So many cultural references created by one film!

    Loved Stargate too

Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.

    I'm most awfully sorry, mate.

in reviewing my post, I can fully understand that its vituperative tone might well have caused considerable distress to those of a more refined and gentle disposition.

It's a wonder i haven't been banned again, to be honest.

Ha - I was merely quoting a classic line from HAL to DAVE in 2001! I mistook you for a big fan! (and your name is Dave making it irrissitable)

Oh yes, of course. Sorry… it must be the hour (it's 11.30pm) and I'm a bit tired. I missed the nature of the quote*.

I used to have that whole 'I'm sorry, Dave. I can't let you do that.' on the laptop… with the big red lens as the desktop pic.

*I'm just a shameful waste of space, really.

Thats the best line, along with "Just what do you think you are doing DAVE".

    I loved 2001.

I'd read a lot of Arthur C Clarke before it came out, including 'The Sentinel' on which it was based.

They also released the 2001 novel that Kubrick asked Clarke to write, before we went to see the film. As I'd seen reviews that were critical of the whole last act and its supposedly confused meanings (which were quite clearly laid out in the book) I read sections and explained much of it to Mrs Diddler (she's quite dyslexic).

She already knew the basic story, so was grateful that she was 'armed/informed' before seeing it.

The only parts of 2001 that jar with me are the sandwiches in the moon transport, and the nonsense with calling home and the child answering… an awkward conversation that was terribly lit.

Looked quite interesting from the trailer and was planning to watch it, but it's got pretty bad reviews, might give it a miss then.

Last film I saw was Alien Covenant. Meh...

Given there are daily amazing things revealed in science, Alien is basically like a western in space where a fishmongers -leftovers alien thingy runs around screeching and no amount of weaponry can stop it.

Haha - of course not but we had to get in character! I used to do the voice of Hal. My warning note to her was to sing "daisy... Daisy..." - And to further amuse you - I'm her Mum!!

You could call her Davina, as a sub name.

I used to scare my daughter with the voice of Darth Vader… she was just a wee kid when Star Wars came out, and got really frightened when he appeared at the start.

I do the breathing behind her, then grab her and lift her up.

    Me: 'I have you now'

Daughter laughs and squeals and struggles

    Mrs Diddler: 'Dave, release her.'

    Me: 'As you wish.'

    Watched that Annabelle: Creation.

Had zero expectations with it being a horror movie, and a sequel to a poor film. But it was surprisingly decent for that genre of film. Had a some good scares and didn’t over do it with silly CGI.

    6/10.

They tried to be very weird, which I think only works if it fits with the film and the film is excellent. It’s so predictable what’s going to happen so the parts where it is trying to throw you off the scent are awful. I wouldn’t waste money to see it in the pictures, sadly I already have.

War For the Planet of the Apes - good fun, enjoyed it, wasn't much war in it and a couple of implausible plot devices/events (then again which movie doesn't have some) fantastic CGI and Serkis was brilliant as Caesar (as always) - 8/10

    A reasonable/passable bit of sci-fi. 6.75/10
