I think the point is, why are we in it isnt it? After all we finished 8th.

Why are Chelsea, after all they finished below us.

Do you think either West Ham or Southampton are more likely than us to win the league this year? Or to finish in the top 4?

Do you think either are bigger or better clubs than us?

Last year is last year - there were plenty of valid reasons as to why we came 8th.

We are still far more deserving of a place in the 'big 7' than either of those clubs.

If you look at the bookies top 7 for this season, I'm pretty sure we're in it.

Honestly, people complaining about something like this much genuinely lead some of the saddest lives imaginable.

Yes, we were 5th favourites at the start of the season - above Spurs and Leicester.

    Agreed.

I certainly think Leicester deserve to be in it for sure and even though Southampton an West Ham finished above us they aren't part of the big 7 at this present time. Liverpool in my opinion are the 6th best side at the moment.

Bookies not the best source though, we'd have been in their top 7 last season.

Chelsea would have been odds on for top 4, never mind 7, but didn't make top 9. Leicester were favourites for relegation. Would have got crazy odds on Leicester finishing above Chelsea, Chelsea finishing 3 points clear of Swansea and don't know what the points gap between Leiceste. r and Chelsea was, but the odds on that would have been huge. Considering Leicester were 5,000/1 just to win the league I wonder what odds there would have been on them finishing 10 points clear

Maybe we need a table for mid and bottom sides too then. Then combine them all somehow and put in another table. Call it the Premier League table or something

I love the way that table has some big sides having played zero games.

We may need to wait a wee while for some clarity.

It's the most accurate source there is though.

Yeah I normally wait until the second half of the season before starting this thread.

But as we were already 3 points clear I couldn't resist starting it now.

Liverpool now go 4 points clear at the top, having scored 4 goals past both the winners and the runners up from the PL last season.

Man.City's win over Utd moves them into 2nd place while Utd stay bottom.

A win for Liverpool on Friday would see them open up a 7 point gap on the rest.

Chelsea are the only side yet to score or concede a goal, but this isn't too surprising as they're also the only team yet to play a game.

It's already the top 6 in the current table.

It didn't take long for the cream to rise to the top this year.

aye. city have come on very well, better than i thought but think they will still have hiccups over the season. still think chelsea are most likely. on the whole though i can't see the current top six changing much except among themselves. the clubs beneath just ain't got enough if the rest are awake and for us i think we are waking.

Yeah I agree - those 6 are clearly looking a cut above the rest.

We've got the potential to finish anywhere in the top 6... even 7th.

think that is hindsight talking. i think when we are not at it then yeah anywhere. if we are focused though i think we are a different proposition entirely and in klopp i see a guy that is very focused on what he wants and unlike rodgers will not be deterred. finally i think the outlook is brighter than it has been for awhile.

Don't know about big 7 but I'm focusing on Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, West Ham, Leicester as our most obvious rivals for top 4 right now. United could still fall into the battle and teams like Southampton could still join it, but relative to the fixtures we've had I'm happy enough with our position in the pack right now.

How is it hindsight to suggest we're capable of finishing anywhere in the top 6?

And how can you say 'if we're not at it then yeah anywhere'? Surely if we're 'not at it' then we're not going to come 1st (or 2nd or 3rd for that matter).

You think West Ham have a realistic chance of top 4? Given the quality of the big 6 this year, I can't see it at all.

Of course, but I predicted a second season struggle for Bilic because so many times last season I watched them produce dire football and fluke results. If they carry on the way they've started then, same with Leicester and Southampton, they'll leave themselves a mountain to climb by Christmas.

Yeah it's a huge month for them.

But then, we could already be top by then, and just extend our lead even further

Liverpool are now 7 points clear of the rest having won 10 points comapared to the 6 points won by everyone else combined.

However, they have also played in 4 of the 6 matches taken place in the mini-league so far.

As Liverpool don't play Man.City until New year's eve, it means they're only involved in one of the next 14 matches in the mini-league.

Chelsea and Man.Utd are joint bottom, having both lost their only match 2-1.

Good work Darren I like this thread, just a suggestion I think you should maybe add Everton to this and make it a big 8, Koeman going about his business quietly and effectively down the road

but everton really are not a big club, just as leicester are not and are only there by virtue of doing the impossible last season.

Only if we match others in performances against teams not in the mini league. We probably did well in this mini league last season.

We're building up unreasonable expectations way ahead of time.
