Bumshallacking dished out by the Gunners. Gervinho, Cazorla, Giroud and an Arteta penalty did the job. Tough one awaits at the Hawthorns

A brace from Rosicky keeps the Shield at Arsenal. Next up is Norwich at the Emirates

Norwich are crumbling a little at the wrong time of the season, but did win the reverse fixture 1-0 at Carrow Road. Surely too much to ask for to take the Shield at the Emirates?

    Next if Arsenal hold are:
    -Everton (h)
    -Fulham (a)

If Norwich get up, they'll defend the Shield against:
    -Reading (h)
    -Stoke (a)

    So close...

Norwich led until a disputed 85th minute penalty converted by Arteta. Goals from Giroud and Podolski wrapped it up for the Gunners

    Next up ARSENAL v Everton
The blues have a woeful record at the Emirates, and the Gunners are on a great run, but Everton are resilient so you never know...

Arsenal retain the Shield in a hard-fought game that had Wenger bemoaning the Blues physicality. (Saved him bemoaning something else I guess)
There weren't mny chances, the best fell to Giroud, who has spurned a few in his time at Arsenal this year.

A tough run awaits the Gunners, Fulham away followed by Man United at the Emirates

Fulham 0 ARSENAL 1 - an uninspiring but convincing win for the Gooners, with a Mertesacker goal from a corner. This is turning into a significant World Shield tenure

What chance the R's find some late-season form and relieve Arsenal of the Shield...?

The remaining possible paths for the Shield till season-end are as follows:

    Arsenal:
    •QPR a
    •Wigan h
    •Newcastle a

    QPR
    •Newcastle h
    •Liverpool a

    Wigan
    •A Villa h

    Newcastle
    •Arsenal h

    Highlights are:
6 teams have a chance of putting the Shield in the trophy cabinet over summer
Newcastle have two potential chances, and Arsenal could yet lose it and gain it back
We do have a remote chance of getting a challenge but are reliant on the R's...
QPR could yet take the World Shield down to the championship (but I doubt it)

My favourite to be end-of-season holder - Arsenal

Wigan v Villa would be good, as chances are the winner would be staying up at the other's expense, and also retaining/winning the World Shield. Good end to the season!

A Walcott goal after 20 seconds (yep, 20 seconds), his 20th of the season retains the Shield for Arsenal.

Nice to see the World Shield in England, might stay for a good long time if Arsenal don't get into the CL

Wigan at home will be very tricky to call, come on Wigan

    Good work mate

They can't do it can they? Not at the Emirates? Take the World Shield down to the Championship along with the FA Cup?

I'd love it, they will lose it in the Europa though. But if it was in the Championship it'd have lots of holders.

Just like last season, Wigan can do it

Defence #9 for the Gunners, impressive and way too much for Wigan. They've been unbeaten and impressive since winning at the Allianz way back in mid-March
Goals for Podolski (2), Walcott and Ramsey were enough for them to ease to the win here.

If they avoid defeat at SJP they'll have recorded 10 defences and will keep the Shield over summer...

A tough final challenge for the year for the Gunners, they will move to ten defences if they can avoid defeat, Newcastle will become only the second English club to hold the Shield if they can win.

Arsenal seem to have overachieved in the last couple of months, but I still fancy them to retain here.

A goal from Koscielny set up this away win at SJP to allow Arsenal to rack up their tenth defence of the World Shield, and pack it away in the trophy cabinet for summer. They join Ajax and Bayern as long-term holders of the Shield, each having reached double figures, and will look forward to defending it against all-comers next season.

Out of Interest, will the pre season friendlies count towards the World Shield? Might see some unusual defences over the next few months if so.

Na only competitive games count for the Shield. Carling cup could take the Shield out of the PL though which would be interesting.

    Could be another Bradford

But you are right not to do friendlies, the shield could be in the far east or America then, let's stick to Europe

Here's Arsenal's opening World Shield fixtures as they look to add to their 10 successful defences to date:
    -A Villa (h)
    -Fulham (a)
    -Tottenham (h)

Others who lie in wait should Villa be successful include:
    Liverpool!! and Chelsea

First up on Saturday for the Arse is Villa at the Emirates. I fancy Villa this year but to win away first up might be asking a bit much.
If they do so then Liverpool will challenge for it next time out, but if Arsenal retain, they will take the Shield to Istanbul for a tough game against Fenerbahce.

Being somewhat libertarian the Shield administrators will not ban Fener from holding the Shield if they're good enough even if UEFA take a different stance...

A committed and exciting Villa team took the Shield from a lacklustre and timid Arsenal side, after Arsenal hadled early.
Goals from Benteke (2) and debutant Luna did the trick.

Baptism of fire for the Villans though, their first defence is at Chelsea, followed by a home game v Liverpool

    Well in young Villans
