. Sadly thats were LFC are at now. Rogers should get the same cash Kenny got. U cant run a big club and expect to make up 30 points in a season on 30 mill a year transfer budget. Its a joke! More empty promises.

He'd definitely be a good signing. He's quite versatile and can interchange with the other midfielders playing deeper (as I expect him to be the most attacking of the midfield 3). His set pieces are the real deal, unlike Adam's, and is already well versed in Rodgers' passing philosophy.

I don't like how people are already passing judgement on him despite the fact that they obviously haven't seen him play. I'm sure the same people would be jumping over the moon should we sign someone like Ganso, despite the fact that he's been quite off form for quite some time now (due to an injury a while back), he's unproven outside Brazil and lacks searing pace or a physique suited to the premier league.

jesus, some some negative comments about this kid, Gylfi Sigurdsson would be a great addition to the squad wether its attacking mid or central, he would kick adam/henderson/shevley etc out the team any day, can score all types of goals and especially free kicks!! Him a new winger and a prolific goal scorer like De Jong and id be over the moon!!

im not normally one to buzz off youtube videos as if you put downings great moments in a video hed look amazing, and we all know the answer to this, but this video is class!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZGsWFzV8OQ

he scores goals on the level we seen Gerrard score them over the years!!

Gylfi Sigurdsson plays like a second striker more than an attacking midfield, he can play in the hole of a 4231 formation. So, even we sign Nuri Shain, there is no influence. Sahin plays on the left side of the 2 while Gylfi Sigurdsson plays in the hole.

I think you're being a bit harsh! Sigurdsson is not a world beater - like I mentioned - but he is really a quality player. Even a number of Manure fans have been saying that THEY want to sign him. And he's young as well!

Don't know how likely it is that we can get Sahin, because I think he was bought by Madrid to replace the aging Xabi - but I think it's actually fairly likely that we could get him on a year-long loan deal.. if we really pushed for it.

Would Love to get Gylfi Sigurdsson, really want him!!!! You have to be blind to not see his quality. (put it in bold as you might be blind and may miss this point )
Hes not world class or anything but he is definetly high quality and above average along with being very young.

Under Rodgers, in just half a season at Swansea he got 7 goals and 4 assist! A proper goal scoring midfielder, something we desperately lacked last season

what you got to look at aswell... its his first season in the premier league.. hes only going to get better!! young too, eager to learn, especially under a man like BR. Compare him to our current players, Adam!! Henderson!! He really reminds me of Gerrard the way he scores goals!!

Hopefully not. Funds better spent elsewhere. No brainer.

No he's not a big enough name on FIFA and for my consumer eye, which can only rate the obvious big named players and believes any players signed that are not well known can be compared to Adam and won't work

He can do a job for us but I would put Younes Belhanda ahead of him in that role. I also fancy Adam Maher of AZ - a great kid only 18 years old. By the time Maher reaches 22, he will certainly be a world beater.

It all depends on budget but if FSG make the money available, I would like Brenden Rodgers go for Iker Muniain (Left), Pablo Piatti (Right), Belhanda (AMF), Kevin Strootman (CMF) and Luuk De Jong (CF) to give us any chance of getting to the top 4 next year.

My second choices will be: James Rodriguez (Left), Romain Hamouma (Right), Adam Maher (CMF/AMF), Rasmus Elm (CMF) and Matias Suarez (CF).

This said, LFC need to keep a close look at these youngsters: Rausch (Hannover) and Lacazette (Lyon), Puzoelo (Betis) and Niang (Caen).

    Cheers!

How is it a no brainer. Who for the prices quoted is a better player?

Sigurdsson's quality. Very technical player and a big, strong lad aswell. Able to hold the ball up, can shoot, great eye for a pass. Rodgers will definitely look to bring him to Liverpool FC.

Also, he looks like he could play anywhere off the centre-forward, out wide or midfield playmaker. TSG Hoffenheim want to recoup the 6.5m they spent on him. I'd bite their hand off. The fact that contract talks with Swansea have stalled suggests we're in for him but we won't make a bid untill Swansea have appointed a new manager. Rodgers won't insult his former club.

Looks likely he will be a LFC player next season and not Swansea.

He has been quoted as saying that we are a big club and he would like to follow BR.

He's certainly a very good player, he may not be the big name that many want but it's not about paying over the odds for big names, it's about bringing in players that can slot into Rodgers team and play the way he wants them to play, and Gylfi Sigurdsson fits the bill perfectly.

Mate, there is only 320.000 people living in Iceland in total so shirt sales would be a very small argument

That aside I think he'd be worth a punt at 7mil. Your other points are very valid

has anyone see this guy play this season? I can't say I have. seems young and fairly priced but I think unless he has a lot of quality we dont need any more mediocre players.

IF the rumours are true and we only have £20 - £30 million to spend I'd rather we go all out on one big marquee signing rather then go for several cheaper mediocre players. we need quality and not quantity.

For the price, it wouldn't bother me much if we did sign him since I think he'll be better than Adam. Of course, I'd then try and sell Adam to recoup most of what Sigurdsson's will cost and we'll have upgraded one player for little or nothing. But the problem I see right now is the same one we had last summer - too many players coming in who all play in the same position, while other areas of need go unaddressed, like defensive mid, right mid (and possibly left too), along with another striker.
