James Avery - who played Uncle Phil in TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel Air - has died, according to reports.

News of the 65-year-old's death was broken by fellow actor Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Avery's son, Carlton Banks, in the classic 1990s comedy series.

He wrote on his Facebook page: "The world has lost a truly special man. I am very saddened to say that James Avery has passed.

"Even though he played my father on TV, he was a wonderful father figure to me in life. He will be deeply missed."

really saddened by this, Great actor in probably one of the best TV shows of the last 30years.

Never saw the series, was in Germany from 1994. And never watched that much tv even whilst I was in the UK. Nevertheless, Rest In Peace James Avery.
