I agree that I always felt Milner did well in the big games at LB and he should have probably started, with Gomez at RB. Would have made us far harder to break down. Irrelevant now though.

Personally I hope Gomez plays against Sevilla, with Moreno on the other side. I think they complement each other best, as when Moreno turns into a striker half way through the game, Joe is more than happy to tuck in and turn is into a back 3, which makes it 10 times harder for teams to counter attack us, and makes Moreno far more effective.
Were you watching the last time Moreno played against Sevilla? I wouldn't have him in the stadium, let alone the squad, for that match. Clearly Klopp felt 4 matches in 12 or so days was too much for Robertson and rested him vs City so he'd be good to go against Sevilla. I'd go Milner & Robertson but it will probably be Gomez instead of Milner.

England have called up the uncapped Tammy Abraham, Joe Gomez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil this month.

Congratulations to the lad. I'm sure the manager has huge hopes for him and the call up will do wonders for his confidence.

I think he'll be a great cb in the near future for us. He's not doing too bad as a rb, and I think it's great experience for him to have when he does eventually move over to play at cb.

truthfully I doubted his ability even in his 'breakthrough' season here. Klopp must be delighted how quickly he's growing

The boy always had ability but he's really growing for us!! Still young, raw but getting better month by month.

He's still never played CB for us but he like only 12 years old or something so there's time on his side.

In my opinion that, despite it turning into the 'Salah show" on Wednesday, Joe Gomez was man of the match. I thought he was outstanding. He deserved a 9/10 rating.

Very impressive. Considering his year long injury, that's quite a comeback. He can only get better.

After such a long lay off he is coming back strong, and quicker then I imagined.

Reads the game well, really impressed by him and would love for him to nail down a starting place as a cb for us in the future.

Shows the terrific attitude he's got with all the hardwork done by him when he was sidelined. He could be a rock in our defence for years the way hes going.

    Let's see.

I'd certainly give Gomez a chance at some point as a CB but he's still very young and has never played there for us. I know it's his position but still.

As for TAA I still think he is more of a midfielder. Could definitely see him being in that defensive midfielder role, or box to box.

But yeah maybe he will be our right back for a few years. Lovely player.

He played there last night, and not for the first time.

Hardly a wealth of experience in the position for us, but more than never.

I thought that was for half an hour when the game was won? Tbh I wasn't really paying attention to the defence on Wednesday.

He's not played there in an important game for more than a handful (if that) of times. But he's part of the defence and that's the important thing, gametime gets him experience. I just want him in the team right now. He's still only 20 and he's getting better every week.

All I want is a bunch of good, pacey, intelligent and robust defenders. We need a unit and hopefully he can be a part of one over the next few years.

Saying all that, he's only in the team right now because Clyne is injured, so he did need to grab these opportunities.

This guy is getting beastly game by game.

I think his physicality and size is what puts him ahead of Trent Alexander Arnold for that RB spot at the moment.

Good experience for him to play at full back, maybe he will become our short term "Azpilicueta" in our back line, although we all know CB is his long term ideal position.

Made some fantastic interceptions today, excellent how Joe organizes himself with the defence foremost. didn't have much space ahead of him in attacking third.

Can we try him at CB and slot Trent in .
If it works we can sell Lovern and buy VVD.

He was brilliant today. It's insane to look at his performance and realise that he's still only 20 years old. So impressive and I hope he continues to improve because he has the potential to be in our defence for the next 10 years.
