I think it would be perhaps be surprising, although yes, I'd agree that it would be a much, much smaller percentage than society as a whole.

I still don't see why they should be applauded for not doing something they shouldn't do in the first place.

Cocaine is illegal and alcohol is not. There is a big difference.

I live only a few blocks from what used to be Jimmy Burkes bar. Where Billy Batts got whacked. It's now a Caribbean restaurant. A lot of people were whacked there not just Batts.
The reason the mob wanted him dead before he ratted them out was ,well 2 reasons really. One was he was selling smack against Paul Vario's wished (his capo) and the other is Jimmy Burke wanted all ties connecting him to The Lufthansa Heist cut.

Not a legend at all, he had to do what he did to stay alive, just a remarkable story which was made into a very good film! but the film doesnt do the book Gangster and Goodfellas justic, very good read and goes into much more detail.

Now if you guys are into these type of Movies, Books, Human stories i urge you all to read One Of The Family This book provides an interesting biography of the infamous Wilf Pine, covering his life within the UK and his visits to the USA. It also includes an intriguing insight into the Mafia connection and the darker aspects of the pop music industry. This needs to be made into a film stunning read.
