Either Gomez with one or more likely can or Gomez between both with two more defenders but that's an extreme case

Solid as a rock? Really? I guess you missed him pulling Welbeck down in the box about 5 minutes in on Sunday. :FP:

Do you see us signing a CB in January?

No I agree he was solid, plus Trent was magic in the champions league and took ribery completely out of the game at bayern, but Liverpool need the options. We were good against arsenal but scraped a win at crystal palace, I think plopping wants different players to suit different opposition

We should, because we let Lucas go we reduced our cover in that area

Gomez looks weak as a centre back, I think can will get the nod before him.

Reading into this interview, it seems both Klopp and Joe himself view that he will be playing predominantly as (right) fullback this season. Which begs the question - do we have a 4th CB or do we plan patching things up with Can (who's is miserably agitated already) and Gomez (who's in a weaker physical version).
Really don't understand the idea behind all this.

It's got to be Milner, he's our 'putty'

Would think 4th CB is not exactly as much of a concern as Klavan being 3rd...........

It will likely be like Ox or Coutinho; both those will probably find themselves in midfield, but will cover the wings, when needed. Gomez will cover centreback when needed, but he already looks like first team material as a fullback.

I think Gomez will be just like Carra in that he'll start as a fullback and eventually become a centre-back.

Bit risky having 3 n' half CB's to choose from. A weird approach coming from a manager who was an ex-centreback...

More like 2 and several halves, less if you are of the opinion Lovren isn't a very good one!

Wouldn't read too much into it even if it was, very different proposition against bigger guns than U21s

Probably why England do quite well at levels below the senior level

Because we don't currently have a problem defensively at RB? In case you haven't noticed, Clyne is out and indications are it will be for a while (since Lallana, who is out at least another month, is in the CL squad and Clyne isn't).

    milner... why not?

if he can do a job at left back he sure as hell shpould be able to do a job at right back

Which brings us right back around to the question of why Milner hasn't been playing at the back thus far. Given how poor our FB options have played (from a defensive standpoint at the very least) on both sides you would think he'd have at least seen some time there.

it makes perfect sense to me, far more experience than taa or gomez. milner knows how to attack from fullback unlike gomez
    milner matip lovren robertson

seems a solid enough back four

Milner should definitely have played on Saturday as he is a solid defender. His weakness was just being a right footer as a left back, which gave us very little width from wide positions.

I wonder why Robertson isn't getting games yet.

Ironically i think Moreno may have been our best defender at the weekend...how messed up is that?!

I agree that I always felt Milner did well in the big games at LB and he should have probably started, with Gomez at RB. Would have made us far harder to break down. Irrelevant now though.

Personally I hope Gomez plays against Sevilla, with Moreno on the other side. I think they complement each other best, as when Moreno turns into a striker half way through the game, Joe is more than happy to tuck in and turn is into a back 3, which makes it 10 times harder for teams to counter attack us, and makes Moreno far more effective.
