I hate thread moderation. I think it's killing these boards. I have almost given up on starting new threads because I can't remember the last one I had approved. I can only guess as to how many others feel the same as I do - the indication that is that it might be lots because the main page of the boards barely changes from one week to the next these days!

Ironically, I started a new thread discussing this and... it didn't get approved. :\

Anyway. One thing that I thought might help is this: Posters have no indication of if and when their thread is going to be approved or not. In addition, I believe that many new threads are imported into existing ones? (Mods can verify that). But the problem there is that we have no way of knowing if it has been imported or not. So my suggestion is that the user who has created the thread is automatically sent a message saying whether is has not been approved at all or whether it has been imported into another thread AND which thread.

At least then we'll know - because at the moment, we haven't got a clue - people might well be discussing my points and I have no idea!

    Thoughts?

    Thread moderation is off.

When threads are moved, generally they are moved pretty soon after the thread is created and you can see that it has been on the boards itself (this generally is only for an hour before it disappears as it is assumed that the thread starter is still around after creating it). If we leave the message on the boards for too long, the boards will be messy and cluttered.

Thread mod is only used at times when the forums are under a lot of stress and poster continue to make duplicate threads.

Ironically, I started a new thread discussing this and... it didn't get approved. :\
    - Starting an off topic thread in FD would never be approved as it does not belong there, it should be posted in Feedback. If thread mod was not on and you posted such a thread it would be deleted/locked or moved to Feedback.

I believe thread mod is turned off now (I could be wrong though) so the timing of this thread is a little off, but your point is still valid and I do believe we should have away of communicating easily with posters or a notification system which tells posters if/when there thread has been approved and or merged.

Firstly, if I'm on the boards for an hour, I'm in the middle of a big debate with someone. And usually, if that's the case, I'm probably not starting my own thread. If I'm not debating and I start my own thread, I usually leave within 5/10 minutes. I would assume that's pretty average for most people.

Also - how can I see that you have merged it?

The place where the thread previously was will turn light blue (I think) and still states the name of the thread, but it will contain a link to the thread it has been merged to.

This post is not reliant on thread moderation already being off - it's about trying to find a solution to informing people their posts have been merged when it's on.

I really don't think a thread turning blue is a good indicator that my thread has been merged - that could be anyone who has updated a thread. I have no way of knowing whether that's my post, someone elses post and then the fact that I might be looking for some time means I'll be clicking on threads hoping to see mine. I'd like to see you guys finding a proper solution to this. It really is effecting the quality of these boards.

The thread title stays there for an hour with the word "Moved' next to it. Its easy to see, and if you click on it you are taken to the thread its moved to.

If you don't see that within the hour, as Redfan says, it remains in your post history so you can access via your profile. It does work

Please put it back on. We need threads with a little more to them than just whinging about whingers, "I had a thought", or plethoras of threads about players where threads exist. I know it is silly season aka the summer, but do we REALLY need so many of these soapbox threads............? I bet half the threads wouldn't make the cut, while they may "drop down the list" they can also bury perfectly good threads and they then become "out of sight, out of mind"

    Bring back Fred
