I had a friend who used to sing that song, "We're gonna rock down to electric avenue."

Except she thought it was: We're gonna rock down to electric Alan Noose.

Alan Noose, let him rest in peace

    Thugs and badmen
    Punks and lifers
    ********** up interns
    Pigs and snitches

Rest your weary heads, all is well

You won't be strip-searched, torn up tonight
You won't be cut up, bleeding tonight
You won't be strung out, cold, shaking to your bones
Wishing you were anywhere else but right here
    So dream on

    Thieves and muggers
    Tricks and hustlers
    Cheats and traitors
    Scum and low-lives

Rest your weary heads, all is well

You won't be sad or broken tonight
You won't be squealed on, ripped up tonight
You won't be back-stabbed, double cross, face down
Teeth knocked out, lying in a gutter somewhere
    So dream on

    Freaks and junkies
    Fakes and phonies
    Drunks and cowards
    Manic preachers

Rest your weary heads, all is well

You won't be pushed or messed with tonight
You won't be lied to, ruffed up tonight
You won't be insane, paranoid, obsessed
Aimlessly wandering through the dark night
    So dream on

Genuinely unsure as to whether this is a serious one or a purposefully bad one....

Kill for gain or shoot to maim
But we don't need a reason
The Golden Goose is on the loose
    And never out of season
Some blackened pride still burns inside
    This shell of blooded treason
Here's my gun for a barrel of fun
For the love of living death.

    [Chorus]
The killer's breed or the demon's seed,
The glamor, the fortune, the pain,
Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain,
But don't you pray for my soul anymore.
    Two minutes to midnight
    The hands that threaten doom.
    Two minutes to midnight
To kill the unborn in the womb.

The blind men shout let the creatures out
    We'll show the unbelievers
The napalm screams of human flames
Of a prime time Belsen feast, yeah!
As the reasons for the carnage cut their meat and lick the gravy,
We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies.

    [Chorus]

The body bags and little rags of children torn in two
And the jellied brains of those who remain to put the finger right on you.
As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song,
To the tune of starving millions to make a better kind of gun.

    [Chorus]

    Midnight, all night

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two Minutes To Midnight - Iron Maiden

Some of you may recognise this song from True Detective

Well, won't you lend your lungs to me?
    Mine are collapsin'
Plant my feet and bitterly breathe
    Up the time that's passin'

Breath I'll take and breath I'll give
And pray the day is not poisoned
Stand among the ones that live
    In lonely indecision

Well, fingers walk the darkness down
    Mind is on the midnight
Gather up the gold you've found
    You fool it's only moonlight

If you try to take it home
Your hands will turn to butter
You better leave this dream alone
    Try to find another

    Salvation sat and crossed herself
    Called the devil partner
    Wisdom burned upon a shelf
    Who'll kill the raging cancer

Seal the river at its mouth
    Take the water prisoner
Fill the sky with screams and cries
    Bathe in fiery answers

Well, Jesus was an only son
    And love his only concept
The strangers cry in foreign tongues
    And dirty up the doorstep

And I for one, and you for two
Ain't got the time for outside
Keep your injured looks to you
We'll tell the world that we tried

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace...

Great lyrics obviously.. but possibly inaccurate. I might kill for things other than country.

The lyrics read 'nothing' to kill or die for.

It's possible that it is your interpretation of the lyrics that is inaccurate.

    Before you point the finger
And hope the whole thing dissapears
    Remember empty words will fall
And fall upon the deafest ears

we won't give in without a fight (JFT96)
    foul play without a doubt
No silver lining to be seen
    In this thundercloud
    Oh tha't's not allowed

    In the ideal world
    We'd be free to choose
    But in my real world
You can't bet we're going to lose

    Your money fills their pockets
    Fear fills their tiny minds
At last the world is talking now
This ain't no way to treat mankind
    (IDF)
A sudden blackout stops the show
But doesn't stop the way I am
'Cause all my life I've been oppressed
You're not the first to say I am
    I do all I can

    For an Ideal world
    Where we're free to choose
    But in my real world
You can bet we're going to lose

    We could be free forever
    If they would only change
    But fools never change
    Ohno, no

A peak of blue in the sky
A song of hope, a noble thought
But how long must the people die
Before the guilty ones are caught
Oh won't you spare a thought

    For an Ideal world
    Where we're free to choose
    For an ideal world
And we're no longer born to lose

    In the ideal wordl
    We could start again
    Now in my real world
Let's put an end to suffering
    End suffering

    In the ideal world
    We're now free to choose
We are safe to air our views

    In the ideal wordl
    We could start again
    Now in my real world
It matters not about the coulor of your skin

    Ideal world
    Free to choose
    Ideal world
Oh, there much a man can do

    Ideal world
    Start againideal world
    We're going to start again

    When you're weary, feeling small,
    When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all;
I'm on your side. When times get rough
And friends just can't be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down.

    When you're down and out,
    When you're on the street,
    When evening falls so hard
    I will comfort you.
    I'll take your part.
    When darkness comes
    And pain is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down.

    Sail on silvergirl,
    Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
    See how they shine.
    If you need a friend
    I'm sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will ease your mind.
Once I have your mind, next I will take your soul.

One of my favourites is Kathy's song -

I hear the drizzle of the rain
    Like a memory it falls
    Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls.

And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart lies.

    My mind's distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you're asleep
And kiss you when you start your day.

And as a song I was writing is left undone
I don't know why I spend my time
    Writing songs I can't believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme.

And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.

And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I.

    Her name is Yoshima
She's a black belt in karate
    Working for the City
She has to discipline her body
    Cos she knows that
    Its demanding
    To defeat those evil machines
I know she can beat them

    Oh Yoshima
    They don't believe me
That you won't let those robots defeat me
    Oh Yoshima
    They don't believe me
That you won't let those robots eat me

    Those evil natured robots
    They're programmed to destroy us
She's gotta be strong to fight them
So she's taken lots of vitamins
    Cos she know's that
    It'd be tragic
    If those evil robots win
I know she can beat them

    Oh Yoshima etc etc

Lovely stuff, never enough songs about Japanese super women fighting robots in my opinion

Still sends shivers down my spine when he hits the line " your time has come ( then an ever so slight pause ) to shine "

Grew up listening to this album , over and over , its a work of art . So to speak.

We could just print lyric after lyric from that album mate...of the top of our heads probably.

I am just a poor boy
    Though my story's seldom told
    I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles such are promises
    All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
    And disregards the rest

When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
    In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station running scared
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters
    Where the ragged people go
Looking for the places only they would know

    Lie la lie ...

    Asking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job
    But I get no offers,
Just a come-on from the whores on Seventh Avenue
I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome
    I took some comfort there

    Lie la lie ...

Then I'm laying out my winter clothes
    And wishing I was gone
    Going home
Where the New York City winters aren't bleeding me
    Bleeding me, going home

In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
    And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down
Or cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
    But the fighter still remains

    Lie la lie ...

I bought myself a decent quality second hand Yahama electric piano a few years back.

Definitive Simon & Garfunkel gets played more than anything else - Bridge, Boxer, Homeward Bound, Sound of Silence.

Fair bit of Leonard Cohen too actually...

The whole album is a thing of beauty for sure.

Funnily enough, this Bridge over Troubled Waters doesn't move me as much as The Boxer, which is my favourite S&G song.

Somebody said you got a new friend
Does she love you better than I can?
There's a big black sky over my town
    I know where you're at, I bet she's around

    Yeah, I know it's stupid
I just gotta see it for myself

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ohh
I'm right over here, why can't you see me, ohh
I'm giving it my all, but I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooo
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own

I'm just gonna dance all night
I'm all messed up, I'm so out of line
    Stilettos and broken bottles
    I'm spinning around in circles

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ohh
I'm right over here, why can't you see me, ohh
I'm giving it my all, but I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooo
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own

So far away but still so near
The lights go on, the music dies
But you don't see me standing here
I just came to say goodbye

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ohh
I'm giving it my all, but I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooo
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own
