Out for a month according to Sky

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could be out of action for a month after a scan revealed he had suffered a ‘slight muscle tear’.

Sturridge, who had to quit the England squad ahead of Friday’s Euro qualifier against Lithuania, suffered the injury against Manchester United last Sunday.

The 25-year-old, who has already missed a huge chunk of the season because of injury, is expected to sit out much of April including the trip to the Emirates on April 4 to face Arsenal.

England manager Roy Hodgson said: “I’m disappointed for Daniel because he didn’t really feel that it was any problem.

"When he did the scan he was devastated as he didn’t want to leave. He has a slight tear and you can’t play through that.”

It makes you wonder why we didn't sign a striker in January.

Can we blame Roy for this? I mean probably he got stressed thinking he had to train with him?

No, you can blame Sturridge. He went there thinking it was 'nothing'. He probably knew it was something and went straight to training with England the day after playing against Man U.

I guess at least now we can move on and say that we can't make top 4 because Sturridge is not there.

The guy is a crock, that's the long and short of it, I am afraid. We would be lucky if he manages to play more than 25 games in any season, as a matter of fact, the lucky year was last season.

    I don't think it'll be serious.

What is wrong with the guy? Strange that Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Suarez and Ibrahimovic hardly ever pick up a strain. What do they do differently? I know Ronaldo does loads of muscle work in the gym, is that the answer?

Incorrect. He didn't train with England. he met up with the squad and had the injury already. he was assessed by their medical team and they confirmed he was injured and wouldn't play a part in either game, he hadn't once trained

Is that confirmed? You can still play with a. Slight tear. Wouldn't be shocked if he played next weekend

Not really arsed about what we didn't do in the past. If this latest injury does not convince the committee, the board, JWH, Rodgers and the Anfield cat that we need another top drawer striker in the summer, then we are **********.

“I’m a little bit disappointed for Daniel Sturridge, because when he came to us he didn’t really feel that the slight problem he felt was really any problem at all,” said Hodgson.

“When we did the scan and it turned out that there was a problem he was absolutely devastated because he didn’t want to leave us.

“There was no option because he has a slight tear and you can’t play through that.”

I won't believe it until the club confirm it. Gutted. Always putting himself out for England. Why didn't he withdraw. Not as if he's fully fit. What an idiot.

So he wasn't fully match fit yet, so add in a month lay off, that brings us to the end of April, then to get match fit again brings us to the end of the season .
We may as well just write him off till August now.

You would normally in this case say a good lay off and recovery for the player and he'll be flying for next season but he had the lay off, had a recovery in America and here and still it happens. It's like Andy Carroll

Yea pretty much. Finals hopes of top 4 destroyed there.

didn't he do it against United and it has nothing to do with England? I think they just did the scan to confirm it..

might as well add to that, why did the ding bat bother to pick someone who is obviously nowhere near match fitness for the squad anyway.

I genuinely believed that most our players wouldn't play for England this time round and wouldn't even meet up with the squad.

As for Daniel it is what it is. He is a crock unfortunately and Its clear why he was only 12million. Class but glass springs to mind.

Might be reading too much into it, but that reads like Roy having a little dig at our medical team, i.e. "his club people didn't spot that it was a tear, but we did!" Or maybe Brendan already knew it, but for political reasons agreed to let the England medical team confirm it for themselves? Who knows.

Either way, it's academic now. It sadly looks like we have not yet found a solution to Studge's vulnerability. We absolutely must learn the lessons from last summer this time around and acquire a reliable, quality goal scorer.
