If we play Carra/Skrtel in the back it will be a 90 minute comedy hour except we will not be laughing.

    -----------------------Reina----------------------

    --GJ--------Skrtel----------Coates---Enrique

    -----------------Lucas---Allen-------------------

    ----------------------Gerrard--------------------

    ---Assaid-----------Borini-----------Suarez--

    Make it happen.

    Stranger things have happened.

Gerrard will probably decide to give a toss so who can say.

If yesterday was anything to go by, we'll get destroyed 5 - 0.

Are you going on the basis of if the linesman makes another howler and gives city a soft penalty?

To answer the question, we always raise our game against the big teams (annoying, but its just how it is), 1st game of the season at home aswell. After seeing City today theres nothing to suggest we cant do something.

Can't see it really, but it is the 1st home game of the season and the crowd should be loud and up for it.

Also our players tend to care about these big games so we'll probably get a better performance than we did yesterday.

Have to say though, would be abolutely delighted if we manage to get a draw

    I believe we can.
    Game v Hearts first though...
And more time for the team to settle with the new players.
And who has BR got in mind for the "1 or 2 players" he hopes to bring in...maybe that will lift the mood after yesterday.

Atleast they're missing Aguero...Tevez and Dzeko can cause problems though. Hopefully Ladotelli starts and gets sent off.

Similar team that lost to WBA, Its a strong line up that will click soon and will take teams apart, hopefully start with City.
    This for me too.

City looked vulnerable today, also with Aguero likely to be out that's a boost for us.

We need a massive improvement, thing is though if we play to our best ability we could get a result. Ball's in our court, BR needs to execute with his tactics and the team needs to put in a performance. Or the end result will be the same as yesterday.

    Don't think much will change but depends on Thurs performance I suppose. * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
options to use Assaidy for Downing & think jonjo/Hendo could play alongside Allen pushing Stevie G further forward at expense of Downing. 4-1-2-2-1

    Reina

    Coates Skrtel
    Johnson Enrique

    Lucas

    Allen Gerrard

    Suarez Downing

    Borini

Get Carroll on to distract and win the ball from crosses and corners as well as bullying Kompany and Lescott to free up Suarez & Borini.

If the defensive pairing is Carra and Skrtel, we'll be needing Carroll to contest the hoof ball that we'll employ.

realistically its not going to look pretty and we might be on the wrong end of a beating again but still the inner fan inside says for some unknown reason we will win this comfortably

I would rather give Assaidi a shot then Downing. City's defense didn't look to strong vs Southampton. Let him and Suarez turn City inside out. It'll be Downing that gets the start though.

As much as it pains me to say it, if Carra plays I can see us getting slaughtered. Must be Coates for me.

Yeah definitely. Coates is raw, but i feel he would do better against City. Carragher will probably get utterly destroyed if he plays vs City.

Telegragh - Sergio Agüero revealed on Sunday night that the knee injury he suffered during Manchester City’s 3-2 victory against Southampton is not as bad as first feared and he is likely to be out for three to four weeks rather than months.
    Looks like he's out then.

It's difficult to see Rodgers making any changes other than the enforced Carra in for Agger, plus maybe Enrique coming in for Kelly if fit.

I worry for our ability to score goals, but perhaps playing more of a counterattacking style against a team that will come out and try to win the game may suit us. We will have to be almost mistake-free at the back though.

BBC Sport saying the injury isn't as bad as first though, but still maybe 3-4 weeks on the sidelines according to Twitter (I know).

I'd very much like to see Carroll up front with Suarez and Assaidi/Sterling at one point but i don't think it's going to happen

I think Downing can improve and Borini can make an impact too and I want them to succeed but we need to start picking up points immediately and if they really start firing from training or sub appearances then BR could consider rejigging things again but based on yesterday's match I think this formation makes sense:

    • Get's Gerrard away from centre-midfield for his own good
    • Let's Stevie use his superior striking skills - possibly the best finisher at the club at the moment
    • Bring's big Andy in, someone who had shown last season that he can bring goals in with good service
    • Take's pressure off Suarez and puts him more in a creator role
    • Bring someone like Sahin in and that midfield trio looks stunning. Otherwise Hendo, Shelvey or Adam should get a chance to step up.
    • Borini & Downing only dropped to accommodate Gerrard & Carroll up top, I like Borini he seems Maxi-esque but we need to be ruthless. Both will have lesser games to show they deserve to start (e.g Hearts)
