Interestingly enough, there are no threads on this lad (apart from Campos who did well 2 years back!), yet I'd rate him as easily one of the most impressive right backs out there.

He can attack, defend, press and he's pretty much the all-round modern young full-back. Glen Johnson clearly needs replacing, and at 23 years of age Clyne would be a good pick for the next 5 years.

What are your general thoughts on Nathaniel Clyne?

He makes my wish list so clearly I rate him.

For me he's been the best English RB for the past season, alongside Joel Ward.

He seems a great player to me as well. Considering all the Southampton players we've been linked with, I'm surprised this one hasn't come up more often.

He would be a good option, but I can't see Southampton letting us strip them of most of their best players.

Is there some sort of limit on signing players from another club??

I can't see Southampton letting him go though.

Ha you are going to get flammed for mentioning another Saints player

He was the Southampton player I personally rated the highest until his injury, thought he'd be a great Johnson replacement. I personally tip him to be England's future right full (he's better than Walker and I think Chambers will end up at centre half).

I'd be happy if we went for him in January, though i feel half our fanbase and the Southampton fan base too, would not be.

I'd actually be in favour of sending them someone on loan for a year, you know.

Maybe send them Andre Wisdom or Suso on loan? Or give them Assaidi who Koeman will know from his Dutch days. Soften the blow.

Would be very happy with him, much better and younger than Johnson.

Is there something with us and Southampton players? Its freaking me out, Like there's thousands of players to pick from but we just seem to shop at Southampton

Just wish there was a sale on because there players are pricey!!!

But Clyne, Nope not for me wouldn't want him, Isn't Liverpool calibre.
Liverpool fan for 35 years ... YNWA & Justice for the 96.

He has become one of the best attacking fullbacks in the league when you consider his age.

I wanted him to go to the world cup but he seemed to be under the radar compared with the other ones at Southampton when he's been just as good as them IMO.

I do think that if we were to go for him now we'd be taking the p*** a little bit! Southampton would be furious!

Could be a very good player but would cost probably upwards of 10m now.

It's a shame the management didn't listen to you 2 years ago to be fair, Campos! Would have been an ideal situation to snap him up, send him out on loan and bring him back now to replace Johnson.

Ha, one of the few I picked out right, I think!

He would have been a very decent buy for very little money but in reality there was no way in telling how he would turn out if he was here as we were pretty hopeless at getting the best out of young players until Rodgers came in.

Southampton was a brilliant choice for him - they really know how to develop younger players and I don't know if we were in a position to be spending 2.5m on a player to loan them out. He'd be perfect for us now but we did probably have other priorities at the time. We had a complete first team overload. Would have been a nice buy if we had the money going spare though!

Yeah you can't win 'em all and to be fair that was the same time that Andre Wisdom played 18 games for us, did well in pretty much all the games bar Everton away.

Clyne would be like Steve Finnan on speed. Would love him here.

I'd certainly pick Clyne first over Lallana, Lambert and Lovren.

i d be quite happy with lalana lambert lovren and clyne

southampton played some lovely football and we are cherry picking their best players

have to admit though was thinking for the second half of last season that clyne would be great instead of johnson

Massive fan of the Lambert transfer, 100%.

Lallana, not at all pleased really. Hope to be proved wrong.

Lovren - just don't know. He doesn't seem to be the right player for us, or the right partner for Sakho. I just can't believe there are no more suitable CB's than Lovren.

Clyne would have been a good price (I presume), perfect age, excellent player with that Finnan/Arbeloa-ness to him, replace Glen Johnson who could then be sold if necessary.

I think Lallana has the best shot of really making it TBH

Looks like we're getting Manquillo now, but hopefully we'd still be signing Moreno or another decent LB plus Lovren

Just wanted to highlight Clyne's goal yesterday. Great combo with Tadic.

    That was STUNNING.

We could do a lot worse by bringing Clyne in for Johnson and Schneiderlin for Lucas. That would instantly improve us IMO
