Watching the Euro's and seeing spain play without a striker made me remember the days where Michael Laudraup and Francesco Totti did the same for their clubs. I was wondering if people thought it could work for Stevie G as well in his later career at liverpool. People have been saying that has he moves into the later part of his career he should play deeper has he doesnt have the legs to go from box to box everygame anymore which i agree with but i dont see him as the scholes type of pkayer who looks to control games he has more to offer and it can be best served further up the field. Especially with us looking to play a possession game now it could be benefit us. He obviously wont just stay up to, he would move around and swap positions with other players but will also be a focal point of our attack .

I would say no as he is not the same type of player as Totti or Laudrup. I remember him playing a few games up front for us in 04/05 when both Baros and Cisse were out injured. Can’t remember what his performances were like though.

Yea but that was a while back he is more experience now and should be better there. I am not saying he should be our first option in that position just that he might be worth a shot there

I believe the question is how much SG can play at all.

When Torres was injured I said a number of times Gerrard is the best option we had at the club,

good with the ball at his feet, can beat a player with the ball on the floor, great finisher

Gerrard has said he need to be more disciplined in CM to prolong his Career, he,s not got the groins to play that No 9 role anymore, he cant change direction quick to lose defenders, he not got that initial bust of pace that is needed, he needs to be marking players not being marked.

You say but surely he still needs to turn quickly to mark aswell, no point in him just letting someone glide past him is there. But I get what you mean - not sure how to play him tbh, I think a more diciplined role would suit him as his passing is probably better than his shooting these days (seemed to drag a fair few wide of the mark rather than on target last season) already miss the days of him and Torres playing up top, was such a great partnership and captain fantastic in his prime!
